Title: Family tradition
Review: I grew up with this cookbook on my mother's shelf. She taught me how to cook using this and the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook. It has the best pastry crust recipe I have ever used, and the best apple pie! It's more than just a recipe book, though. It has the history of the spices used, teaches about the cultures that produced the recipes, and more. It's so fascinating you can just sit down and read it like a history book, even if you never try a single recipe. This book is an absolute treasure! I inherited it from my mother, but it was lost during one of my many moves. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to find it again! Now I'll be able to pass it on to my daughter!

Title: Great cookbook
Review: I love cookbooks. As soon as I get a new one I sit down with a hot cup of tea and read it! This is a large cookbook so I am still making my way through it. I love the detailed illustrations and history of the spice trade. The recipes look very good as well. I especially love 1960's era cookbooks because the recipes are usually simple and delicious and this book fits the bill. I highly recommend picking up a copy!

Title: Great fin 60 years later!
Review: I bought my first copy of this book in the mid-1960âs for a medical reason to avoid salt in my cooking. In the 1990âs I found 2 copies of the book in used bookstores for my daughters. I was so pleased to find 2 copies available to give to my grandchildren 60 years after my initial purchase. They were in perfect condition. Obviously, the previous owners had never used the cookbooksâ their loss. Many recipes in this book have become family favorites, and Iâm so happy to be able pass this legacy on to the next generation!

Title: Best Old World Cook Book
Review: My German daughter in law told me about this book. She makes the pecan pie from this book for our family every Christmas and everyone asks her for the recipe. She says it was from her mother and a secret. Then when my granddaughter was old enough she told me she would not tell me the secret recipe also. I was hurt. So 3 months ago when we were talking I told her how hurt I was as i was the grandmother and yet not considered as family for the secret recipe. She then told me it was in this book but not to tell my son and his wife. So there you have it. A wonderful cook book witih old recipies.

Title: Recipes good, Spice Charts NOT readable
Review: The history and background info on the spices is fascinating and the recipes are interesting. I am highly disappointed that the spice charts are still completely illegible, not even readable when I zoom in. The paper book is better in that respect.

Title: Five stars for the fast and timely delivery, 3 stars for the book.
Review: 5 stars- quick delivery4 stars- I bought this cookbook for one recipe I had been looking for. My brother-in-law's sauerkraten (sp?)... He would never tell me the recipe and he knew it killed me. Finally got a couple glasses of wine in his mom and she finally revealed where the "family recipe" actually came from.3 stars- I can't say I'm thrilled about the rest of the book. Many are just modifications of pre-made items. For example, the recipe for sesame rolls is to melt butter, spread it over store-bought rolls, sprinkle sesame seeds over, and put in oven. Book is from the 50s or 60s, so maybe the novelty of pre-made dinners influenced this book.4 stars- the illustrations make me happy.

Title: Great Vinatge Find
Review: I happened upon this book while sitting around chatting with neighbors ans swapping recipes. One neighbor pulled put this cookbook and swore by it. Of course having such an incredibly overwhelming advocate, I wanted the book for myself. Luckily this provider sold me such a lovely copy of this vintage book, chock-full of spicy delights, I'm happy with my purchase. From supplier to shippers this was an excellent experience!

Title: Great Traditional Recipes
Review: I LOVE this book and have purchased several copies over the years. I love to share this with friends and family. It also makes a nice wedding gift. It isn't always easy to find as it is out of print. I haven't tested all the recipes, but have had great success with the ones I have tried. My favorites are the Velvet Spice and Poppyseed cakes. The artwork are all drawings/sketches, no photographs as was somewhat typical of that era (1960's) of cookbooks. This is truly a great addition to the shelf of cookbooks in anyone's kitchen.

Review: I bought this book brand new many years ago when I first learned how to cook. It was recommended by a friend who happened to be a fabulous cook. A few years ago, I went on a Health Kick and decided not to eat meat and gave away my book. I have been sorry every since and have been searching for this book. Buying it used, felt like my old book which was returned to me! I love it and will not part with it again. The service was prompt and it arrived sooner than expected. I am very satisfied.

Review: I bought this on Kindle because it was so well reviewed and although the text of the book is acceptable none of the 5 charts of spices and herbs at the beginning of the book are legible. It is frustrating that care is not taken when books are marketed in digital form to ensure that useful information is legible. (An internet link to download the charts would have been a nice compromise). That said there are many wonderful recipes to try. I would be annoyed if I had paid full price.
