Title: Really easy to use
Review: My computer was dying and I'm tired of the hassle of transferring files to a new computer, so I decided to try a network storage device to move everything to instead. This made is really easy to switch to a new computer and still keep all of my old files without transferring them ALL to the new computer.I wasn't sure what to expect with this device with so many bad reviews, however I am pleased to report that it has worked wonderfully for me and would like to give a positive review. My house has wired ethernet throughout so I was able to just plug this into the router and have a 1Gbit connection from my computer to this device.I also bypassed the installation software by simply adding this as a UPnP device on Windows, which isn't really even be necessary to do but I want to have it listed in devices in case there are any connectivity issues people have mentioned. That may help me see if it has fallen off or not.Adding the device reports the IP address you can navigate to in the browser and there you can do a full configuration. I'm pleasantly surprised by the configuration ability and I actually like the interface, which is rare since most web interfaces are way too dumbed down. I was able to very easily update the firmware to the latest version.You can add a "Share" and users, then specify each user access to each share. Each share has the individual ability to be a DLNA share to watch movies, look at pictures, and listen to music from if you have a device that supports that.After configuring how I wanted it, I simply mapped a network drive to my own private share and began transferring data to it. Then I setup my new computer, mapped the drive again, and transferred over the files I actually wanted on my computer.If i experience any of the connectivity issues that others experience, I'll update my review.UPDATEI did experience what appeared to be a connectivity issue, but it turned out to be that the device goes into sleep mode and seems not to wake up quickly. This is probably why people have experienced issues, since that feature is on be default.I disabled power saving mode and never had another issue.

Review: WD MY CLOUD IS A EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCT. AFTER BEING DESTROYED BY HACKERS MY PERSONAL, BUSINESS, FINANCIAL AND ALL FILES WERE BROADCAST ON DIFFERENT FORUMS FOR HACKERS (THIEVES). THEY EVEN DESTROYED MY LAPTOP. THOUGH I USED AN ONLINE SERVICE THAT TOO WAS HACKED. THEY EVEN HACKED ROBOFORM.MY WD CLOUD WAS VERY EASY TO INSTALL AND WORKS FLAWLESSLY. I DO NOT HAVE TO KEEP IT ON EXCEPT TO SEND MY FILES AND THE FILES ARE TRANSFERRED QUICKLY. I WILL NEVER USE ANY INSTALLED PASSSWORD DEVICE SUCH AS ROBOFORM WHICH WAS HACKED WITH EASE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH BEING HACKED FOR OVER A YEAR AND WE STILL ARE NOT FINISHED NOR WILL WE OVERCOME THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE THIEVES AND MY ATTITUDE AND IGNORANCE I HAD ABOUT SECURITY BEFORE BEING DESTROYED.I SUGGEST BUYING AN EXTERNAL DRIVE, GREAT SECURITY SOFTWARE AND NEVER EVER KEEP FILES ON YOU COMPUTER HARD DRIVE. MY LAPTOP WAS A HIGH END HP AND FOR MANY MONTHS HP, OTHERS COULD NOT FIND THE VIRUS. IT TURNED OUT TO BE IN MY PARTITION THAT I USED TO RESET MY LAPTOP BACK TO FACTORY SETTINGS. ADDITIONALLY, THE VIRUS DID ITS WORK VERY SLOW, LITTLE BY LITTLE SO YOU WOULD NOT KNOW THEY HAD YOU. IT ALSO SET DORMANT FOR SOMETIME BEFORE IT EVEN OPENED. WE FIGURED 2 MONTHS.THE WD MY CLOUD EXTERNAL DRIVE IS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE WITH MANY FEATURES THAT YOU WILL ONLY FIND WITH THE ONLINE BACKUP SERVICES. SUPPORT IS EXCEPTIONAL AND VERY EASY TO ACCESS. Review: So this NAS seems like a good deal, and from the perspective of size and redundancy, it is. However, it has a serious issue with serving the actual files. At times, this thing takes too long to spin up and respond to file requests which causes impatience with the user. It may lock up the file or the computer for a couple of minutes at a time. If you wait, it usually comes back to life. Also, we had to connect via an Ethernet cable as there seems to be a problem with the long response times from the unit and the wifi protocols. It regularly showed locked files when no had the file open. We often had to open the file read only and save as something else then delete the old file. Too many quirks! Looks like I'm going to have to buy another more tested device to use in my small business. This might be ok for simply backing up you files if you don't have to access it often or by multiple users.Edit: After taking to heart the information of another reviewer regarding settings, I adjusted the settings to turn off all energy saving modes and now the drive functions as expected. don't have any lost connections or delays accessing the drive. Happy now.
