Title: M7 is made of METAL, Quieter/Cooler, OCULINK-PORT(64Gbps), Fast-CPU/GPU, great AUDIO, GEN4-ports
Review: I have a few weeks experience with this GMKtec M7 MiniPC, and want to share my impressions.First, having seen a number of miniPCâs before, this M7 stands out because it has a metal case. All of the other miniPCâs I have seen prior had just plastic cases. Also, the M7 has a nice high quality appearing acrylic like top that looks nice, whereas prior miniPCâs had plastic tops. Another improvement is that instead of either no fan, or a tiny fan, this M7 has a nice substantial fan that is still very quiet, yet moves a lot of air. So, overall, my first impression is wow, a nice âhigh-qualityâ computer here. Lets see how it works? The top comes off with a twist to the left and is as I mentioned a nice acrylic like material. The body being metal, feels nice to the touch also. I happen to like it when the form of the computer pleases as well as the function. It is kind of like art as well as logic. Or, we want both Kirk and Spock, not just one. With the larger fan in the M7, GMKtec has acheived running at maximum Performance, and maximum power (when desired) without the typical negative of excess noise. This is an improvement over other minipcâs. In fact, with all prior devices, I found myself selecting âQUIETâ because the extra noise was not worth the small performance benefit. Here, I can set the M7 to full Performance, run it at maximum power, and hardly even notice unless I get close. Bottom line is, you can increase performance without the prior negative of noise so common in the other miniPCâs I have seen.An unexpected positive feature you may not realize about this M7 is that it has very high quality Audio. I was surprised to see this feature since it is not advertized at all.In fact, if you use the audio jack for analog output, the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) allows for settings as high as Stereo, at 24 Bits per Channel, at 192,000 Cycles per second. This is very high end audio specs. Also, to my ears this analog audio output is very quiet, allowing for a likely high signal to noise ratio which is desirable.I am into really good audio, and I was very pleased to find this. Another little detail is that the Codec GMKtec uses is âRealtek HD Audioâ. not a generic solution. That is nice to see. What this means is that when I listen to Beethovenâs 9th symphony with all its senority and depth, I can hear it so well with full range, and full dynamics, from the M7. In fact the M7âs sound is better then the audio out of my custom big desktop computer, and clearly preferable. Also, you donât even have to buy a microphone, the M7 has a really good sounding internal mic that makes my voice sound good. So, you can use speakers and just talk instead of using a headphone, and if you set it up right, that works. That was another nice bonus, that also was not even advertized. However, if you donât want the microphone active, it is trivial to disable the microphone in Windows settings.)Next, GMKtec made their BIOS easy to get into. Just press the âESCâ key when the M7 boots. In the BIOS, there is not much to do. You can choose to Enable or Disable Secure Boot. (I prefer Disable), I like being able to change things in the BIOS, such as Secure Boot, not all companies allow the user to make changes, so I will give GMKtec credit for allowing user control and trusing their users to know what they are doing.(Which means, donât change things unless you do know what you are doing.)The main setting to consider is the PERFORMANCE setting. You can Choose either: PERFORMANCE, BALANCED, or QUIET. I believe leaving it on BALANCED is likely the best choice, however for testing I extensively tried PERFORMANCE, and with GMKtecâs metal case, and quiet larger fan, you can hardly tell when the fan speeds up when more power is running through the M7. So PERFORMANCE is a valid choice, however, we are talking just a few percent, so for long term use, I will leave mine on BALANCED, knowing I can switch to PERFORMANCE if I felt I really needed it.To find out how much difference it makes between the settings, I did an experiment.I ran an extensive Memory test at each of the three settings and recorded the exact time to completion. Here are the results:Lower is faster of course. (After the time, I put the ratios compared to the fastest time.)PERFORMANCE: 7302 seconds, Ratio to Performance: 1.0000BALANCED: 7321 seconds, Ratio to Performance: 1.0026QUIET: 7410 seconds, Ratio to Performance: 1.0148In other words Balanced is just 0.26% slower then Performance. Put another way, it is 99.74% as fast as Performance. At least in this one test, it shows why I believe leaving it at the default âBALANCEDâ makes the most sense. The M7 uses from 2 Watts when âsleepingâ, to 10 Watts when working but idle, to up to an absolute maximum (when set to PERFORMANCE in BIOS, and all 8 cores are fully utilized) of 95 Watts. I estimate for long term âofficeâ type use, the average power consumption would come out to only 13 to 20 watts. In other words, extremely low power consumption for a lot of computing power of this RYZEN 6850 PROâs 8 Cores, with 16 separate threads running at about 4.7GHz.Inside the M7, the RYZEN 6850 PRO includes a RADEON 680M with 12 Computing Units, 768 Shading Units, 48 Texture Mapping Units, 32 Raster Operation Units, and an operating speed of 