The Not For Tourists Guide to Chicago is a map-based, neighborhood-by-neighborhood dream guide that divides Chi-Town into sixty mapped neighborhoods from Gold Coast and Lincoln Park to Wrigleyville and Lakeview.

Designed to lighten the load of already street-savvy locals, commuters, business travelers, and yes, tourists too, every map is dotted with user-friendly NFT icons that plot the nearest essential services and entertainment locations, while providing important information on things like kid-friendly activities, public transportation, restaurants, bars, and Chicago’s art scene.

Need to find the best deep-dish pizza hideouts around? NFT has you covered. How about a list of the top sports attractions in the famously sports-crazy city? We’ve got that, too. The nearest beach, jazz club, coffee shop, or bookstore—whatever you need—NFT puts it at your fingertips. This book also features:

• A foldout highway map
• Sections on the North Side, Near North Side, Near West Side, the Greater Loop, the South Side, and Greater Chicago
• More than 150 neighborhood and city maps

It’s the only key to the Windy City that Rahm Emanuel can’t give you.

Title: The 2021 Edition Is Out of Date and Inaccurate
Review: I found the 2021 edition of Chicago Not For Tourists at my local library and I’m sad to say this book is not for ANYONE. It is laced with errors. While some are understandable because places do close throughout the year and especially this year due to COVID-19, there are mistakes in this book that are inexcusable. This book is not being fact checked on a yearly basis. Every map has a gray bar with text and those especially are being overlooked during the annual editing process. Even a suburbanite with access to Wikipedia and a website such as Eater Chicago can do a better fact checking job on this book than the publisher. Here is just a sample of what I found that needs to be corrected:Intro letter:The letter mentions the Chicago Cubs haven’t won the World Series (they won in 2016) and that Rahm Emanuel is still mayor (he hasn’t been mayor since 2019). The back cover of the book also mentions Rahm is still the mayor.Map 2:Page 9: Rock N Roll McDonald’s was remodeled into a regular McDonald’s in 2018.Page 12: Karyn’s Closet, Nacional 27, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on Dearborn Terrace 16 are all closed.Page 13: There is no longer a Soupbox on Chicago Ave, Sullivan’s Steakhouse closed in 2018, Yolk on Wells Avenue and Alliance are closed.Map 4:Page 17: Maude’s is closed.Page 18: Blackbird and Bombacigno’s J & C Inn are closed.Page 19: Takumi is now called MyThai, Greektown Music closed in 2017.Map 5:Page 21: Daley Plaza no longer has the Christmas tree ceremony. WJMK changed formats and call letters in 2017.The publisher needs to do a better job of reviewing and revising the content of this guide. I sure hope they take this into account for the 2022 edition. I will definitely be comparing the 2022 edition to the 2021 edition and I hope to see many of the corrections that I pointed out corrected.
