Title: Great sounding hard rock record
Review: Great sounding hard rock record. Very well done. Not the most earth shattering music or playing but it's not supposed to be. Too bad rock radio in America ignores most rock bands. These guys could have been stars if cooperate America let them be and stood behind good rock music.

Title: Great Band - Good Album (3)
Review: If you enjoy good generic-melodic hard rock, then I recommend the band Gun and this album. Rocks hard enough to be enjoyable (with good melodies and vocals that you can understand - 4 out of 5 stars).

Taking On The WorldTo celebrate the 25th anniversary of their acclaimed debut album, GUN released of `Taking On The World' on October 27th 2014.The reissue consists of three discs, including original album, B-sides, rarities and BBC sessions.GUN's contemporary take on authentic rock gave them an edge over their peers during the late-80s. Formed in Glasgow by the Gizzi brothers, they came to re-invent the rock `n' roll genre. In September 2010, "Taking On The World" was included in Classic Rock magazine's list of the 150 Greatest Debut Albums of All Time. Kerrang Magazine gave the album 5K, stating "The brilliance of Taking On The World Comes As No Surprise" while Phil Alexander called it "...pop rock at its finest"."Taking On The World" marked a milestone in the Scottish band's history, selling more than 60K in the UK alone and the single "Better Days" charted in the UK top 40."It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since we recorded `Taking On The World' in Park Lane Studios. Like all bands that first start out recording their debut album we had no inhibitions, not needing to worry about retaining any level of success as we hadn't been there before, we just wanted to record an album that WE wanted to make. So proud of what we achieved with that album and just so happy that it's been given a proper re-release." - Vocalist Dante Gizzi

Title: Great rock and roll -- band once opened for the Stones!!!
Review: It must be something with the word "Gun." Have gun in your name, and will travel in the world of rock and roll. First it was Guns N' Roses, then L.A. Guns. You can add Scotland's Gun to the list of great gunslinging rock and rollers. This band sounds like neither GNR or L.A. Guns, but like both of those bands, was a damn good rock and roll band. Find this album and everything else from this band. Apparently, three different complete albums are out there before the band decided to call it quits.TAKING ON THE WORLD was the band's debut, and arguably best effort. Incredibly, or not, Gun opened for the Rolling Stones on a European stadium tour way back in 1990. Yet, most people in America have never heard of this band. A crying shame.Album opener "Better Days" is a great introduction to the band, next song "The Feeling Within" might be their best song ever, and "Inside Out," "Money," "Can't Get Any Lower" and the title track "Taking On The World" are all solid songs. The rest of 10-song album isn't bad either. Not much filler here, pretty much all killer.Gun is great rock and roll delivered with passion, guts and true feeling. Singer Mark Rankin is the calling card here. While surrounded by a tight sounding very competent rock band, it's Rankin's begging to be heard voice that gives Gun its best shot. Very original great sounding rock and roll songs that sound like no one before them or anyone since. Find it. You just might love it.

Review: Bought this as a second-hand product from the supplier zoverstocks (for less than the price of a pint) and the condition was excellent, so well played them...The album is one I had years ago when it was released. I bought it on cassette tape (it was 25 years ago). I was 'revisiting' this digitally and like it better now than I did those 20 odd years ago. Real rock without going totally over the top. Driving vocals from Mark Rankin and plenty of guitar riffs, but no over self indulgent solos. Interestingly, female backing vocal's on a number of tracks feature Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri, who I understand is Rankins cousin. It clearly sound like her on the excellent, atmospheric, closing track 'I Will Be Waiting'.A totally underrated band. If you like unfussy rock music and haven't heard much by these guys, then do yourself a favour and buy it!