2.2GHz. This M7âs GPU is significantly faster then what Intel offers in their miniPCâs.The M7 has another surprise feature which is called an OCULINK PORT.This is a PORT that runs at 64Gbps. That is Freakinâ fast.In fact that is as fast as a GEN4 Internal NVMe Slot. Most big computers so not even have an internal GEN4 NVMe slot unless they are from the last two years or so.This is âcutting edgeâ stuff. In practice, this means with OCULINK, you do not need those big internal slots. You can hook up a little box called an âeGPUâ and run a full size external GPU Videocard to play the latest games at full resolution by using this OCULINK port with an eGPU. For example, you can hook up an eGPU with a 20GB AMD RADEON RX7900XT (which is equivalent to a NVIDIA RTX 4080.) This would then have the M7 replacing the latest full blown tower gaming PCâs. Yes, it will do that. You could also use the OCULINK PORT to hook up more fast storage, or other things. The point is that you have 64Gbps to the M7, in and out with an easy hook up plug in cable. For reference, USB2 is 0.48Gbps, so OCULINK is 130 times FASTER then USB2.In terms of connectivity, the M7 has these additional Ports:Two USB 4 âCâ Ports, each at 20 Gbps. (Power delivery is supported)Two USB 3.2*2 (Superspeed) Ports, each at 10 Gbps. Two USB 2.0 ports, each at 480 Mbps (0.48Gbps.)Two wired Network Ports, each running at 2.5 Gbps. Also the M7 has an HDMI 2.1 port which allows for 8K Video at 60Hz.Then there is a Display port that runs at 4K resolution at 60Hz.Also, as the M7 ships, with no added hardware required, by using the HDMI port, and Display port, and the two USB4-C ports with the ability to support four 4K displays. The M7 includes Wifi, and Bluetooth. Here GMKtec chose a genuine INTEL component, the INTEL AX200NGW device, which occulies a third NVMe port. This INTEL card allows for up to 2.4 Gbps connectivity wirelessly. Also, the Bluetooth GMKtec uses is version 5.2 which has very high quality Audio. Other, lesser spec miniPCâs have version 4.2 which will not sound as good on Bluetooth. I like that these little deals are taken care of because they mean a lot to me.Inside the box, the M7 has 16GB of DDR5 memory running at 4800 MHz, with CAS 40. These are good specs. Here GMKtec is using genuine MICRON memory which is an American company that makes high quality memory chips. I like seeing this.Inside the box, are three NVMe slots. One is for the WiFi-Bluetooth card. The other two, are GENERATION 4 Slots which run at 64Gbps. This is very fast and about as fast as any NVMe drive can even hope to operate at this time, (we are talking up to 8,000 MB per second transfer rates.) (SSDâs which are considered still âfastâ run at 500 MB per second.)This means with two 4TB drives, you could have internally 8TB running at incredible speeds. Think of Photo edition, Movie editing, things like that which need very fast drive access for enormous data sets. You can do that on the M7. And if you wanted another 4TB at that GEN 4 speed you could even use the OCULINK PORT to add it that. The M7 comes ready to go with WINDOWS 11 PRO installed and pre-activated.I tested it with the included Windows 11 Pro, and it runs very fast and overall great as it ships. I happen to love tweaking my PCâs. So, I went a bit âcrazyâ and tried over 10 other operating system versions which are varants of Windows 10 or 11 just to see how hard that is to do, and how fast they might work, and how compatible they would be.The good news is that by going to GMKTECâs website, I could easily download all of the drivers for both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Their website is well organized and easy to navigate. Using their drivers, I was able to install custom operating systems in just minutes. They all were compatible since the drivers were there. Also, the speed was good overall. I did find out something interesting. In prior tests of miniPCâs, I found Windows 10 versions faster then Windows 11 versions. With the M7, the fastest version was a custom OS using Windows 11 Pro. Now, I do not recommend custom OSâs. However, for those who are interested and understand the cons, the fastest version happened to be WinXLite 11 Pro 24H2 version 4.1 or 4.2.To show you what I mean about speed, I am going to show you Aquamark Scores for the M7, and for other computers and GPUâs I have tested it on.(Look for my Video to see the M7 running Aquamark in real time to get a sense of its speed.)AQUAMARK FPSM7 with RYZEN PRO 222.81 FPSINTEL N100 miniPC 91.86 FPSDELL 9020 i7 with INTEL HD4600 91.92 FPSHP8440p with i5 INTEL GPU 24.36 FPSRYZEN 7 7700 with RX6600 GPU 99.66 FPSA4-7300 with HD8570D GPU 103.13 FPSi7-4790 at 4.4GHz with RX6650XT 171.65 FPSi7-4790 at 4.0GHz with GTX970 167.13 FPSThe M7 puts to shame some really fast computers and GPUâs. Pretty surprising. When I roughly estimate the cost to build a computer with the same power as a GMKtec M7, I calculate $720. However, even if I did this, it would not include the OCULINK PORT.The other issue is that the power required would be likely double or triple of what the M7 uses. In short, this is value.Overall, the M7 has an improved design with Metal case, Acrylic like top, larger fan providing better cooling without noise, sips power at likely only 12-20W average consumption, has a modest price, and has impressive expandability with the OCULINK PORT. I call this a big win. I like it.

