The 10-episode event series reveals a fascinating story about the journey to bring this iconic mob drama to the big screen. It was fraught with struggle from the start as actors turned down roles, directors wouldn’t touch it and finding a writer such as novelist Mario Puzo was a fight the producers took on with the studio. All resulting in the most epic and iconic portrayal of the notorious Corleone clan.?

Title: Unexpectedly healing and comforting.
Review: I’ve recently learned that Al Ruddy has died, at age 94. His memoir, which inspired The Offer, shows that sometimes something very unexpected can heal us. As a child, my father (OSS then RCA exec) would leave a copy of The Godfather lying around the house. All the time. He kept reading it and rereading it. Being an intellectually curious 11-year-old, I’d secretly read his copy when he wasn’t home. I’d always thought that Mario Puzo must have been assertive and assured, but The Offer revealed he was unpretentious and vulnerable. Then Al Ruddy connected Puzo with Francis Coppola, and that relationship radiated warmth and humor. Coppola saw The Godfather as a metaphor for American capitalism, inspiring his artistic vision, creating so much magic that I’ve started buying his wonderful wine. The Offer is a strangely comforting series about persistence and commitment to your artistic vision, with courage in the face of adversity, even if you’re dealing with a metaphor for capitalism, whatever form that might take.

Title: High quality production provides a behind the scenes spectacular story on how The Godfather was made
Review: From looking at The Godfather, I have always considered it was a complicated movie to make. It was far more complicated and riskier than I thought. It would take a brilliant and resourceful filmmaking genius like Francis F. Coppola to make this masterpiece ( along with Godfather Part II ), one of the greatest American films of all time. Along with Producer Al Ruddy who was smart enough to dodge all the mafia bullets and was always 3 steps ahead of high-powered Studio and Corporate executives who wanted to take the movie away from him or shut it down, also knew how to work himself out of all complications and ensured Coppola had what he needed to complete the film successfully.

Title: SO GOOD!
Review: I'm over 60 and only just saw Godfather 1 & 2 for the first time this past year. Sadly I'd seen GF 3 when it first came out and that's what kept me away. But now I'm hooked and this series about the making of the original Godfather film is incredible. Lots of interesting inside stories direct from Al Ruddy himself (possibly dramatized for TV) and the acting is pretty great too. Loaded with dvd extras with chapter recaps and more. I don't have Paramount so I bought the set and I'm glad I did. Telling (almost) everyone I know to watch it.

Title: Great story within a story!
Review: If you ever wanted to know what really goes on behind the scenes in nutty Hollywood, here you go! This is such an amazing story and sage of the best movie ever made that was not almost made! The in's and out's of the politics, the money, the egos and the final release of the movie that was The Godfather. This is more or less a historical take on what happened to get The Godfather turned into a movie, the in fighting to complete it and the personal lives of those that lived it. It's a great saga to watch and very entertaining!

Review: I came upon this series by chance and ordered it because I am a big fan of Matthew Goode. It is well done and very interesting. I watched it three times and then of course dug out my copies of Godfather I and II. Acting was excellent and story compelling. Heartily recommend.

Review: If you love the Godfather movies, you should enjoy this series. The backstories of the making of the Godfather and all of the problems they came across before and during filming, makes this series interesting. The actors do a great job and there's a touch of humour throughout.
