What if you could take a vacation to your past?

With her celebrated humor, insight, and heart, beloved New York Times bestseller Emma Straub offers her own twist on traditional time travel tropes and a different kind of love story.

On the eve of her fortieth birthday, Alice’s life isn’t terrible. She likes her job, even if it isn’t exactly the one she expected. She’s happy with her apartment, her romantic status, and her independence, and she adores her lifelong best friend. But her father is ailing, and it feels to her as if something is missing. When she wakes up the next morning, she finds herself back in 1996, reliving her sixteenth birthday. But it isn’t just her adolescent body that shocks her, or seeing her high school crush—it’s her dad, the vital, charming, forty-something version of her father with whom she is reunited. Now armed with a new perspective on her own life and his, some past events take on new meaning. Is there anything that she would change if she could?

Title: a very magical book
Review: This is a very magical book....it will smack you in the face with all of the feels and it you are a fan of time travel, you will be rewarded in spades...I really liked the characters and as usual, i went in without knowing a thing about the book. The surprise first twist was great, but honestly, I felt the book was moving along well before that point. I laughed, I cried. It's a fun read and I'll easily recommend it going forward.

Title: Good not GREAT
Review: I enjoy time travel books as they usually examine themes around altering life possibilities. I find second chances and the possibility of a “do-over” exciting and thought provoking. This book was well-written with an interesting plot that kept me hooked. In some ways, it reminded me a bit of The Midnight Library and a little of Oona Out of Order. The plot sweetly revolves around the relationship between a father and a daughter. This was a nice change from the typical focus on a romantic relationship. There are also some very realistic portrayals of grief…I always appreciate realism when practical. There are a few plot holes that felt annoying rather than mysterious. The beginning was slow and a few parts were Groundhog Day-ish as the main character returns to the same day over and over. Secondly, Alice (main character), while pleasant, is mostly a static character. She's propelled by her love for her father…but not much else. Because she has no discernible goals or dreams for herself, it’s ambiguous how she (or the reader) will know when she's made enough changes to her past to be satisfied in her present. Lastly, aspects of the time travel didn’t make any sense. I know time travel is fictional but I’ve read other books where the time-travel aspect “felt” real. Alice’s travel is constrained to a very narrow timeframe which severely limits the opportunities for meaningful change. My advice: if you read this one, try not to spend too much time thinking about the logistics and just “go with it.”Overall, an entertaining read I recommend to anyone interested in the time travel “trope.”

Title: ok
Review: Very promising premise, ok delivery. Couldve made me cry but didnt. Definitely identified with it but it was missing more details on why suddenly the life she wanted wasnt what she wanted. Glossed over the most important parts. A bit nostalgic, easy to read.

Title: Unique. A fantasy, yet believable.
Review: I didn’t dislike anything. Enjoyed it all….I already recommended it to a friend, while still reading it, and she finished before me. And recommended it to others.I lost my son to cancer about a decade ago. There was just something about this story that connected me. Thank you.

Title: Thought-Provoking - Fun Time Travel
Review: "Once you had proof of the sudden cruelty of life, how could you ever relax? How could you just let things happen?".This quote from This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub REALLY resonated with me. Wow. I spend a LOT of time worrying about things in every day life, even though I know from a rational standpoint that worrying does nothing to help a situation. That being said, once you know about all the things that can go wrong in any given situation, how do you avoid the worry?.Now, on to the review....Time travel books are my favorite. The Chronicles of St Mary's, Outlander, Oona Out of Order... just name to name a few - these books are my jam! This particular book delves into all the different time travel stories we are familiar with and how there are multiple ways to "time travel" within fiction. It kinda makes my head hurt, but that's also why I love exploring the idea of time travel; it is endlessly thought-provoking. When you alter the past, does it affect your future? Are there multiple lines of time (like in Dark Matter by Blake Crouch)? Can you drastically affect the future with one simple action (like in 11/22/63 by Stephen King)? I enjoyed this element in this novel, but I also felt like there were a few plot holes and things about the actual time travel that didn't really make sense. My advice to the reader: just go with it. You'll enjoy the book a lot more if you don't spend too much time trying to figure it out..Another thing I really loved about this book: the main focus of the plot is on the father/daughter relationship. Alice and Leonard's relationship really tugged at my heartstrings. Being very close to my own dad, I felt I could really relate to what Alice went through seeing her dad age. Additionally, I think anyone would would take advantage of the ability to go back in time to see a loved one happy and healthy and in their prime. The emotion that Straub plants throughout the novel is subtle and really very beautiful..Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I recommend for a reader who wants a more emotional, literary read and loves time travel!

Title: So good!
Review: I bought this book and put it off for a while - generally time travel isn’t my jam, and Alice’s father dying… with a sick mom right now, that felt too close to home. I finally decided to pick it up and it was a fun little adventure. It wasn’t nearly as sad as I thought it would be, until it was, but even in those moments, there was so much to contemplate (at least for me, many things contained in the pages of this book had me contemplating the lines IRL). I loved it. If you want a fun story with serious undertones, give it a whirl.

Review: The plot of book and the message the author was trying to get across was sweet and a good reminder that you can’t go back. But there was no hook to it and it felt like it dragged on

Review: First I wasn’t sure if the main character was my cupboard tea. After some time as the story picks up she really grew on me. The relationship with her dad, her friends and herself was really relatable to me and was understandable.Sure - I could image a few things that would have made the plot mir interesting but in the end that was not the Point. She is finding out things and wants time with her dad. Time is sacred and a commodity at the same time.I was devastated when the book was over.I could have stayed there for weeks longer.Thank you for the book, dear author.
