Title: Great obstacle avoidance, ever improving cleaning and features
Review: Update#2: The robot continues to improve. Truely no precleaning needed. The cleaning is not as good as our old Neato, but now that the Roomba lets you default to 2 passes its about 90% as good. The electrical contacts on the base tarnish and prevent recharging, fixed with finely sanding the contacts (this fix was recommended automatically in the app.)Bottom line: It gets our hardwood clean enough and only very, very rarely gets stuck. This is our first iRobot after 3 generations of Neato's (Most recently the D7 connected). The cleaning performance of the j7 is FAR inferior to the Neato. Even running the J7 twice, the hard wood floor with lots of chairs and stools is not as clean. However, the J7 is ultimately still an upgrade because we don't have to pick up before running. the robot successfully cleans around socks, shoes, toys and 5 kids worth of debris. We have had it 6 weeks, running it most days, and it has only gotten it's brush stuck once, and been stuck on an obstacle maybe twice-- something that happened with the NEATOs frequently despite precleaning. Other positives: Quiet, easy to schedule, easy to empty bin. Negatives: Seems to transport a bunch of debris to its base and not clean around the base well. Only cleans about 80% as well as our NEATO on hard wood. If the robot gets bumped off the base you have to go into the app to get the robot to charge again. Frequently, the robot won't start a cycle for mysterious reasons-- the robot will say "see the app" and the app will have no information. Some suggestions for the manufacturer. Add a front spinner brush to both sides or else have the robot go around the edge of the room counter clockwise so that the spinner brush consistently cleans edges. (The edges of the room are clean wherever the robot's right side hits them and not clean where it doesn't. Increase suction power. On hard wood, the spinner is too powerful for hard debris (cheerios) and throws the debris across in front of the robot rather than into the main brush. Make the obstacle "review" feature-- to my mind this robots killer feature-- more front and center in the app so the robots can get smarter together faster.Update: Robot now goes around the room edge counterclockwise, cleaning still not as good as Neato, but good enough

Title: Nothing stops it! Never gets stuck and leaves stuff on the floor alone!
Review: I love this robovac!! I’ve had another brand for years and it would get stuck under the furniture or in the closet. It broke all the time, I had to replace the bumper and reboot it often. It would get strings stuck in its wheels. This one ignores paper or clothes on the floor; it never gets stuck; it leaves the cords alone. It keeps going till it runs out of battery, charges itself and then finishes the job. It gives me pictures of things it went around. One small complaint. It doesn’t stop when it’s full and it gets full very fast because I have 3 dogs with lots of hair. I have to pause it and empty it several times when it’s working. I should’ve bought one with a bigger tank. But that just shows how great it is at picking up the dog hair and dirt!

Title: Great vacuum when it works. Useless garbage the other 98% of the time.
Review: This is the 3rd Roomba that I've bought over the last 10 years. I really-really wanted to like it. I would love it except for the fact that the SOFTWARE IS GARBAGE. The thing is completely unusable for me 98% of the time. It won't start... it can't connect... the battery is too low... something else is wrong... blah-blah-blah.There's this useless "spinning circle" on the top of the unit. It's always either flashing, spinning, blinking or something else. What does this mean?? What's it trying to tell me?? Is something wrong??? Who knows!!!How about a simple little $1 LCD display that tells me things like "Charging", "Low Battery", "Error" or something useful. It's super finicky putting it into the charging station. If it's off by 1/4" then it doesn't charge. I have no idea if it is charging or not, if it's in correctly or what the problem is. Every time I want to use it there's an "Error. Something went wrong. Try again." Sorry Roomba but this is NOT helpful at all. When it works I love it. It works great and doesn't smash into my furniture like the older models that I had. But it doesn't work often enough. Every time I try to do something with it I'm unable to connect and there is ZERO indication from the Roomba vacuum itself why it's not working. I'm supposed to use the app to control, run and diagnose this thing. Unfortunately the app VERY RARELY works which makes this useless.I would love to buy one for my daughter who has a dog and could really use this. But I refuse to subject her to such a horrible piece of junk. When it works it works great. But there are too many SOFTWARE PROBLEMS for me to recommend this to anybody.Sorry Roomba. I've been a customer for a long time but this is the worst until from you that I have ever owned.,

Review: I moved into a new apartment with carpets 2 weeks before my Roomba arrived. And I have 2 cats, one is longhair. After the first run in my small living room Roomba left so much debris on the carpet that I felt quite frustrated and intended to return it. However when I opened the bin, I was shocked with the amount of dirt there, Roomba was suffocating, no wonder that is was not able to take in more. I would have thought that it was impossible for all this dirt to be on the floors of a seemingly renovated apartment, and that this dirt might have been inside Roomba when I bought it if I hadn’t looked inside of it beforehand and seen it brand new empty. This pound of dirt came indeed from my carpets. I did 3 more full runs in my small living room and each time the bin was full. Each time Roomba left less and less debris. Now that it looks clean, I’d better run it more often. The manufacturer recommends 5x/week, but I think even 2-3x/week would be fine. Apparently the previous tenant here didn’t vacuum the carpets at all.Compared to my previous Roomba that I bought 10 years ago, j7 is much less noisy, sometimes I don’t even hear it.The new cleaning patterns are much more efficient and cover almost 100% of the floor compared to the previous models with chaotic patterns. The only problem for now is that in order to establish a remote connection with it, it absolutely needs a phone with wifi and not data, and my phone won’t connect to my home wifi. Looks like I need a new phone only to have a remote for Roomba. Also looking forward to see how easy it is to clean it beyond the bin. The cat fur and my hair like to wind onto the vacuum parts. Cleaning the previous Roomba was a mess, with screwdrivers, dirty hair and fine dust everywhere in the bathroom. I’ll see how it goes with j7.Update after 1 month of use: I’m overall happy with the purchase. I suspect though that Roomba has a secret dust-generating device hidden inside of it, otherwise I can’t explain how it manages to gather a pound of dirt every 3 days that I run it. My small apartment just shouldn’t be able to generate this much of dirt, even with 2 cats in it. That’s a mystery!Cleaning the lower surface is relatively easy. I’m happy that the brushes are now completely in rubber and not like previous brushes, they gather considerably less hair.I managed to connect Roomba to the app and now enjoying choosing separate areas of the apartment to clean, and then sending pics of my cats happened to be on the way of Roomba, to iRobot database of obstacles.
