Title: Amazing Book filled with knowledge
Review: I purchased this book exactly 1 month ago, and after watching Melissa's instagram feed about writing a review, I'd figure I would do some updated reviews as I complete the guides. If you follow fitgurlmel on instagram, then you'll hear her personality through out the entire book, which is amazing. She's inspiring and motivating and helps you work on your demons FIRST before trying to change your body. I think that's what makes her so motivating because for one she knows the REAL struggles and second she's been there done that and the book is her how-to on weight loss and keep it off. She speaks on her motivation to losing weight, her pregnancy, her busy lifestyle as well as learning to dig deep inside yourself to make these lasting changes. We've all been there, lacking motivation, knowledge, and finding every excuse in the book to not work out or eat clean. So how does the plan work? She teaches you how to calculate your macros, and targeting your calorie intake for YOUR body. This isn't a cookie cutter program, she doesn't tell you numbers, instead she teaches you the basics for your body. In other words, you need to put in some work so you can figure out your personal intake. Which is great, because I believe everyone should know the basics on nutrition. All this is followed by a 6 months work out plan. She guides you week by week with what workouts to do accompanied by sets and reps. Before each week she gives you a sort of pep talk per se, where she motivates you, and guides your nutrition. Whether you need to add calories or reduce calories. All this is to accomplish a long lasting weight loss or weight gain goal. In my case weight loss, in which you may never have to be counting calories ever again.I've been working out regularly for the past 3.5 years, and I've been counting calories ever since, with noticeable changes, losing 30lbs. But I don't look as firm as I want, and I've always been low calories in fear of gaining weight. My hopes with her programs is to increase my caloric intake way much higher and have more muscle development. So far, I'm working my way in to week 3 and I can already start seeing some awesome changes. Her workouts, although simple are challenging. For reviews that say you NEED a gym to do the workouts...although the gym would be required, I have alternatives to do every workout. I've been using resistant bands and dumbbells to do the workouts. If you want to achieve a goal, there shouldn't be a hinderance to getting them done in my opinion. The workouts itself are challenging with or without a gym. Also note, she has a full recipe guide where she has her staple Japanese yam recipe. Although simple it's honestly delicious and it's because of her that I was introduced to this yummy veggie. She also gives you a how-to visual guide to all the workouts in the plan, which is helpful because it has directions on how to properly do each excise.Overall, I'm please to have this affordable way to have her train me haha. It's been worth the purchase, and I can't wait to see the results in a few months.Edit: 8/11/2020After several ups and downs, one week had to take off because of a medical procedure although I stayed consistent with my diet, Iâve seen significant changes in my body in terms of composition. My goal was to lose weight and Iâve lost NOTHING haha but Iâve gained in muscle and tonality. My calories are up 1400kcals to 1500kcals mainly because Iâm scared to move up if Iâm not seeing weight loss but after seeing the pics and moving into the 90 degree portion of the book Iâll be upping my calories :). So far so good. Excited to see changes in the next 8 weeks.

Title: Have not missed a workout yet and I DO NOT go to a gym...
Review: Love this book. If I took away a star, it would be for foul language, but as far as putting the truth in my face regarding food, attitude, mental blockage to a healthy lifestyle and being committed and consistent this is definitely five stars.I do not go to a gym, I do not own a Stairmaster, a treadmill or a stationary bike. I do not have a pull-up bar or a Smith machine. I have Olympic weights, a weight bench, tons of dumbbells, exercise bands. I Google alternatives to the exercises that require equipment that I don't have. Anyone can go outside and run, walk, climb stairs. For all of the reviewers that say a gym is required, it simply isn't true. But if you aren't committed then you will find whatever excuse you can to not workout. If you read her book, you know she started in a tiny apartment doing videos. You find a way to make it happen if you truly want it.Before I started this program, I had already been lifting for five weeks, so I kind of went backward to go forward, but I wanted to start at the beginning. I have to admit that I have struggled with her nutrition plan, as I desire someone to tell me exactly what to eat, and she doesn't do that. I have toyed with my macros and just made good choices. You eat for the body you want. Or, I guess it is more politically correct to say you eat for the health you want, you eat for the energy you want, etc. I do enjoy several of her recipes. This program has been fantastic for me. I have not missed a single day of working out. My overall weight lifting began at the end of March, but I did not begin her program until May. I love it. I am beginning week 16 tomorrow. I cannot wait to see the end result and I am also excited to begin a new program. Currently looking into what will challenge me when this is over. It has given me the incentive to just keep going. I cannot imagine NOT lifting.I have not lost a lot of weight, but I have gained so much muscle tone. Additionally, I have NOT been hugely consistent or diligent with actually trying to lose weight. I want to be healthy, strong, and have energy. I have definitely lost inches. And gained energy. And wowed my husband on a daily basis. These are wins for ME. Not everyone has the same goals. I am currently a size 8.If you are not already driven to workout consistently, if you are not willing to think outside the box to come up with alternatives for equipment you do not have access to, and if you are adamantly opposed to the F-word, don't buy this book. But if you want to be challenged and push yourself farther than you thought possible, if you want to get excited over Bulgarian split squats and hip thrusts then this is for you. I LOVE this program. As an aside, I am not into reality TV and the whole Kim Kardashian connection almost repulsed me enough to not buy the book. But I researched Mel Alcantara and decided that I would not find her guilty by association. Additionally, I am 48 years old, I have 7 children, ages 5 y/o to 22 and I home educate - this is our 16th year. So I don't have a lot of time for frivolities. I work out first thing in the morning, it generally takes about an hour or longer. I usually get up between 5-5:30 a.m. in order to make this happen without disrupting our day. We all make choices and these are my choices.

Title: More than just a fitness book...
Review: I pre-ordered this book on April 18th and have anxiously waited for its arrival. I received it today (May 6th) and the first chapter did not disappoint!!! I love Melissa and have been following her on Instagram and her Fitplan. I have her mini-bands and also ordered her long bands-its safe to say, I'm a little obsessed. The first few pages were amazing and I related to everything she said!! A few of my favorite quotes from the first few pages are: " "Obstacles are just self-doubt masquerading as excuses" "When you start investing in yourself, you give your confidence permission to come alive". That sentence spoke to my heart and soul! How real is that?! But my all time favorite quote so far (and I literally just started reading this book) is "There is a "before" headspace just as much as there is a "before" body". I underlined that sentence so much and highlighted the crap out of it. That is SO REAL!!! What I love about Melissa and the book is that she doesn't just give you a fitness/meal plan to follow, she goes deep and takes a holistic approach and emphasizes the importance of overall well-being: Mind, Body and Soul. I'm only 15 pages in & love it so far. Definitely must read!!!!!

Review: I got this book on kindle and found myself using the recipes so often that it was worth buying the book. I like how she talks about changing your thinking and exactly *how* to do it. Same with nutrition and figuring out nutrition for your unique self. It's true that, for a lot of the exercises, a gym is necessary (e.g. squat rack and bigger weights). Some of the exercises are bodyweight-only or use bands. Most of the dumbbell exercises and lighter bar exercises could be modified to do with bands. I still needed a bit of a kick so am doing her online app and combining those bodyweight workouts and supplementary videos with the book. I really like it - it feels like she's doing the exercises with you.
