Title: Still a marvelous book for children.
Review: The book was good when it was first published. it is still a wonderful story many years later. Age range would be 8-12 years. It reads well for parents to share. There are no offending passages in the book. Compassion for animals abounds!

Title: Finally I found a good and beautiful book for my child
Review: It’s hard to find good books for kids with beautiful illustrations nowadays. My friend suggested this book to me and I am so happy about it, because i spent hours of looking for good books in English and there was nothing beautiful and useful. 99% of the modern books are trash. Poor kids.

Title: This completes my James Herriot collection!
Review: Born an animal lover, I read James Herriot's first four books in the 70's from middle through high school in Taiwan. Yes, Those books were translated into Chinese and James Herriot was quite popular among book lovers there. I came to the United States in 1987 and since then, I bought and re-read all his books in English. I discovered so many aspects of his writing could not be precisely translated into another language, nevertheless his love and affection for all living thing are universal. Later, I watched and collected some of the BBC adaptation and had to admit that even though they were fine production, they left you with little imagination. I still prefer the books and the audio CD's narrated by Christopher Timothy. Christopher Timothy's interpretation was very good on film, but even better on CD's.When the book "James Herriot's Treasury for children" came out, I could not think of a better way to introduce my nieces and my daughter to James Herriot's writing and the animals around him. The children love the stories and illustrations. But no matter how hard I tried, I could never be good at imitating the Yorkshire farmer's accent.When I found that an audio version of this book was available through Amazon, I was very excited the thought this would complete my James Herriot collection. However, I was puzzled that Christopher Timothy did not narrate this book. Not knowing Jim Dale's previous work, I was skeptical about the quality of his narration. Now I am glad that I was wrong.Christopher Timothy has been wonderful with all his work, but I think Jim Dale is more suitable for this book whose target audience are mostly children. There is so much feeling and emotion in his voice that makes the stories even more captivating than they already were. While listening to "The Christmas Day Kitten", I found myself sobbing at the end of story as if I had lost my own pet.James Herriot's books combine good story-telling, passion and kindness to every living thing. This book will do just that for your children. The audio CD will simply add more magic to his stories.

Review: This book was a treasure from the moment we set eyes on it on Christmas morning. It is so beautiful, high quality, generous and beautifully illustrated and written. It is a thing of beauty and my children were so enraptured by the lovely, gentle, joyful tales that my 4 year old girl and 7 year old boy begged for it every night at bedtime. Every night we read another story until it was finished. Truly the best book I have ever bought my children. It is charming and will fill your children with love, happiness and peace, as well as many laughs.

Review: I havent come across any book as wonderful as this which talks of animals and their stories..and these are not fictions..but true stories penned by the Veterinary doctor practicing in Scotland countryside. The stories are of farm animals like cats and dogs and horse and ship and pig. Each story is narrated very well to depict the character of each animal without any jargon.And what to say about marvelous illustrations of this book. There is not a single page without illustration. Rather the stories are written on illustrated pages. The illustrations very well show the countryside Scotland which seems very similar to rural India of farms and animals. Each page is a vibrant imagery. Both the illustrators have their own different style. The book has a very grand size. You would feel like a photo album..like a memoir someone had made.You would surely love this book for yourself and your kids.This review is for hardcover edition by St. Martin's Griffin (ISBN : 978-1250058133)
