Title: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Clear reception even inside my 1/4" thick-walled, plate steel tornado shelter.
Review: First of all, the set up was VERY easy, took about 25 minutes, including getting the "code" for my county.Had an issue with getting through on the NOAA web site, which wasn't connecting. I had to go through a few "hoops" but finally got the information. It gave me 4 frequency options for my county. Input each one until I found the one with the clearest reception.Reception is UNBELIEVABLE!! I took it into my tornado shelter, which is in my garage. It is made of 1/4" plate steel on all 4 sides and the roof. It is tightly bolted to the concrete floor. I closed the door to pretty much "seal" it, turned the radio on for a local forecast, and it didn't miss a beat. I could hear everything just like I could if it was in the backyard. By comparison, my cell phone has NO reception in this same area. I recommend extending the 22" antenna fully up. I found a major difference in the reception with it fully extended, compared to just leaving it down and clamped to the radio itself.I left the factory defaults for the many assorted warnings that it is capable of, even if the vast majority will NEVER be used, (not too many earthquakes in Dallas). In the last 3 months or so, since i got it, has gone off several times so far when we had severe weather/tornado watches. Radio will wake you up. The speaker was more than good enough for the purpose. To be honest, the speaker may be excellent, but the quality of the actual NOAA radio broadcast is "functional", when you hear the message, your aren't listening to music, you just want the facts. The electric cord is long, maybe 6 feet or so, more than long enough for most people. The battery bak-up works, but don't know for how long, the most I have had it disconnected from electricity is about 15 minutes.I like that I can press down a button and get the immediate weather forecast for my area...SWEET! Don't have to go online, just hit the button on the radio, that is next to the bed.Overall, this is a great improvement from the 10 year old unit that it replaced and a price that is much less.

Title: The standard...and better than ever.
Review: I bought one of these 12 years ago. It was fine. Just bought another one (Oct '24). Being able to program in your county, or any county you're in, or a few counties if you want, used to involve entering 4 digit county codes from a table. No more. They are all in its memory. Plug it in, set the clock, set the language, then set the location. Super-easy menu surfing. When you get to location you get USA. SELECT or scroll down for your country. For the USA, then you get the States. I'm in Alabama and that made it easy! Then scroll down the alphabetical list of counties, SELECT yours. I live close the a county line so I entered both counties. Then I added the next county west of ours, because that's the most common track of a big thunderstorm or tornado.WHere I am (suburban Birmingham), reception of my local NOAA station was clear even without extending the antenna. If you're in the middle of no-freakin'-where, there's a connector for an external antenna.Great radio. A classic, improved.

Title: Radio is great, manual sucks
Review: First background! I have been a tech writer for over 40 years and am critical of manuals. The 1 and 2 stars ratings for this product are probably problems with the manual and not the product, because the user did not understand how to program the unit. It is really easy to program, but the manual is very confusing and incorrect. The first thing that appears when you plug in the radio is LANGUAGE, but the first thing listed on the manual is TIME, so you are already confused on how to set the LANGUAGE. Complaints about not being able to receive a station can be corrected by going to the SET CHANNEL area and scrolling the seven channels until a signal is received, but they don't mention why you should use that section of the manual until after you programmed the State and County, and that leaves the user confused. The sound quality is not good, but that is typical for this kind of radio. The voice is computer generated and clear, but strange sounding. Not the problem of the radio. The complaints about the siren being too loud is the typical volume for this type of device. We keep our radio in the bedroom and you need to be able to hear the alarm all though the house, so you need a loud alarm. Not a defect! To summarize, the radio is nice looking, easy to use and easy to program, it's the manual that is giving you problems. Read the manual carefully!

Title: Easy to program, great alarm, helps keep my family informed
Review: Iâve owned and used NOAA weather radios for decades. Our old oneâs reception was failing, so I replaced it with this version and was pleased at how much simpler this is to set up and operate. Programming in the SAME codes for my alerting area was very easy. Most recently, it kept my family informed of the flooding areas around Atlanta from Hurricane Helene - which mostly spared us from the winds, but dumped 11â of rain which flooded quite a few places though not as severe as so many other places in the stormâs path. Highly recommended!

Title: Simple set up
Review: This is the best weather radio Iâve ever had. Most are time consuming and tedious to program but this one was fast and easy to set up. It was up and running in minutes. Thereâs a remote antenna available for it but I found a spot right next to my bedroom window where reception was perfect using only the boom antenna.

Title: A Radio That Should Be In Every Home And Workplace.
Review: I bought this NOAA Weather Radio to replace one that was almost 25 years old and have been very satisfied with the performance and reception. The instructions are clear and the radio is very easy to program with the SAME feature. In my neck of the woods, severe weather events are common year round and many lives have been saved by a radio like this, hence my reasoning of why these should be as common in homes and workplaces as smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors. Depending on your location, you may need to adjust the antenna angle and the placement of the radio where everyone can hear it. Battery life (for backup for the clock and settings) is also quite good. For the price, this is an excellent investment that may save the lives of your loved ones and you. I can't recommend this radio highly enough and gladly give it 5 stars!

Review: i paid for this thinking since it has the S.A.M.E. feature it could be programmed to any country but no just within USA or Canada. Worked fine for a couple seconds with batteries in but had to find an adapter and keep it plugged into the wall; if I didn't have an adapter as it comes with the 2 pronged USA charger. The material feels fairly cheap particularly the charging cord and it feels could snap at any moment; the device itself 1. it reminds me of an early 00s CD player you carry around with you, which isn't bad but it doesn't last with the 3x double AA batteries (i tried a couple different ones, brand new) and so i can't really carry around with me and doesn't pick up any of the stations as I am on the other side of the atlantic so if I decided to go to USA to visit my friends or visit my family in Canada I can't even check for potential storms and so on, as even with the antenna doesn't pick up anything, just static and i can't even program with the feature to the region and place I am in 2.when you turn towards you you can't see anything on the display; it has 2 little collapsible legs so it's at an angle but if for example you tried mounting it to the wall you can't see anything. Can't pick up any stations or program it to where I am unfortunately. Tried to see if i could and reading the instructions and watching videos of the same product so I could have a reason to keep it but unfortunately will have to return it.

Review: Easy to program and operate. Provides timely Environment Canada weather updates for the area where you are sailing, kayaking or canoeing...Check the weather before you go out and you will not be sorry...This radio operates in AC and DC (batteries) current and is small enough to carry in your boat, kayak or canoe to prepare for changing weather conditions if you are already in the water.

Review: Seems to work fine and do it's job. Haven't had any alerts yet but in test mode the alarm is plenty loud enough.Simple enough to set up if you are used to working with appliance menus,. Even simpler to operate. Single button operation turns weather forecast on or off.
