Review: With house phone sound seems to be wasted but this phone has a great sound. The quality of the phone is great and it is so comfortable to hold. It serves its purpose and I couldn't be happier; I can see the keypad in the dark. I can hear extremely well. And the life of the battery is amazing because I forget to put it on the base sometimes.

Title: Loud, clear, and just right for anyone who wants a simple phone
Review: My grandpa insists on keeping his home phone even though he never uses it. It didn’t help that he could barely hear it either. I figured if he’s paying a phone bill every month he might as well be able to use it so I ordered this one since it had everything he needed and was a great price.It’s a plain old phone line so it was simple to install. Just plug the base into a wall outlet and then plug the phone cord into the base (it even comes with a cord). The phone is up and running in seconds. To make it even easier for him I added a few phone numbers and names into the phone. This was surprisingly easy and only took a few minutes. This way he won’t have to go looking for our numbers, plus our names will show when we call.His biggest issue is hearing so I set the ringer to high. It’s loud enough that even he didn’t have problems hearing it. The call volume is pretty loud and I found calls to be clear as well. He was able to hear well through the test calls I made him.The buttons are big enough that he’s not accidentally pressing more than one button at a time. They’re also easy to push (the other reason he needed a new phone). The phone comes with a small instruction manual so it’s easier for him to get used to the phone.So far, he’s happy with the phone. If anything changes I’m sure he will let me know and I’ll share an update. It’s a simple phone that’s just perfect for someone who doesn’t want/need any extras. It’s loud, has large enough buttons, and it’s cordless. It feel like it was a great choice for him.

Title: Works Well Except for Failure of Bluetooth to Connect to Headphones
Review: This cordless phone is impressive for its price. It has good sound quality, the usual features, plus it's supposed to hook up via Bluetooth to headsets. That was a key reason I chose it. Unfortunately, I can get it to the point of indicating it's searching for my headset, but it never connects. That same headset connects easily with my cell phone, but not for this phone.I contacted VTech support who basically told me to follow the directions and if that doesn't work, return it.The only other weaknesses are the buttons which require a hard push with no clear sense of when that is working.On the positive side, the choice for ring tone is better than usual--I actually like the short bit of music and the tone is pleasant, the voicemail works well (though i use my online version), and it feels OK in my hand. Overall, I still like using this phone primarily because of the call quality, but without the Bluetooth connection, it is only partly successful.

Title: Inferior audio recording quality
Review: I bought this VTech answering system from Amazon to replace my old General Electric 29869 unit, which finally broke down in 2019 after serving me well for about twenty years. It was a mistake.I had no intention of using the handset – the VTech VA17241BK was to be used on a split line with a Panasonic KX-TS880 landline phone. My only interests in it were to be able to screen incoming phone calls and record those that I missed.I had no major problem with the way the VA17241BK screened my incoming calls – its speaker audio was clear enough to understand. My only complaint in this regard is that it didn't quite go loud enough.However, I had major problems with the way the VA17241BK played back recorded calls. The audio quality of the built-in memory on the unit is very poor. Examples: a caller left a message for me with a phone number to call her back at, but one of the digits in it was impossible to understand clearly. A different caller left me a different message where her name sounded like it was “Brock”, but when I spoke to her later it was actually “Brooke.” This is the kind of message recording audio quality you can expect from the VA17241BK.I discovered this major defect too late to be able to return my VA17241BK to Amazon for a refund – I had mistakenly thought the substandard audio quality was due to either poor landline phone connections or wireless signals from callers that very briefly dropped out of receiving range. A quick phone call from another landline number very close to my own finally showed me where the real problem was: the VA17241BK itself.There was a time when audio memory was very limited (and very expensive) in solid-state technology, but that was long ago. If General Electric could do it right back in 1999 with their 29869 phone answering system (and they did), why can’t VTech do it right with theirs in 2019? What good is an answering machine if you can’t understand at least part of the messages its callers leave on it?Summary: buy the VTech VA17241BK at your own risk.
