The most acclaimed comedy of TV's golden age, The Dick Van Dyke Show comes to life in this fun-filled and impeccably researched book, the first and only authorized biography of television's most influential comedy. Readers are afforded full backstage access at the making of one of America's most beloved comedies in a book that's packed with exclusive behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the show's entire cast and crew, including Carl Reiner, Mary Tyler Moore, Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam, Larry Mathews, and, of course, Dick Van Dyke himself.  Illustrated with more than 150 rare photos--many of them never before published--this indispensable companion to The Dick Van Dyke Show also features the first and only complete viewer's guide to all 158 episodes of the show, including Carl Reiner's Head of the Family, the pilot film that started it all.  Written in an engaging style by the Emmy-winning writer and journalist Vince Waldron, The Official Dick Van Dyke Show really is the definitive book on television's definitive comedy show.

Title: "DEFINITIVE" Is Right! A Fascinatingly-Detailed Volume!
Review: This book features an amazing amount of insight into one of the very best television programs to ever grace the airwaves, "The Dick Van Dyke Show".If you're an avid fan of this 1961-1966 CBS-TV program, trust me, you will NOT be able to stop turning pages until you've read the whole thing! In each chapter, we learn new tidbits of behind-the-scenes information. There's info (including some brief biographical data) about every single member of the show's stellar cast. For example: Did You Know .... that the audience laughter went on so long when Greg Morris & his on-screen spouse entered the Petrie home at the end of the episode "That's My Boy??" that the editor actually had to cut out some of the audience hysterics in order to fit the episode into the allowable timeframe? (Too bad, too. I'd love to have heard the WHOLE thing. A great episode indeed.)The book also reveals the fact that Mary Tyler Moore stormed off the set in a huff one time, while doing the ultimately-classic episode, "Never Bathe On Saturday". She was upset because she was off-camera and talking through a door for most of the show. But, after seeing how funny the show worked as written, MTM felt bad about her tirade."Never Bathe On Saturday" features Dick's great line, after finding that the hotel bathroom door is locked: "Don't toy with me, you saucy wench." 🙂 LOL!!!!Plus there's a complete episode guide, with still more tidbits written within most of the episode descriptions.I cannot imagine a more thorough and detailed Dick Van Dyke Show volume than this one. This book is a MUST for any fan of this highly-intelligent and magnificently-written TV program.

Title: Dick Van Dyke Show Book AMAZING
Review: SIMPLY INCREDIBLE – I just received my brand new copy of The Official Dick Van Dyke Show Book. I’m so excited and impressed I can’t stand it. This is easily the most COMPLETE resource of this or ANY TV Production I’ve ever seen. My congratulations to author Vince Waldron (a DVD Super-Fan himself) for creating this comprehensive accounting that shows his devotion for all those who made it possible. The attention to detail and accuracy is breathtaking. I also love all the candid and promotional photos!I especially appreciate the look behind the scenes of these classic episodes. Even casual fans can appreciate the nostalgic return to this significant part of our American Entertainment History.Equally impressive is the episode by episode review including synopsis, cast credits, film dates, air dates and writer credits, etc. How lucky were we to be able to enjoy such a show during our lifetime. Thanks to Vince, we are now validated in our fanatical fandom. I’m now guilt-free in realizing I’m not alone in my love of the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Title: Good but not the best
Review: The reviews I read about this book made it seems like the quintessential be all, end all DVD show book. It's good but does not give nearly as much behind the scenes information about the individual shows, as I was looking for. Good but not great.

Title: Great trivia book for fans of "The Dick Van Dyke Show!"
Review: I'm a HUGE fan of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (as is my whole family). We (including my children) can name most episodes, just by seeing one picture, or hearing one line. :-)One of the bedrooms in our cabin has twin beds, so we'be been calling it The Dick Van Dyke room. So, I decided to decorate that room with the theme of the episode, "The Ghost of a Chantz (because of the cabin theme in that episode)." We even have a sign outside the bedroom door that says, "Lake Pampas Lodge." It turned out GREAT!I got this book to put on the bedside table. The only thing I wish is that it came in a hard cover option, but maybe someday...

Title: Enjoyed reading and re-reading...
Review: This book is everything a fan might want and more. For the casual fan, it is an amazing reference book. For the dedicated fan, it had all the details that enhance the show's treasure trove of memories. For the scholar it is an indispensable aid for understanding the era and how television was created during an critically important era of American history. There are innumerable photos of scenes, alternate takes, actors, and intimate moments of the actors and the characters they played. As a wonderful bonus, facsimiles of the original scripts are included for detailed examination. Encyclopedic in scope, not only has years of research went into this, but there is affection for the show on every page. I've enjoyed reading and re-reading this.
