Benefits of 670nm Red Light Therapy

Red light is unique in its ability to preserve the body’s natural circadian rhythm, unlike other light wavelengths that can interfere with your sleep. Most common light sources, such as those from screens or overhead lighting, emit blue wavelengths. These blue wavelengths are particularly disruptive because they suppress melatonin production—the hormone that tells your body it’s time to rest. When melatonin levels are reduced, it can be harder to fall asleep and maintain a healthy sleep pattern.

In contrast, red light is free from these harmful blue wavelengths, making it a better choice for evening or nighttime use. It allows the body to continue its natural production of melatonin, helping you fall asleep more easily and maintain a regular sleep cycle.

Red Light TherapyRed Light Therapy

The Science Behind Red Light Therapy

The 670nm wavelength stimulates the production of melatonin, the hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating your body’s sleep-wake cycles. By promoting the natural alignment of your circadian rhythm, this specific wavelength helps signal to your body that it’s time to relax, making it easier to fall asleep quickly and experience deeper, more restorative rest. Safe, non-invasive, and easy to use, our lamp provides a natural and effective solution to improve your sleep quality and boost relaxation.

Recent human studies have demonstrated the positive effects of red light therapy on sleep. Participants exposed to 670nm red light saw significant improvements in both sleep quality and duration when compared to those in the control group. The results show that regular exposure to red light before bed can help foster better sleep habits, making it an ideal option for those seeking a natural way to address sleep disturbances.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Revive Bulb? We recommend using the Revive Light Bulb for around one hour before bedtime. Other lights should not be used as blue and white light will interfere with sleep. The light can be left on overnight so that when you wake, it can help you safely navigate your space or you can use the light with a timer to shut off after you are asleep. Can I change brightness? No, this bulb cannot be dimmed. It is designed to operate at a fixed brightness and is not compatible with dimmer switches. Using it with a dimmer switch may cause flickering or reduce the lifespan of the bulb. If you need dimmable lighting, please choose a bulb specifically labeled as dimmable. Do my eyes need to be open? When using the Revive Light Bulb, your eyes do not need to be open for it to be effective. The 670nm red light works by creating a calming environment that helps prepare your body for sleep. You can use the lamp with your eyes open or closed, as the red light helps signal to your brain that it’s time to wind down for the night. Why is 670nm light different? Studies have shown that pure red light at a wavelength of 670nm is best for sleep. Red light can be found in a spectrum of 620-750nm. Our Revive Light Bulb is specifically and precisely designed at 670nm.

Title: Better Sleep?
Review: I am a terrible sleeper! Just about anything will wake me up and I often feel super groggy in the morning.I figured that this red light would be a good adjunct to better sleep but minimising the light interuption issue. So far I think it is helping. Of course, it may be placebo effect but I really do feel as though I wake less frequently and am less groggy in the mornings.

Title: A Red LIght bulb
Review: A nice bright red light to help back light an area that is behind or in front of you. This range of light is nice on the eyes and helps you wind down just a bit faster. This light itself fits your standard bulb and provides a decent amount of light. Overall I don't know a lot about sleep studies or how it effects other people, but it seems decent to me.

Title: Eye health virtually requires red light on this very specific, natural wavelength.
Review: The Gamma Revive red light devices use the specific wavelength of 670nm, which is the band that has been shown to provide maximum benefits to human health in numerous independent international and domestic studies.Dealing with the vision diminishment caused by AMD (age related macular degeneration) I have studied numerous articles and scientific papers about how red-light therapy is being used related to eye health. While it has not been proven to be able to reverse the damage already done, it has shown considerable promise to reduce further degradation in many subjects and some do experience improvement. I already own a pair of red-light therapy goggles that shine red-light on this wavelength onto your eyes using a simple but specific protocol, which I purchased from a company in the UK as they are not yet approved for sale in the US. It must be understood that a long term, committed, and continued use is required to obtain benefit, as there is no ‘magic bullet’ by which to quickly improve or restore our health when we’ve spent sometimes decades in decline. On the company website “Learn” tab see > "what is red light therapy" > "Red light and eye health” for information. There are also several articles provided under "blog" on the same tab.Spending long hours every day working in my home office, I wanted something to *effectively* replace regular LED lighting with that which nature designed to provide mitochondrial protection and healing to us. Red light is an essential part of the natural light spectrum and required for the health of every creature and plant (except perhaps deep-sea creatures). Even so, exposure to the sun, and specifically the sun in our eyes has been demonized in our culture for decades (on which was built a highly profitable “eye protection,” aka. sunglasses industry). Yet, this market creating illusion fully ignores the fact that for the thousands of years we’ve been exposed to it, even people who live with the glare from desert sands or from ocean waves have known that sunlight brings life and with few exceptions, such as the Inuit who cut slits in wood or ivory and made coverings for their eyes when hunting on bright days on the ice and fields of snow, people had no reason to be fearful and hide themselves from it! In fact, for millennia, the majority of ancient cultures actively worshipped a ‘sun god' as their most important deity…When I saw this bulb, as it can be used in any lamp that accepts a regular size bulb, I knew that it would perfectly fit my needs. At minimum, this product allows me to balance out the light spectrum in my office which can only be a good thing, but I am also very hopeful that this bulb, in combination with other things that I’m doing to combat AMD, will make a notable difference in slowing the decline of my vision. There is such a wide range of benefit and virtually nothing to lose by using this product. The value is amazing, as it is rated to last 50,000 hours before needing replacement. I encourage everyone to bring this into their environment and see what 'light' as nature intended it to be, can do for their overall health.

