Title: Helpful for Those Who Want To Be Saints; Humorous
Review: This was a fantastic book and a quick read. As a single woman and a Catholic blogger, I found the book to be very relevant for my life. As someone who takes seriously the universal call to holiness and as someone who wants to be a saint, John Antonioâs book served as a reminder that this is our goal in life. He talks in the book about working on virtues, selecting a virtue each year to grow in. This is not just good advice for seminarians, but also for single lay people and married lay people. Life is about becoming the saint God intends us to be. We cannot do that without Godâs grace and without working on improving ourselves each and every day. This is what life is all about. I also enjoyed how the book served as a reminder that the Catholic Church has always promoted learning. As lay people, we should be continuously learning and growing in life. One way to do that is by reading good books, such as this one. John also includes interesting information on the differences between the female and male brains, which is always helpful. He also talks about the dignity of human work. This is something that St. John Paul II talked about often in his writings. Whether we are sweeping the floor, making lattes, or serving others, we can do all of these tasks for God and we can do all these tasks with excellence. This book was also humorous and I recommend it highly-for seminarians, singles, for everyone.

Title: Don't let the title fool you! Great resource not just for Catholics.
Review: Understandably, the first thing most people might think when seeing Mr. Antonio's book is, "What on earth is a guy who spent half his life devoted to a vow of chastity going to teach me about single life, let alone dating?" I certainly felt that way, and let me tell you it was a joy to be proven wrong very quickly by this little gem of a book. In a way, it is too bad the author didn't end up becoming a priest, because this book contains exactly the kind of intelligent, pithy, yet very funny and down-to-earth advice you would hope for from a good homily (an endangered species, I am afraid, as our PC, don't-offend-anyone culture has "succeeded" in making bland, weak-tea sermons the norm on Sundays). All in all, I think the highest praise I can give this book is it is something I wish I could have read when I was in high school many years ago. As Mr. Antonio says when talking about the importance of mentors, timely advice can save us from a lot of wasted time and unnecessary heartache, and opening this book is like finding a good mentor. I will definitely pass it along to the younger men and women in my life in hopes of giving them a leg up for the future.

Title: This tome definitely boxes above its weight of 120 pages and would be an excellent addition to any single personâs bookshelf
Review: All single young adults want to succeed professionally and in the dating world, but it can be difficult to navigate all of the advice and how-to books on the market. Dating and Other Things Catholic will help get you in shape to succeed, not only physically but, more importantly, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. John has distilled seemingly archaic Catholic principles from 15 years in the seminary to a very enjoyable read. In doing so he opens his soul for us and makes it evident that even lay single people can benefit from the principles of Catholic religious life. This tome definitely boxes above its weight of 120 pages and would be an excellent addition to any single personâs bookshelf, no matter what creed they profess.

Title: Not just for Catholics
Review: A great book with helpful hints, not just about dating, but about life in general. For example, chapter one has a wonderful discussion on attachments, and removing physical, emotional, and mental clutter. At first glance, you might wonder what a former seminarian can teach you about dating. His unique experience results in a unique viewpoint, not just on dating, but on such things as commitment, setting goals, and being the best you can be. The advise is interspersed with funny stories, and the Catholic way of things.

Title: Perfect book for the practical Catholic
Review: The way John Antonio speaks throughout his book is humbling and inspiring. My biggest takeaways were far beyond dating, even though the title was what drew me in. Though he was educated with great interpersonal skills, life in seminary is an atypical experience for the resume.John talks about working as a barista, and the mentality of being too good for your job. He really delivers the message that no matter where you are, you can make a profound difference. He encapsulates this message where people also have egos, such as qualifications and background. While what you have accomplished may be impressive, it only matters what exactly you are doing with it.John continues on to dating with a practical stance in matter of stages. I believe most people have experienced what it is like to rush into things based on emotions, or even feel reticent about moving forward. The longer the relationship matures, the more privileges that are granted. However, privileges come with responsibilities. John is able to make the connection in a way that kept me engaged with grounded optimism for any future relationship I engage in. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like a renewed perspective and outlook on life.
