Embrya, which was originally released in 1998, reached #2 on Billboard"&"rsquo;s Top R"&"amp;B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #3 on the Billboard 200 and went Certified platinum. It also garnered Maxwell a GRAMMY Award nomination for best R"&"amp;B album."&"nbsp;"&"nbsp; The album remains an integral chapter in Maxwell"&"rsquo;s career canon. He switched up from the jazzier leanings of Urban Hang Suite to stronger basslines, lush strings, electronic beats and more pulsating beats and grooves versus melodies"&"mdash;with Hawaiian guitar riffs and Latin accents thrown in for good measure. And whereas the retro-souled Suite"&"rsquo;s concept revolved around romance, Embrya takes the musical discussion to the next level: the gestation of love and spirituality.

Title: Love EVERY Maxwell ALBUM (funkability)
Review: Like every Maxwell album, it takes me a little while to get where he's trying to take me. But once I'm there, I usually love almost everything that he's done, and listen to it for ages, over and over again, and this album is no exception to that rule. This album has become my all time favorite Maxwell album with its hypnotic blend of soul capturing, foot tapping vibes. I can honestly say that the tracks that I live for on this album are truly to numerous to mention. IMHO, the only song that I believe feels a little out of place was "Know these things" since it seems to not fully match the power and sultry complexity of the other songs. Granted, you might also say the same for "Embrya" and "Gestation", which are the last and first tracks, respectively. But just like a good book, there's always a little something new to discover in a Maxwell album, so you just have to decide if you're going to take the plunge, or not. But for me, his originality and not entirely mainstream sound and funkability is why I will always have his music, in one way or another, nearby. Hell, truth be told, I'm still listening to a number of jams from his first album! Once you take the time to enjoy and bond with his music, I think that you'll agree, his music will always provide you with a little extra "Sumthin' Sumthin'". ;o)

Title: Replacing Old CD
Review: I'm a huge Maxwell fan and had to order a new CD to replace my old Embrya. I've been playing it for years and wore it out years ago. I still played it but would try skipping the damaged parts. I love every song on this CD. It's probably my favorite and that's why I'd worn it out. Hope to get it autographed one day....Love him!

Title: I can listen to the whole thing repeatedly!
Review: This is one of those smooth albums that you can listen to from start to finish. Each song is pleasing to the ear. With a lot of other artists, they'll have a good track here and there. Like for instance, you pop in their cd and go straight to track #4 or #8. With Embrya, I could pop it in and just settle in for a good ride with the top down.

Review: I don't know much about Maxwell. Just that he seems to be this cool character who struts his stuff in his videos. So when I got hold of a copy of this album I was interested to see what it could produce. And I was very pleased at the outcome. Its a fantastic album and one which I love chilling out too.Track 1Ever Wanting To Want You To WantThe bass kicks in here big style. Its got such a funked beat and this opening track was the track which sold the album too me.Its such a cool song and one of my favourites.Maxwell vocally is superb with some real sexy lyrics.Track 2I'm You: You Are Me and We Are YouAnother heavy bassed track. The funky feel keeps flowing, but this song is different.Maxwell sings the first verse in Spanish. Spanish is a sexy language and it is fitting that Maxwell delievers the first verse this way. Top StuffTrack 3Luxury: CocoureThis song was a single and I vaugly remembered it. Its such a good track. Its Lyrically better than the previous two (not taking anything away from them though)Another Maxwell cool trackTrack 4Drowndeep: HulaThis is more of a ballad. Its a beautiful track, and one which when I heard it, I just stopped doing anything and listened to the beautiful words and the amazing voice Maxwell has.Track 5Matrimony: Maybe YouThe most upbeat song on this set. Its such a funky groove. Once again Lyrically Maxwell is so on form. This song has a great little guitar rift which really enhances the track.Track 6Arroz Con PolloThis is an instrumental which has mixed from Track 5. When I first heard it, I hadn't noticed we were into another track as I thought that it was just playing on from Track 5. Its funky, its a bit of an interlude.Track 7Know These Things: Shouldn't YouHis voice is just amazing here. Its another ballad type track, with more beautiful lyrics. Hes such a cool customer.Track 8Submerge: Till we become the SunOne of the albums big highlights. Its a track which I love. Everything is right about it. Lyrics, vocals and music.Track 9Gravity - Push To PullProbably the weakest track the album has to offer. But to be honest its hard to fault any of the tracks. This is very good, but I just think musically and lyrically it lacks what the others do so well.Track 10.EachhoureachsecondeachminuteeachdayBit of mouthful is the title. But the song itself is another top draw effort. Cool and realaxed is the tone. It works.Track 11EmbryaEr.. not really a track. Not really an instrumental either! Just a fusion of a few strange noises!Interesting though!OverallExcellent.Maxwell is a real cool performer. There are many great Nu-Soul artists out there (Musiq, Jaheim, Joe,) and Maxwell is up there with the best of them. He is lyrically better than most though and this album is testement to his talents.
