Title: The Million Word Crossword Dictionary [Kindle Edition]
Review: This review is for the The Million Word Crossword Dictionary [Kindle Edition], Published November 9, 2010, ASIN: B003VIWO0W,as used with the Kindle 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology being sold as of July 23, 2011. I am specific about the version of the Kindle and dictionary because I believe reviews posted prior to the publication date are not applicable to this combination of dictionary and Kindel. This combination of dictionary and Kindel works exactly as you would want it to. It searches only on the clues/headings whereas earlier ones also searched through the possible answers. Possible matches for the clue you are typing in are displayed as you type. Sometimes you can save some typing and just cursor up to the clue you want.July 22, 2011 I went into a competitor store and tried their competing hardware and applicable version of this same dictionary and was unable to complete a search for a word of only four letters. After two minutes of searching it gave up and went to the screen saver. The clerk told me it was searching all the text in the book.My wife works with this several hours each day. She has used the hard copy of the dictionary for many years. She says this is quicker and easier. Easier on her crippled hands too. We are blessed to have it.

Title: refreshing - turns a crossword puzzle into a scavenger hunt
Review: I got this as s gift for someone who loves crossword puzzles. Personally, I don't care for them. I usually get about 4 words in and then get frustrated. A week later, I saw the book and a crossword puzzle book lying on the table and thought, "how much can a dictionary help if you don't know the first few letters?"First of all, it's not really a dictionary. The words don't have definitions, just a list of related words sorted by length. It's closer to a thesaurus than a dictionary, except that it also has pop culture references, sports players, actors, slang words, and all sorts of phrases you might see in a crossword clue.Second of all, it helps a LOT. Sometimes you can look up the clues verbatim and see the answer listed. These ones feel kinda like cheating and aren't much fun. Most of the time, though, you have to be a little bit clever in what you look up. Sometimes you'll find the answer on the third word, sometimes on the tenth. Either way, the book gives you clues and ideas to bounce off of.Solving crossword puzzles without this book is like a trivia contest; you either know it or you don't. Solving them with the book is like a scavenger hunt; you'll keep hunting for clues until you figure it out.Bottom line: it's not for everyone. Diehard trivia fans will probably see this as a crutch and possibly enjoy crossword puzzles less while using it. For people like me, who weren't huge crossword fans to begin with, this book brings a very welcome change of pace.

Title: Need a small crane to lift it
Review: My 87-yr-old-mom loves crosswords, and she has been using an old, small paperback crossword dictionary that is on its last leg. So I bought her this nice big one. I was hoping the print would be a little larger, and it weighs a ton, but she LOVES IT. She is so taken by the wealth of information in it that she sits down and "reads it" like a book. This is a great gift for any crossword addict, but do keep in mind that the print is quite small and it is not easy to carry around for a person who walks with a cane or is not physically strong.

Title: Best crossword dictionary on the market probably
Review: I've used this dictionary ever since I first saw it in 2004. I work NY Times Sunday crosswords exclusively, and can't work them without it. I own Merriam Webster's regular dictionary, its biographical dictionary, its one-volume encyclopedia, and its geographical dictionary, and yet this one volume, the MW Crossword Dictionary, just about takes the place of all of them. I would suggest to its authors only that they work on a TWO million, or THREE million word upgrade. The crossword creators are getting slyer and sneakier, and we need ever bigger dictionaries of this type. One area they could improve is the list of Scottish words. Another is in foreign words and phrases. (Will somebody please come out with a Scottish dictionary? Or a dictionary of rivers and mountains? Sorry, where was I.) Where it is super helpful is with movies, books and authors, and personalities; nowhere else comes close. Also it is a big help with rivers and cities near rivers. I wish it were twice as big as it is, though, simply because it is already so very very good it makes me want more of it. If you buy this book, you will still need your Almanacs, your expensive world atlases, your mythology books, and your Stars and Planets; and you will still need all your foreign dictionaries. And you will need your ability to figure out puns and tricky clues that are deliberately misleading -- no dictionary can solve those. You need your brain for that. But if you have to travel, or if you were on a deserted island with just one book to help you, this book, the MW Crossword Dictionary, is the one you will want along with you. One last word -- buy the hardback. You will wear out the paperback.

Title: A million words you don’t need.
Review: The cover was irritating to the touch. Once past the cover, the book is filled with 3/4 million of proper names mostly unusable for the average puzzle.

Review: As a cryptic crossword devotee, I find this dictionary invaluable. It is well-laid out with all the words listed in order of the number of letters in them. It also contains songs and who sings them and films and who stars in them as well as geographical information - all of which is so useful. It is great having it on my Kindle as the hard copy is so big to carry with you when you're going away.

Review: 父親が英文のクロスワードに熱中しているのでプレゼントしました。大変に喜ばれました。本書はキーワードに関連する英単語が載っています。例えば、JAPANでひいてみると、日本に関連する色々な単語が載っています。そこから、外国人が日本について連想する事が色々と分かって面白いです。従って、単にクロスワードパズル用として使う以上に関連する語彙を勉強するのに便利で面白く勉強できます。
