Title: lightweight and powerful
Review: This is my second purchase because I have many Makita batteries and will keep one for the back and one for the front yard. It has two power settings and the string lasts a long time and is easy to refill. (found a you tube video). I love the length and it is easy to handle. I have other Makita tools and love them all.

Title: makita lives up to the name
Review: I will compare this unit to standard corded trimmer from a box store because this is what most people want... trim my grass yard where the mower didn't get and a few weeds if needed. The other group of people want to clear land and would do better with a gas unit. Box store brand likely be less expensive, boast of features like, a wide safety guard, adjustable handle and hopefully cutting cord can be replaced after one season of beating the activation button on the ground as described by maker. typically the box store unit will work-for a few seasons then you wish for metal vice plastic parts and off the shelf replacement parts. This unit is the simple upgrade The unit is lighter weight, good metal construction, bolted, smaller guard, easier storage, typical well constructed active head. Power is nearly the same as corded using two lights and will cut most as such; unit will trim grass just fine with power given with one light selected. Battery efficiency is excellent. I'm inclined to give this unit 4 stars as an effective tool compared to any corded or battery weed/wacker trimmer because when you pull the trigger it doesn't scare the dog or want to take off to the moon like most wackers. For this review I give 5 stars because its advertised as a smaller 18v unit... and it dominates this category. If i wanted to put solid gator like plastic blades on it to chomp god knows what I would get the 40v or a gas option. Unit is wonderful quality for a nice yard that needs a little trimming. Makita lives up to the name.

Title: Makita power for the win!
Review: This thing is lightweight and powers thru thick grass like a knife thru butter. I love it. My other Makita trimmer still spins as fast but looses it's steam very very quickly and hardly cuts anything not to mention it feels twice as heavy and it has a longer aluminum shaft which makes it cumbersome and tiring. Decided to give this new one a try and I am not disappointed. Makita power and quality. It does chew thru my 5ah batteries though and warms them up nice and toasty but I like the power. If you need a trimmer and already rep team Makita, you will not be disappointed with this model. An adjustable length shaft assembly would make it perfect for me. Makita, please include the shoulder strap with the tool only option.

Title: Does what a string trimmer is supposed to do
Review: I chose this string trimmer because I have had great success with all of Makita's power tools and already own several of their 18 volt batteries. This trimmer does not disappoint. It works like a string trimmer should for grass and edging which is all I use it for. I don't have any brush or thick weeds but I would guess this trimmer would handle most chores short of branches.

Title: Very nice
Review: Fit nicely into my stable of Makita power tools. Like others, I think the guard could be better designed, but it has not been an issue so far and I use it frequently in gravel drives. Not much else to say other than it meets the high quality standards of Makita and it lasts a long time on the Makita batteries.