Title: Good performanc in a small footprint
Review: We were looking for a family gaming PC that was small, low cost, and good enough to run most of today's PC games. This computer arrived the day after we ordered it. It was preinstalled with Win11 and was quickly set up and activated. It was a fresh standard Win11 install. All hardware matched the product page. No viruses, malware, or bloatware detected. The setup process was quick. We plugged it directly into our TV with the provided HDMI cable. We connected a wireless keyboard and mouse and were able to use our existing game controllers (8BitDo, Nintendo Switch, old Google Stadia controller). This computer is much faster than we expected. For gaming, we installed Steam and EPIC. The controllers work great with Steam. There are a ton of free games from both services. The 1TB hard drive allows quite a few games to be installed. This computer was intended for gaming and some light video editing. So far it's been constantly used for gaming, but we plan to test out some video editing tools, which we expect will work well based on gaming performance. All in all, this is a great little computer. We can easily move it between rooms. Some games can be a little laggy when using the highest resolution settings on our 4K UHD TV, but adjusting the resolution down a bit fixes that problem without a noticeable difference in quality. In summary this is a phenomenal computer for the cost and size (portability). Great for gaming and also a nice little Win11 PC.

Title: Checks all of the boxes
Review: I was very excited to receive this computer and it came a couple days ago. Opening the box felt like Christmas to because I was very ready for an upgrade. Included was a mounting bracket which I did not use but it's nice to have for future use. Instead I used a shelf system which I am happy to say supports the lightweight system very well.Despite being lightweight, this system is surprisingly powerful. All of my favorite programs installed and loaded without any issue and in a much more efficient manner than my previous PC. I am a video editor and mild gamer so the DDR5 chips excited me. I could tell an immediate difference in RAM performance. I was vrry happy to see no bloatware installed (refreshing to see).0I use dual televisions as monitors with a media center style setup. Having the option to add a third is not necessary but it is nice to have the option. The video quality is great for a small form and all of my equipment connected seamlessly even with the use of a KVM switch.I am very happy with the early performance and space efficient design. I experienced no connectivity issues, which is very uncommon for me. The only issue that I ran into can be attributed to Microsoft but GMK support was happy to help out and get me rolling quickly.Benchmark testing was solid. The CPU is quick and Cinebench's numbers were quite good especially when compared to more expensive options. I don't see the need to overclock with this system for the time being as I have experienced very little wait time for any processes. The hard drive operates quickly and the LAN is great, faster networking than I currently need but that's a good problem to have.I recommend this system at the price point. It is solid in all categories and support is quick to respond.

Review: Although I checked several Amazon reviews that were all good , I hadnât realised that none were from the UK and the English speaking ones were American . I believed I was buying (via Amazon UK) a LOCALLY sourced and supported device , where in fact it was sourced from China via the USA . This became apparent with the shipping delivery time (weeks) and when the device arrived it had an Asian/American power source cable. Although I bought adapters and got the device working, I couldnât get the sound working through my monitor despite updating drivers and the support advice took 24 hours via Amazon and arrived in the early hours of the morning. I ultimately decided it was too much hassle and decided to send it back which cost >£40 and neither this money nor the cost of the UK cable was NOT refunded. I have subsequently bought a far cheaper device with better support documentation and this mini PCs need monitors with in built speakers or speakers you already have, (learned via YouTube ) .

Review: This a powerful mini PC, I bought it as my main desktop computer. GMKTec's customer service is great, I had a minor issue with the software, contacted the support and they quickly resolved it. For vast majority of people I think it packs more than enough power. Go for it.
