The beloved owner of the wildly popular Sweetie Pie's restaurant, and star of the OWN reality television show Welcome to Sweetie Pie's shares recipes for her renowned soul food and the lessons she's learned on the path to success.

Growing up in Mississippi and St. Louis, Robbie Montgomery, the oldest of nine children, was often responsible for putting meals on the family table. Working side by side with her mother in their St. Louis kitchen, Robbie learned to prepare dozens of classic soul food dishes.

Now, at seventy-two, Miss Robbie passes down those traditions for generations of fans to enjoy in Sweetie Pie's Cookbook. Robbie takes you into the kitchen to prepare her most favored meals—smothered pork chops, salmon croquettes, baked chicken—and tells you heartfelt and humorous stories, including amazing tales from her life at the restaurant and on the road as a back-up singer. Miss Robbie began her culinary career on the road—in the segregated America of the1960s, finding welcoming restaurants in small cities and towns was often challenging for African-Americans. When a collapsed lung prematurely ended her singing career, Miss Robbie returned to St. Louis, using her formidable cooking talent to open a soul food restaurant that would make her legend.

Through her show and this special cookbook, Miss Robbie hopes to maintain the place of soul food cooking—its recipes, history, and legacy—in American culture for decades to come.

Sweetie Pie's Cookbook includes 75-100 gorgeous color photos and an Index.

Title: The book is priceless
Review: This was a holiday gift to myself. My plan was to write out a holiday meal from the recipes inside the book. Well, the writer of the book did that for me. The stories and picture were wonderful! One of the best holiday books I've ever received. Also, all the items I want to make this year and inside this book. I'm excited to get started cooking. When I went to Sweetie Pie's years ago I loved the food.

Title: Great Cookbook!
Review: So far I tried the greens, potato salad, hot honey chicken wings, & succotash. Everything is very good and pretty simple to make. I am not a very good cook and I found that a couple of the recipes do not complete the instructions. For example, the chicken wings calls for lemon juice and soy sauce in the instructions, but do not list those two ingredients in the Ingredients list, therefore I had to guess at how much to use and I probably got it wrong. Another example: the succotash recipe indicates to cook the bacon and remove from the pan, but then the instructions stop. However, by looking at the picture I figured out what to do with the bacon. I wish all the recipes could have had a pic, but I know that was not possible. The pics that are in the book are outstanding. I had already made the mac & cheese several times by getting the recipe online. Making Sweetie Pie’s mac & cheese is the only way I can make a decent mac & cheese. I can’t wait to try more of the recipes.

Title: Good, Authentic Southern Soul Food
Review: I really like this cookbook a lot, but wish the editors would have been paying more attention. I've made the black-eyed peas and they were fabulous. There are two sets of directions for cooking them, crockpot and stove top. Liquid amount isn't given for the crockpot, but I figured it was in the body of the other recipe. I'm also old enough to have taken home ec classes, which taught how to read recipes. The succotash recipe is also excellent. My husband and & I had it for Christmas with ham. I wouldn't deduct ANY stars from this cookbook because the recipes are just that good. I don't think it would hurt anyone to think a little before they cook and wonder if the "balance" of ingredients seems correct. Also, If you like this cookbook, give Dora Charles a glance. Also very good food.
