Title: Old Blue-Eyes
Review: For those of us old enough to have witnessed the entire career of Frankie, from the Bobby-Socksers ot the late 30s up through his later years, this was a serious reliving of his many, many hits. As the teenage idol with the Tommy Dorsey big band and throughout his professional life, he was a class act, and probably the best male popular song stylist of my lifetime. Anyone interested in a story of his life in his songs should really enjoy this, and for those interested in the history of big band, swing, blues and more that was popularized during his life, listen and learn!

Review: You gotta admit that the Chairman in his prime was great. I was too young to ever see him live. I love the big band sound that backs him up. The DVD with Ella Fitzgerald is priceless. She was off-the-charts talented.

Title: Sinatra plus Ella: Terrific!
Review: Contrary to another reviewer, I consider the picture qualityto be quite acceptable. All four specials are excellent, but my favorite is "A Man and His Music+ Ella+Jobim".The show's highlight occurs in the last half with afree-wheeling medley by Frank and Ella. It's almost as goodas Ella's amazing blues medley with Dinah Shore on Dinah'swonderful "Chevy Show" (you can see it on YouTube). And, by the way, someone should get wise and put out a setof Chevy Show highlights..

Review: Despite not the best quality of picture in this DVD (lack of digital technology restoration treatment), these three TV specials from the mid 1960s are an excellent testament to Frank Sinatra, probably the best traditional pop-music entertainer of the 20th century.Three programmes, clocking at about 52 minutes, offer a cross-section of Sinatra's best-known and beloved hits from the Reprise era (and some earlier stuff). Any fan of the top crooner should be absolutely satisfied with all three editions, taking listeners and viewers from full swing to touching ballads, still, Sinatra is always humorous in spoken interludes (there are not too many). The 1965 special features Nancy Sinatra (for obvious reasons), the 1966 is full of Ella Fitzgerald (whom Sinatra admired very much and it shows from his interactions with her, although she may be suffering a bit from stage-fright) and Tom Jobim, the father of bossa nova in the eyes of the pop culture.

Review: Si te gusta Sinatra es un DVD indispensable. La calidad de imagen no es la mejor, pero es comprensible porque es un show antiguo. El sonido, sin embargo es bastante bueno. La parte de Jobim y Ella F. es casi lo mejor.

Review: In the1960`s Frank Sinatra recorded three television specials entitled, "A Man and His Music". A fourth was produced fourteen years later.I have been listening to Sinatra recordings for years, but it is not until you have witnessed him in concert can one appreciate the stage presence and mannerisms, the phrasing and voice control, the interpretation of, and the feeling for a song, unmatched by any other pop singer. The concerts, spread over two DVD`s, are as follows:1965 - Arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins.Sinatra sings his standards, including "I`ve Got You Under My Skin", "I Get a Kick Out of You", and a very nice medley of, " It Was a Very Good Year/ Young At Heart/ The Girl Next Door/ Last Night When We Were Young."1966- Arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins with guest Nancy Sinatra. I`ve never been a great Nancy Sinatra fan, but she acquits herself very well on "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", "On Broadway", and duets with Frank, "Downtown", and "These Boots Were Made For Walkin`".The other highlights include a terrific version of "That`s Life" by Frank, a jazzed up version of "Granada", unusual but effective, and Sinatra doing for Chicago what Bennett did for San Francisco, "My Kind of Town". Every time I hear this I wish I had of lived there.1967- Arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle with guests Ella Fitzgerald and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Some have called this the greatest musical T V special of all time. Highlights include:- Ella singing "Body and Soul". This is the song Coleman Hawkins made famous with his saxophone rendition. Ella`s vocal version equals Coleman`s tenor sax.- Frank and Ella duet, "The Lady is a Tramp".- Sinatra medley with Jobim, including "The Girl From Ipanema".- Sinatra singing "Old Man River". I have seen Robeson and Warfield do this in the two movie versions of "Showboat". Sinatra`s is every bit as emotional.1981- With the Count Basie orchestra. This is Sinatra singing tracks from his Reprise albums. A few standards, a current (at the time) "Something" by George Harrison, and three relative unknowns, "I Loved Her", "Monday Morning Quarterback, and "Say Hello". It may be for this reason that some reviewers have called this the weakest of the concerts, but although the songs are not the greatest, Sinatra singing the phone book would be entertaining. The series winds up with a signature Sinatra performance of the Theme from " New York, NewYork", and a rewritten "Thanks For the Memory".All the concerts are in color, the picture quality good, and the sound is great. For fans of Sinatra (and if you aren't, you should be) this collection is essential.
