Digitally remastered two CD set containing four albums by the '60s hitmakers. Originally formed by producer Steve Barri and singer songwriter P. F. Sloan, The Grass Roots became a popular hit act in the US for nearly a decade and, to this day, are still gigging in oldies shows These four albums date from 1965, 1967, 1968 and 1969, all recorded for Dunhill Records. This package features the hit 45s 'Where Were You When I Needed You', 'Let's Live For Today', 'Lovin' Things', 'Midnight Confessions' and 'The River Is Wide'.

Title: One of the Greatest 60's Singles Bands Also Made Great Albums
Review: This 2-CD set of the first 4 albums of the Grass Roots (GR) pays tribute to one of the greatest bands of the 1960's. Known mostly for their catchy Top 40 songs, the Grass Roots also put out great albums. P.F. Sloan is the genius and performer along with an original GR lineup on their 1st album. The "Let's Live For Today" album finds the 2nd incarnation of the GR in their folk and psychedelic best. I had this album in 8-track, and all the cuts are classic. These 4 bandmates stay together in tact through the final two albums of this set, "Feelings" and "Lovin Things". Although not as strong as the first two releases, these LP's show that the Grass Roots were much more than a singles band. Their "Leaving It All Behind" disc which followed "Lovin Things" saw a slight lineup change, but it also supported the fact that this band was more than what we heard on Top 40 radio. I highly recommend this much overdue 2-CD set to those who loved the Grass Roots and to those who appreciated both the folk and early popular music that came out of California in the 1960's. I'd be amiss if I didn't praise songwriters and producers P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri for their contributions and work with this phenomenal band.

Title: Surprisingly good LPs from one of America's great '60s / '70s singles bands
Review: Great liner notes that explain a lot of the back-story behind this superior Dunhill hit singles machine of the late '60s / early '70s. Yeah, a singles band, remember them? It was a desperately un-hip thing for a serious band to be -- singles oriented. But for about a half-decade, The Grass Roots churned 'em out regularly and without apology. The four albums that make up this two-disc set prove there was more to the band than 45 rpm top 40 radio hits, and they deserve a much better reputation than they've been saddled with over the years. Like all the best groups of their era, they progressed with each new release, and grew both as writers and interpreters, and as a band. Definitely worth checking out, and highly recommended to fans of '60s / '70s folk- and pop-rock.

Title: So much music still being discovered
Review: Well worth checking out as packed with good songs. Amazon should have more of Grass Roots music re mastered and put out in a professional manner as I notice more inferior bootleg copies creeping in and not available in some cases. Bring up the standard Amazon as there are more albums that are somewhat inferior to what us music guys are used too.

Title: best Collection ever
Review: Ok so it's missing a few tunes from "Golden Grass" but these are the original sounds of the west coast music scene using best musicians and tunes from Phil Sloan and others. Loving Things as an album was only available from japan for so long but is one of the best. From the autumn of 1965 to the spring of 1969 these were great tunes to listen to! Great distractions for turbulent times.

Title: Great Pop
Review: Hearing the first album for the first time. Revisiting some excellent pop songs on the last three albums - many of the non-hits are sensational. Great value

Title: Hard to Find compilation
Review: I love the oldies, and it is hard to find ANY individual Grassroots albums, especially these. Well worth it, for price and sound.

Where Were You When I Needed You"、67年"Let's Live For Today"、68年"Feelings"、69年"Lovin' Things"をそれぞれ2in1化した2枚組ボックスセット。
