#1 New York Times bestselling author Joe Posnanski is back with a masterful ode to the game: a countdown of 50 of the most memorable moments in baseball’s history, to make you fall in love with the sport all over again.
Posnanski writes of major moments that created legends, and of forgotten moments almost lost to time. It's Willie Mays’s catch, Babe Ruth’s called shot, and Kirk Gibson’s limping home run; the slickest steals; the biggest bombs; and the most triumphant no-hitters. But these are also moments raw with the humanity of the game, the unheralded heroes, the mesmerizing mistakes drenched in pine tar, and every story, from the immortal to the obscure, is told from a unique perspective. Whether of a real fan who witnessed it, or the pitcher who gave up the home run, the umpire, the coach, the opposing player—these are fresh takes on moments so powerful they almost feel like myth.
Posnanski’s previous book, The Baseball 100, portrayed the heroes and pioneers of the sport, and now, with his trademark wit, encyclopedic knowledge, and acute observations, he gets at the real heart of the game. From nineteenth-century pitchers’ duels to breaking the sport’s color line in the ’40s, all the way to the greatest trick play of the last decade and the slide home that became a meme, Posnanski’s illuminating take allows us to rediscover the sport we love—and thought we knew.
Why We Love Baseball is an epic that ends too soon, a one-of-a-kind love letter to the sport that has us thrilled, torn, inspired, and always wanting more.

Title: Must buy for any true baseball fan
Review: I have bought this book three times now. Once for my father, my son and my cousin. And now that I say that I should probably buy it for my other cousin as well! This is such a fun baseball book to read. Each page is filled with great nuggets of baseball history both recent and ancient! The author is one of the best and can turn a phrase better than most. Many of the moments he talked about had my son and I looking the moments up on YouTube to see the moments ourselves or to learn more. Thatâs how good this book is - it inspires you to want to know more!

Title: Why We Love Baseball
Review: This was a fun books to read. The author included so much interesting trivia, I couldn't wait to read the next chapter. As a Kindle book, I wasn't able to flip to the asterisked footnotes as I read but did read them at the end of the book -definitely worth it. I didn't read this book straight through, but it made for many good days of entertainment. For anyone who loves baseball this is a great read.

Title: Perfect Gift Book!
Review: I bought the book for my baseball loving sisterâs June birthday. After leafing through pages and reading a little here, a little there, I bought a second book as a gift for a dedicated reading friend. He called shortly after getting the book to tell me how delightful and enjoyable he found the book. Poignant and well-written. This book will be my book to give this year. Just ordered a 3rd copy to send as a thank you gift.

Title: Great read!
Review: Of the probably 50 baseball books I have read over my life, this was the most amazing read. Posnanski is the Shelby Foote of sportswriters, the conversational prose heightens the enjoyment of the stories. His command of facts, through exhaustive research and personal experience, provides a sense of being there. The real win for me was conjuring up memories of the multitude of games watched in person, over the radio and television with my grandfather, dad, son and grandsons. Many moments lost in statistics, but not on me.Sorry for being so effusive. Again, thank you.

Title: I Loved This Book
Review: This guy writes like heâs talking right to you. He is a student of the game and he speaks with a knowledge that is deep and wide. I didnât want it to end. I bought a copy for a friend and he loved it too. A perfect gift for the baseball fan in your life. Iâm just sorry he didnât write about Dock Ellisâ no-hitter, but you can read about that somewhere else.
