This is one of those "especially for now" kinds of books, when food security appears on our basic to-do list. It's about growing food closer to where we live, whether it's on a condo deck, in a backyard or in a community garden. The 20-30 Something Garden Guide gives that active, mostly urban, 20-30 cohort a fun, non-intimidating introduction to the basics of gardening. More than ever, they want to know where their food comes from, and they're hip to the importance of good health and the environment. They may not have a lot of free time or change in their pockets, but if they could find a no-fuss, "here's how you can do it" Gardening 101, they'd go for it. This is that book: high graphic appeal, fully illustrated, step-by-step projects and essential tips. Garden expert Dee Nash divides her book into four types and sizes of gardens – starting with Farming Your Patio, Balcony or Deck – and giving incremental goals for the first year, and the second and third. With this guide as a basic roadmap, new gardeners can be as creative and out-of-the-box as they want.

Title: A delight to read, chuck full a great advice
Review: Straightforward, practical garden advice punctuated with personal garden stories makes The 20-30 Something Garden Guide: A no-fuss, down and dirty Gardening 101 for anyone who wants to grow stuff by Dee Nash a delight to read.A gardener with more years under my belt than I want to admit, I am always a bit leery about reading garden books written for the new gardener. I have gardened long enough to know there is always more, so much more, to learn about gardening. However, many my-first-garden-books are ho-hum and a bit on the light side, even for the first time gardener.Worry not my new to gardening friends; this book is a far cry from pedestrian! As soon as I dove in I could hear the collective sigh of relief of countless young gardeners. Imagine if you will a young gardener in training. She wants to grow her own food, inspired by all the talk about GMOs, the health benefits of growing your own food, the cost effectiveness of starting seeds and the wonderful, tasty bounty that is promised with a little hard work. But then reality sets in and she is about to throw in the trowel.Starting plants from seeds? Crop rotation? Warm and cool season plants? Dressing up the edible garden with ornamentals? It's enough to make a freshman gardener head to the grocery store crying uncle!Fortunately, Dee Nash has put her years of hands-on experience in the garden to paper. Her beautifully written garden advice and how-to is punctuated with personal stories, allowing the reader get to know this garden guru on a new level. The lovely photos and illustrations tie it all together. If you are new to gardening and desire to grow your own edibles, or you know a new gardener looking for that one book that has it all, you cannot go wrong with The 20-30 Something Garden Guide.

Title: I'm excited that Dee wrote a book.
Review: Hi friends. Let me say right up front that I went to high school with Dee. We didn't know each other well in school but after our last reunion and after we all joined facebook, we have become good friends. She's been gardening most of her life. I just began gardening in 2010. The extent of Dee's knowledge boggles my mind. I have bounced between asking her tons of gardening questions, to not asking her anything at all for fear of annoying her. I didn't want to scare off my new old friend. But let me be clear, she has always been encouraging and generous. Some of the plants in my garden actually came from starts in Dee's beautiful garden! I've said all this for a reason. That reason being, I AM SO GLAD SHE WROTE A BOOK! This really cuts down on my list of questions. In the book she starts with the very basics - things I should know by now but didn't - and carries you through several seasons in the garden. It even includes great how-to guides for projects I would never dream of trying without her instructions. And if I still have questions, there's her facebook page (named after the book) where I can go for even more information because she posts gardening info there too. Lastly, it's beautiful and engaging cover to cover. My mom no longer gardens (she actually never gardened too much) but she spent hours one afternoon enjoying Dee's book. She found it interesting, pretty and humorous. My thought, if the book appeals to a non-gardener like my mom, it should appeal to everyone. Give it a look. You won't be disappointed. My copy already has lots of highlighted text.

Title: The Perfect Gift for Getting Young Folks into Gardening!
Review: If you are looking for a good gardening 101 book that is easy to read and put into use, I highly recommend this book! Dee has been gardening for a couple of decades in her native Oklahoma. She is also a freelance writer and speaker. I read on Facebook that Dee Nash, was giving a talk on Kitchen Gardens at The Natural Gardener in Austin. I was so excited because I love her new book the 20-30 Something Garden Guide. The tag line says it all “a no-fuss, down and dirty Gardening 101 for anyone who wants to grow stuff”.I really enjoyed her wonderful positive attitude. The advice she gives is easy to follow and very useful. Meeting her and her husband in person was a treat. It is a bit awkward meeting someone whose blog you read regularly because you feel like you know them already but they don’t know you. She totally put us at ease. I have been following her on FB and reading her blog Red Dirt Ramblings for a while. I enjoy her passion and her dedication to sharing her gardening knowledge with others especially the next generation. Her children are becoming young adults and she speaks their language which is evident in her book. I am putting this on my list of books to recommend to clients that want to do more gardening but don’t know where to start!

Title: Perfect for beginners and those looking for a new perspective.
Review: This is definitely a great book for those who want to start gardening, but haven't the slightest clue how to start or feel intimidated by all the seemingly contrary information out there.I really like that she describes, how over time, a garden can grow, and how it can be built upon and personalized.

Title: I like this book because it gives brief but very helpful ...
Review: I like this book because it gives brief but very helpful overviews on many different subjects (i.e. different containers, how to compost). Its not very detailed, but in this case, that's sort of a plus. The author gives the reader a easy, no fuss method of doing something, gives a couple of good pointers, then encourages the reader to look into other more complicated methods if they're interested. I have to admit, I don't understand the organization of this book at all and it doesn't seem to flow for me. Its less of a step-by-step instruction book and more of a "here are all these great ways to grow plants and here's the difference between this and that" mish-mash of advice and ideas. This book has given me a lot of ideas and convinced me to try out things I had previously thought were too complicated.
