The Herdmans plus Halloween have always spelled disaster
Every Halloween, the six Herdman kids steal candy, spray-paint other kids, and take everything that isn't nailed down. And this year promises to be the same, until the Mayor decides to up and cancel Halloween. True, that means there'd be no Herdman trouble to contend with, but that also means no candy, no costumes, and no trick-or-treating! Is it possible that the Herdmans themselves could make what looks like a horrible Halloween into the best one ever?

Title: This is the best kids' book series ever written
Review: We have loved The Best Christmas Pageant Ever for years, and my kids and I listen to it every Christmas season. It's a family tradition that we cherish because it's so darn funny. We laughed when the kids were in elementary school, and we still laugh now that they're in high school. We just discovered the rest of the series and listened eagerly. This book is read by the narrator of the abridge Christmas book, and her gravely voice MAKES the story great. I could listen to this book over and over, and I'm sure I will. So funny in a completely wholesome and kid-friendly way. Highly highly recommend. I'm 43, and I found it as funny as my kids did. Viva the Herdmans.

Title: charming sequel that can be read alone
Review: It's not necessary to have read Robinson's two previous entries about the dreaded Herdman family, but I'd say this one is a bit weaker than the first (Best Christmas Pageant Ever), so read that one if you haven't. This will stand alone fine on its own, however. In this sequel, Halloween has been cancelled because everyone in town dreads the involvement of the Herdman kids, who steal everyone's candy and pull destructive pranks. This year the whole celebration is limited to the school, where everyone can wear costumes -- but NO candy! Only lame "spooky" stuff manned by the parents -- the kids are not at all happy with this -- until weird things start to happen. And hey, where *are* the Herdmans?Lots of fun and another rewarding, twist-y ending, courtesy of the Herdman kids.

Title: Great as always
Review: We love all of Barbara Robinson's books. My family read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever when I was young and I read it to my daughter as soon as she was old enough to listen. This book like her other "Best" books make you laugh out loud at the characters and make you see true human nature. It is not just a children's book by any means. I could pick one up and sit down and read it for a good laugh anytime. Halloween is a favorite holiday in our house which made this one appealing. I would highly recommend any of Barbara Robinson's book and especially "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" and "The Best School Year Ever" as well. We read all of them out loud to the family or on a long ride and it makes that time go by quickly and with a lot of laughter.

Title: No Trick-or-Treating? You Must Be Kidding!
Review: Excellent book about a very special Halloween. Children can easily identify themselves with the characters. Each and every school has one or more trouble children who enjoy themselves in causing trouble for everyone else. This book teaches children that things can change, and that events perceived as tragedy turn out to be quite good actually.I think this book is best for fourth graders and older children.

Title: Fun for Hallowe'en
Review: Bought this to read to my 8 year old grandson over Zoom. We both loved it! We have read two other books by the same author and giggle throughout them. We love the family that always gets into trouble.

Title: ENtertaining to young kids...
Review: This book was a good enough read for before Halloween. The story, while entertaining enough for young kids, will drive any adult crazy. There is no chance a few unruly little kids could ever, EVER cause an entire town to cancel Halloween, it simply wouldn't happen, and with the whole premise of the book based on that one fact, it sort of ruins it, at least for me. My daughter was less bothered by this aspect and thought it was a funny and cool story. So just let them read it themselves, and everything will be fine.

Title: Very funny, I love her books. I wish we had experienced a Halloween party like they did.
Review: I never heard about the Herdmans before, I was working with a fifth grade teacher and the students did a peer book study on the Christmas book. We laughed so much along at the Herdmans, that I had to add them to my must read books.
