Dionne Warwick marks the 50th anniversary of the release of her first Billboard hit single - Don t Make Me Over - with the release of a special new album NOW which reunites her with the legendary creative team of Burt Bacharach, Hal David and Phil Ramone. NOW was recorded in New York City from March to May of this year with Phil Ramone, the engineer behind Warwicks recordings, on production duties. The album features a selection of classic Warwick / Bacharach / David hits together with some of their finest lesser known songs from the past. Perhaps most excitingly, the album also features four brand new songs.

Title: Miss Warwick had it Then, Miss Warwick has it Now
Review: What can I say? Miss Warwick is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of being in the music industry and this album does that milestone and her legend justice. Each track displays her voice as warm and in control as ever. What beautiful orchestration as well. I would say Always Something to Remind me is actually an improvement on the original. Are you there with another girl has a maturity that just makes it seem better. A fresh reteaming with old collaborator Burt Bacharach produced, Love is the Answer and it's worthy of any of their best teamings. Another reteaming with a former collaborator in the form of Hal David, produced a hauntingly beautiful vidid piece that is possibly her best work in many years. The track Be Aware comes a little too close to one of those songs that veers way too close to being on the self righteous, beautifully sung though. Reach Out, I would say is an improvement on the original as well. Is there anybody out there, has many under and overtones to some of Miss Warwick's smoky numbers from the early 1980's, with that rich warm voice and tight phrasing. I just have to breath positively has a palpable feeling of regret of lost loves, relationships and loss. Once again the orchestration is beautiful and she brings every proper emotion to being resigned to a situation that has changed. A tearjerker, but a real winner. The love song It was almost like a song, is one that will hit a chord to anyone who has had a relationship that has ended and it still hurts. One gets the feeling Miss Warwick is singing from experience but of course she is a total pro so who knows? Make it easy on yourself is without a doubt an improvement lacking the overpowering background vocalsof the original. The ethos and the maturity and power she now has in her voice gives the song more substance. The last track is the immortal Bacharach-David, I Say a Little Prayer. Miss Warwick handles it with her usual authority and does it with aplomb. Interestingly it done as a duet with her son David Elliott who is also in the music business. Simply this is Miss Warwick's best album in many years. It's a must have. Some people just get better with time and Dionne is one of them. Go get your copy. Trust me.

Title: A classy masterpiece.
Review: She may be a bit more throaty, but Warwick still has one of the most distinctive pop-cabaret voices ever. And what better collection of material to showcase that voice than a sampling of the Burt Bacharach - Hal David songs she’s inhabited for the prior 50 years? For the most part, Warwick wisely skips redoing her catalog of Bacharach-David hits, selecting some of their lesser known material, thus avoiding the inevitable comparisons between Warwick at 71 vs. Warwick at 21. Now… opens with “Always Something There to Remind Me,” which was an ‘83 synth-and-Syndrum smash for one-hit wonder Naked Eyes, but which was also a minor hit for Warwick, Sandie Shaw, and J.B. Greaves, respectively, all in the ‘60s. (Bacharach got around!) Warwick’s Now... remake, though a fourth lower in key, has more drive than her original ’68 reading. Hal David and Albert Hammond’s haunting “99 Miles to LA” is perfectly cast by Warwick, her warm alto giving the song’s cosmopolitan chording a palpable yearning. “Reach Out for Me” is an airy message of hope and assurance, of which Warwick is a master. But -- there’s always a but -- Warwick’s duet of “I Say a Little Prayer,” with her eldest son David Elliott, is a difficult listen at best. While the two vocals are spot-on with synced harmonies, the new vocal arrangement yanks the listener through so many tempo changes, as lyrics are given either a molasses drip or a Good-n-Plenty scattering, that the song’s original message is forgotten. Skip this track, and you have one classy masterpiece.

Title: Songs that become a legend most!
Review: I stumbled across this cd in July 2013 missing any hype for it's release to be aware of from 2012. If you ever liked Dionne buy it! It's a lovely album to hear in it's entirety and Dionne's song styling every bit as valid as it ever was to hear against current productions at the hands of genius. Timing alone to have this become a magnificent release to have had Phil Ramone and Hal David involved and the quality and artistry of such songs like 99 miles just a reminder of why everyone involved of legend status. Why our culture does not nurture the arts to allow industry support for our living legends to create and evolve with the wisdom of years and voice, I will never understand. I was concerned this a re-hash of old hits, but it is worth hearing such gems without the dated fashion of the times, but as compositions worthy of a superstar to muse new vocal nuances. Burt Baccarach should have every female singer worth their salt vying for his songs to interpret and legends like Dionne and the likes of Olivia Newton-John (who covered "Alfie" and "Anyone who had a heart" flawlessly with Phil Ramone on her Indigo album), Diana Ross, Joni Mitchell, Linda Rondstadt and even Pat Benatar and Debbie Harry who where great voices of their genre should have forever formats to create and not get lost to have their voices heard. My review a soapbox I know, but singers should sing....and their artistry a gift. I want more artistry and opportunity for art for our still valid vocalists....and buying their cds to support such efforts the way to let it known they are relevant to music lovers. 5 stars as it's an album fitting of a legend to be more about great first. Brava.

Title: Dionne Warwick's Music Today
Review: At the age of 66, I have "always" loved Dionne Warwick. This CD is awesome. Obviously her voice is different than 30 years ago, but I actually prefer it a lot. Today, Ms. Warwick's voice has a beautiful richness that cannot be beat, and her vocal control is better than ever. And, the musicians play in perfect harmony with her voice. If you like Dionne Warwick, I highly recommend this new album - you will find it relaxing and peaceful and simply a beautiful voice. God, I love Dionne Warwick.

Review: Bravissima Dionne Warwick, nel suo stile, anche se io preferirei un pò più "swing" in alcuni brani

Review: Dionne can still sing, but this kinder, gentler version doesn't have the fresh emotion of the originalks, nor the smooth rendering called for in some of these Bacharach/David compostions. If anything, it brings to light just how great those originals were.

Review: I like the change in dionne,s voice now that she is over 70, but feel this album is a bit mean in being so short on new material. Also the arrangements are not as compelling as previously. However, anyone who can spare the money, is a fan of dionne's, has a heart ! and has the spare cash should add it to their collection.

La prima “99 Miles From L.A.” è stata musicata da Albert Hammond, mentre la musica della seconda , “It Was Almost Like A Song” è stata composta da Archie Jordan ed è anche una delle più belle dell’intero disco.Tra le canzoni di Bacharach che Djonne va voluto reinterpretare ci sono “(There’s) Always Something There To remind Me”, “Don’t Make Me Over”, “Make It Is On Yourself” e “I say A Littlke Prayer”, cantata in duetto con David Elliott.
