Title: "Stoned" in The Big Easy
Review: I was a fan of the early Stones, but my interest in them cooled after "Let It Bleed". No reflection on them really; they changed, the times changed, and I changed, and moved to New Orleans - a radical relocation. But I always enjoyed hearing their hits. Recently, when I realized that I did not have "Angie" on CD (Thanks, David!), I grabbed this collection REAL quick. I find it to be very good, through and through. There are the really great songs that I remember, like "Brown Sugar", "It's Only Rock 'N Roll", "Tumbling Dice", "Wild Horses" and "B*tch". Then there are those that I remember, foggily but fondly, as being part of the soundtrack of my life, like "Start Me Up", "Miss You", "Hot Stuff", "Emotional Rescue" and "Waiting On A Friend". And finally, there are those that I barely remember, such as "Fool To Cry", "Mixed Emotions", "Undercover Of The Night" and "Rock And A Hard Place". I like them all, even "Harlem Shuffle", which I used to dislike. The remastered sound is excellent. And I can tell you for sure that all of the tracks sound sharper now than they ever did in the substance-abusing days and nights passed in French Quarter bars. So, if you need the same memory gap filled in that I did, here's a good way to do it.

Title: Good second best of collection from 1971-1993
Review: The Stones, ubiquitous, part of the rock and roll landscape for so very long, and still a potent live act have in the past been a band I got my fill of on the radio. Not that I didn't like some of their stuff, but I was missing out on their role as true torch bearers of real rock and roll music. As I reviewed in the first "Very Best of The Rolling Stones" edition from 1964 to 1971 it took my own expanding love of great gritty blues music and Muddy Waters in particular to understand where the Stones were coming from. Never a flashy band, they nonetheless wrote timeless classics and didn't rely on a lot of gimmickry, like a hot stuff guitarist, although Mick Taylor was great for the few years he was with them, but a solid beat, good hooks and plenty of sass that bands like Aerosmith would copy and mix with The Yardbirds to make their own great music. "Jump Back" is a good representation of their music up through 1993, but a few faults are worth mentioning. First, the exclusion of two of their best tunes, "Hang Fire" and "Shattered" could have easily replaced the repeated "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses", which already appear on the first greatest hits CD. Especially "Wild Horses", a country fried ditty that goes on too long and to this reviewer is not up to par with other great tracks here like "Miss You", "Angie", "Mixed Emotions", "Emotional Rescue" and "Bitch". For that this particular collection gets docked a star. Otherwise, those who prefer the more familiar stuff and may not be ready to delve into the Stone's catalogue will find much to enjoy here. In this day and age with so much terrible pop and Top 40 the rock and roll of the Stones is a great reminder why rock and roll is such great music in the first place. I like it. A lot.

Title: Low price for a great album!
Review: When I saw that Amazon had this album priced at $2.99 I was wondering what was wrong with it. The album cover is pretty lame and I really didn't know of the existence of this album. The following comes from Wikipedia:Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones is the sixth official compilation album by The Rolling Stones and was initially released worldwide, except in North America, in 1993. The North American release came on 24 August 2004.The first Rolling Stones compilation packaged in the Compact Disc era, Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones stretches from 1971's Sticky Fingers to then-most recent studio album Steel Wheels in 1989.The very first release under their contract with Virgin Records in November 1993 (while Voodoo Lounge was being recorded), Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones reached #16 in the UK and became an enduring seller. Despite its very belated release in the US in 2004, it managed to peak at #30 and go platinum. In 2009 Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones was remastered and reissued by Universal Music. As this MP3 compilation shows a release date of August 18, 2009 (which is the same date as the latest version CD that Amazon is selling) I would believe that this is the latest remaster as it sounds great. It is an exceptional value for the price that Amazon is charging for it at the present time.