Review: There are many reported benefits of using Red Light Therapy. I've read a couple of books on the topic, so I'm familiar with the benefits, but my personal experience has not been so conclusive. I've tried a few devices that use very small LEDs, so I was curious to compare with this bulb in case the form factor makes any difference. However the light frequency is a bit different too. Those light panels emit both 660nm (red) and an 850nm (infrared) lights, whereas this bulb emits 670nm (red) light only.Being able to plug into a standard light socket lowers the cost of entry for many people who might want to try red light therapy. They can easily convert one of their existing lamps into a red light therapy device. You could also combine this with a smart socket to have your light automatically turn on and off on a set schedule. Perfect if you would like to have it on while you fall asleep, but not have it stay on all night. I can't comment on its effectiveness, since that will probably vary with personal experience, but I give it full marks for function and convenience.

Review: This is a fairly decent standard (E26/A19) LED light bulb with a narrow and near-infrared wavelength of 670nm (claimed) that's reasonably bright based on its advertised wattage and brightness (6W/50W). The physical build quality seems decent (albeit typical) without visible defects. It's fairly cool to the touch although it hasn't run for an extended period of time so I dunno how hot this will get although it's only 6W/50 lm so it shouldn't get too hot.Like the vast majority of these LED light bulbs, this does NOT have any safety certification so if this concerns you, look elsewhere.≡ Safety note (from official gov sites)✔ Electrical products that plug into an electrical outlet must meet Canadian national safety standards and be certified by an accredited certification body.✔ Always check for certification marks, such as CSA, cUL, or cETL, before purchasing electrical products that plug into an electrical outlet. These marks indicate that the products are assessed and conform to the required Canadian national safety standard.✔ Do not buy or use electrical products that plug into an electrical outlet without a certification mark. While some people would argue that these safety certifications means little or even nothing because there are products out there with safety cert that fail to perform while others without it have performed better in comparison. I'd say that's fallaciously misguided simply because exceptions are never to be used as supportive arguments to statements that are inherently untrue.Do you stop using seatbelts because someone died of accidents while wearing one? Is driver's license unnecessary because more accidents are caused by those with valid licenses than not? There are countless examples I could think of but most importantly is the undisputed fact that it is the Canadian law and it's there to minimize harm and not necessarily eliminate it. If the idea of certifications (safety or otherwise) are truly useless, then our civilization would crumble. In either case, I'd choose and support products with any of the 3 certs mentioned above any day over products that have none. The choice is of course yours, as always.###I can't verify its claim with respect to the possible health benefits it can provide since this is not what I intend to use it for so I'll just leave it at that. However, it does works just fine without issues for what I need it for and that's good enough for me. Btw, this doesn't appear to flicker at all, at least with whatever the default shutter speed is when the picture is taken. Also, this is NOT dimmable.≡ ValueAll things considered, this is a fairly decent standard (E26/A19) LED light bulb with a narrow and near-infrared wavelength of 670nm (claimed) that seems reasonably well-made and works as expected without issues. Unfortunately, it does NOT have any safety certification and it's pricey at $44 (for a single light bulb) for what it provides and it overall usability and performance. Your mileage might vary.

Review: I’ve been reading a lot about the benefits of red light for sleep. I got new lamps and thought this was the perfect time to switch bulbs. I’m still getting used to it but I do feel it helps with sleep. The red creates a warm glow that is somewhat bright but not enough to wake me up. The bulb is very expensive but if it helps with a decent sleep then it’s worth it. I do like that you just plug it in to a standard lamp and it works. No muss, no fuss. Overall, I’m happy but will reserve final judgement for after I’ve used it for a few months.

Review: I started using this red light bulb for a couple of days a few hours before I go to bed.I've set it up on at my computer desk since that's where i usually am before I go to sleep.I have to say that I did find that the red light was easier on my eyes than the lights I was using before and I do have the impression that it help me sleep better. Although I only have a small sample testing size of a couple of days and a total use of less than 6h, I can't say for sure if these results are just coincidence without using the bulb longer. Unfortunately, I can't because the on the 3rd day after turning on my lamp, the red bulb flickered a couple of times followed by a popping sound and the bulb turned off and no longer works. At 43.88$ per bulb, the short period of time I've been able to use it wasn't conclusive enough for me to justify trying again.

Review: It's good as an ambient light but even in a small den where I am mostly in, it doesn't fill the whole room if you keep it off to the side. You basically need it in a floor lamp that won't be blinding you. You do not want to look directly at this bulb. Any time I have, I am seeing spots afterwards and if anyone has used red light therapy they'd know the importance of this. You will want it out of direct line of sight or use something to protect your eyes. I have it in a floor lamp. It may be better since if you are laying down and you are looking up you'll be staring at the bulb.Speaking of which, this will not replace your red light therapy. It is just so you have less blue light at night. Keep in mind that using a device like a PC or phone, or e-reader will still emit blue light even on a night mode but if you have to use something then it is still better to have this on together rather than sit with eye strain in no light. It is perfect for meditation though which is when I use it. Even in the morning if I meditate I use it with lights blocked out for extra relaxation. I do guided meditations in the day and in the evening reflecting and gratitude meditations. So far it is a nice ambient light but I haven't notice all too much and likely due to the fact that I'm on a device regardless if it has a amber screen at night. If you want to make the most of this you'd have to remove all blue light sources. I am sensitive to blue leds especially so even something like that may be an issue even if tiny. I have to cover everyone with it with tape to take it out of a sleeping area.Regardless, this can help. If you want red light therapy though, you may want to stick to something more focused.
