Twenty years after their college graduation, four Radcliffe girls return to their Harvard class reunion with mixed emotions and curiosity. It is the first time they have met since their hopeful student years, when each of them had wonderful dreams of becoming wives, mothers, and successful career women. But much has changed since the fifties, and the former classmates’ lives have been altered by events none of them could have foreseen. Humorous, heartwarming, often poignant and nostalgic, Class Reunion captures the spirit of the fifties brilliantly in contrast to the changing world the four girls have embraced, often with straightforward and pithy commentary on the social conventions of the past.

Title: CHEERS FOR RONA JAFFE'S "CLASS REUNION"
Review: I'm from Boston, but even I never knew what intrigue Harvard and Radcliffe hold, and what it takes to keep up with the fast-paced world of intelligencia! Fast-paced read, sometimes funny and gossipy, sometimes tearful, but always interesting and intense....what more do you want in a book? Also check out the sequel "After The Reunion." Rona Jaffe does it all over again!

Title: Fun Read
Review: Class Reunion was written in 1979 and is probably seen as old fashioned by todays reader. The basic story is still good with well developed characters. It's the story of four young women going off to Radcliff to get an education and find a husband. It begins at their twentieth reunion and segues back into their lives as they head off to college. The reader must remember that 1959 is a lifetime away from the freedom of life today. In 1959 it was perfectly reasonable to have a dress code forbidding pants being worn to classes. The students accepted a curfew on weeknights as well as weekends. They also knew they would be punished for breaking the dress code or curfew. Today those rules would be ignored or protested. If the reader can overlook that disparity, they will find good character studies of how women (and men) were expected to conform to the mores of their time and how conforming affected lives. I did enjoy the book and am thankful I have only vague memories of how life was at that time.It hou

Title: Women's Fiction At Its Best
Review: If you're looking for a fast paced wonderful women's book, this is it! I believe I read this too many years ago to count, and I enjoyed it then. And I fell right back in love with it again this time. It's fun to consider what happened to all those Radcliff/Harvard graduates from the 1950s, those women who faced a world where marriage was considered the only real job for women, no matter how educated. So step back in time and have a blast as you delve into one of Rona Jaffe's best novels.

Title: Well Worth the.MMooney and Your Time
Review: This book is an excellent cultural history lesson about those who came of age in the 50s when the economy was booming, women stayed home and everybody stayed married only to find the 70s broke the promises their childhoods made. And it's a lesson taught in an easy to read book with diverse and interesting characters.

Title: Improbable relationships rendered compassionately
Review: It was recommended to me as an "academic" novel, i.e. one set on a college or university campus. It is not an academic novel in the usual sense. It's more of a "chick" novel, if there is such a genre. But that is not meant to be a criticism. It deals intelligently with some major social issues, but I don't wish here to be a spoiler, and is nicely spiced with enough well turned phrases and plot surprises to keep one's interest, at least mine.

Title: I Loved It!
Review: I am a fan of Rona Jaffe's works and this book was no disappointment. It was amazing to read of the standards society held for women, men, and the roles each were expected to play from the 1950's through to the 1970's and to compare them with the societal norms we hold presently. I must, however, acknowledge that I understand that it was written from the view of Ms. Jaffe who was heralded to be a forward-thinker in her time hence the tilt of her characters leaning towards feministic stances. My takeaway? This book would be perfect for a Sociology class or one in Women's Lit.

Title: Engaging, memorable read
Review: Really enjoyed this. This is another novel where Jaffe follows the lives of four women, this time over the course of over twenty years, from their college years to their twentieth class reunion. I wasn't sure how she'd pull it off, but she did. I took one star off because I was less excited about the narratives of two of the women.

Review: Loved this book - maybe because I am a fan of stories that feature an American campus and students. It is light but not silly chick lit. Good characters and events that you could see coming and found yourself waiting for the reactions of those involved. Well written.

Review: The book starts out quite nicely and promising, but gets very difficult about half way through. It seems all women are practically hysterical and over emotional and only the men are capable of rational thought. This made it unpleasant and rather unrealistic. Towards the end it gets better, but it doesnât lift itself unto a more enjoyable read. Even when looking into the time it was written which might excuse some of the sexist principles, it doesnât hit the right spot. Iâm not sorry I bought it, but I wouldnât recommend it either.

Review: Disappointed with the style of writing and storyline. In my opinion it reads as a very dated novel, although was probably cutting edge when published. There's lots of 'telling' and stilted, unnatural dialogue.
