Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter's family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won't go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.

Title: A cheesier family movieâ¦
Review: The War with Grandpa is a cheesier family movie with some adult jokes here and there that make it worthy of a watch at some point. Iâm not sorry I rented it, but wouldnât have been happy purchasing it as I will not watch it again. Could it be better? Yes. Could it be worse? Yes. Itâs a movie most families can relate to on multiple levels. 3 stars.Whatâs it about? Grandpa (De Niro) moves in with his daughter Sallyâs (Thurman) family after a couple events raise concerns as heâs been living on his own since his wifeâs passing. The son, Peter (Fegley), is told his room is now Grandpaâs and the attic is his due to Grandpaâs needs. Needless to say, he is not a happy camper and complains to his friends at school. His friends tell him he has rights, thus starting the beginning of the war. Grandpa finds a note declaring war but doesnât take it sincerely at first. After a couple of incidences, Grandpa realizes Peter is serious and itâs game on. They play various pranks on each other, create a rule of engagement list, engage in peace talks, and even try a dodge ball game to end the war. Throughout the war, they both make it clear they love each other and spend some time together fishing. Eventually the war hits a boiling point at Jenniferâs birthday party. Thereâs a couple back stories with Grandpaâs friends (Walken, Marin) and potential love interest (Seymour), the older sister Mia(Marano), the father Arthur (Riggle), and school friends. It is left open for a sequel. As credits roll we see a little behind-the-scenes action (singing, dancing, bloopers). Thereâs some stereotypical old people stuff thrown in and feels a bit disjointed at times. The cast was OK, nothing to write home about.Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Peter tells friends at school he lives in North Korea at one point (is part of a joke), bullying in school (one kid likes to dump food on or in bags of other kids), older teenage sister has boy in house when no one is home (doesnât show what they are doing, breaks the rules of not being home alone with a boy), De Niroâs butt is shown halfway once and twice itâs indicated heâs naked and flashing Arthur due to a prank of Peterâs (no nudity shown), Peter and Grandpa run away from DNR when fishing (they didnât know there was no fishing in the lake and were breaking the law), the mom acts like she is going to punch the teenage daughters boyfriend but then gives him a helping hand up as heâs laying on the ground from when she tackled him, when Grandpa and his friends are walking one of the friends ogles multiple women who are jogging, yelling during the peace talks (according to the sister), the death of Grandpaâs wife but it is never said why or discussed in detail. Language used: hell x2.

Title: Funny and fun
Review: Loved this movie all the way to the end. It's fun throughout as the "war between the generations" unfolds between grandpa and the grandson who has to give up his room so grandpa can move in. Robert de Niro is his usually great self and the rest of the cast are so likeable. Really fun. Watch it with your whole family when the grandparents (or the grandkids) are over. Great family entertainment.
