Title: Simple and delicious recipes using plant-based, whole foods
Review: I discovered Fresh restaurant while on a business trip in Toronto, and upon returning home I immediately purchased both Fresh at Home and reFresh. They are now both my go-to-books for quick, delicious meals in minutes. They are both set up with similar formats -- soups, salads, rice bowls, noodle bowls, sandwiches/wraps, dressings, sauces, marinades, brunch, fresh juice and blended drinks. There are only a few desserts featured in each book, but I think there are a ton of vegan dessert books on the market if that's what you want. These books are for main courses and juices to sustain you and your family.I have found a few staple recipes in Fresh at Home such as the Adzuki Bean Stew, Gospel Rice Bowl, and Wild Ginger Dressing that are not available in the reFresh book. Other yummy favorites such as Creamy Caesar dressing and Tofu scramble are repeated in both books. reFresh does have sections on veggie burgers and smoothies, so they are both great additions to have although I haven't tried the burger recipes yet. The marinades for tempeh and tofu dishes are excellent. Fresh at Home offers more noodle bowl recipes than reFresh, and they are so delicious, fulfilling, and super easy to make that I no longer feel the need to make frequent visits to the restaurant chain that specializes in noodles. Depending upon your preferences you may want one book vs. the other. However, if you can get both Fresh and reFresh, I think they are both excellent books to have in your veg cooking collection. While there is some slight overlap in recipes, I think there are enough variances to warrant having both books in my personal collection.reFresh has color pictures which is nice to have in a cookbook, while Fresh at Home doesn't have any pictures of the recipes featured throughout the book but the recipes are easy to follow and quick to make. Instructions are so clear to follow that I've never had to stop and say, what should the final dish look like...geez, I wish I had a picture. With the exception of polenta, I don't think it's taken me longer than 20-30 minutes to pull together any of the recipes in this book. Finally, what I like best is the recipes are totally reliant on whole, plant-based foods vs. a lot of processed faux meats and faux cheese. Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of seitan or mock meat and Teese or Daiya on occasion, but for everyday meals I prefer less-processed, simple foods. With a few exceptions, most of the ingredients are available in a well-stocked grocery store. However, I have had to omit a speciality ingredient in a recipe or two because I wasn't willing to make a special trip to the store, and the recipes stood up very well. While I'd imagine the specialty ingredient would have added another layer of complexity to the overall dish, my family and I enjoyed the finished dishes all the same and no one felt like anything was missing.I don't juice nearly as much as I'd like, but the juice recipes in reFresh appeal to me more so than the ones in Fresh at Home and there appear to be far more juice recipes in reFresh. I especially enjoy Immune Boost.Fresh at Home and reFresh are both excellent books to have in a vegan's or omnivore's cookbook collection. They both offer hearty, delicious and healthy meal options.

Title: mix match cooking
Review: My husband is vegetarian (not vegan) and I eat fish/seafood. I'm always looking for interesting options to add to the standard items I make for dinner. I have many of the vegetarian cookbooks but some of them are more complicated that I'd like or simply don't sound very good. Pros: There are some sauces/fillings that can be used multiple ways. I made the Curried Chickpea filling last night and used it over brown basmati rice along with the peanut sauce and Coconut Curry Sauce. The filling and sauces were easy to make so I made them all (although it was a lot of dishes to wash). Tonight, I made the Spelt Flour Dosa recipe (my first attempt at dosa) and filled it with the same Chickpea filling, Crispy Tofu Cubes (coated in yeast & wheat germ) and Coconut Curry Sauce. My husband used some of the Garbanzo filling in a tortilla wrap for lunch. I'm planning to make the Thai Noodles sometime in the future. In general, the ingredients are nutrient rich and there is minimal oil involved in the preparations. Cons: 70 of the 190 pages of recipes are juice and smoothie blends. Some of them are unique and interesting, but many are too simple to be called a recipe. I suppose it is to be expected when embarking on vegan cooking, but there are a few specialty ingredients to buy to make some of the recipes - spelt flour, nutritional yeast flakes, carrot juice, tamari, etc. I wish the recipes included nutritional information, or at least mentioned the nutritional benefits of the ingredients. Overall, this is one of my 100+ cookbooks that I actually use. Another favorite is Everyday Greens by Annie Somerville.

Title: Beautiful Book, and it's Useful
Review: I love this cook book, it's beautifully made, the pictures are excellent. The recipes aren't so bad either. I love the recipes for the vegetable and fruit juices, I don't have a juicer, but I had been weighing the pro's and con's of getting one and this book tipped me in the right direction.

Title: This book is Absolute Bargain!
Review: I can't believe they don't charge more for this book! This year I have purchased about 6 vegetarian/vegan cookbooks that had 30+ rave reviews prior to this one but this one beats them all--- hands-down! I have so far tried 3 out of the numerous recipes and they have been consistent and wonderfully delicious! I really likes how they don't focus a lot on mock-meat or soy-based products but instead mix it up with seeds, nuts, spices, and textures. Proof of true inginuinity in the chef rather than that "remake vegan" mantra like so many other books fall prey to. The recipes in this book reflect fresh food that tastes good. The pages are full of modern profiles with rather easily accessible ingredients (I live in the suburbs 1 hour from nearest Whole Foods or like store but there is a Walmart and a tiny asian market in my town which suits most pages in this book and I naturally have a well stocked pantry with diverse grains). Food is colorful and fresh tasting and the pictures look inviting and, well, my dish looked exactly like the picture which was cool! Buy it, you won't regret it!

Title: Have to really create your own recipes
Review: Not what I expected, there are no formal recipes other than a few basic recipes you use over and over in other ways. Lovely book to look at but not added value.

Review: This is a great cookbook. If you like glossy cookbooks with lots of tantalizing pictures, this is one for you. Recipes are healthy and relatively simple. Some of them take some time to put together but the steps involved are not complicated. Ingredients are common and easy to find.YUM!Also try these books: RAWvolution and Vegan with a Vengeance

Review: One of the best cookbooks ever. I’ve been making recipes from this book for over a decade. Meat lovers really love the Ninja Bowl and the bowl with Thai Peanut sauce.

Review: Beautiful pages filled with your favourite fresh recipes, even those that sometimes rotate on-and-off the menu! Great sauces, soups, apps, and juices!! As another reviewer mentioned already, my partner and I can't wait to make the veggie burger recipe because we remember loving it tremendously at their restaurants. We love this franchise and only wish they could set up in other parts of Canada, but at least they have made this book available for us to create their dishes at home in long anticipation of another restaurant to open...or at least one like theirs! We also started looking at juicers more seriously after buying this book as there are great tips and recommendations on consumer juicers and lots of great tips on technique as well!!If you have ever experienced the pleasure of food in either of the three Fresh locations in Toronto, than you must get this book!Only con is that completion time on some recipes may seem a bit deceiving (since it is not actually stated at the beginning) and a few recipes require the combination of another (e.g., sauce) to complete it.

Review: If you enjoy the restaurant, I found this book to have the most accessible recipes. Unfortunately, the portions of the recipes are restaurant size, mostly. Take note of the portions prior to embarking on a recipe in case you need to scale back.

Customers say

Customers find the recipes in the book great, delicious, and excellent. They also appreciate the inviting pictures. Opinions are mixed on the ease of making, with some finding the recipes super easy to follow, while others say they're too simple to be considered a recipe.
