The Rheem Perfomance RTEX-08 is an 8 kW tankless electric water heater ideal for point-of-use applications. This unit is great for a point-of-use application, Rheem tankless electric water heaters offer a continuous, endless supply of hot water. A lower kilowatt unit can provide hot water on demand for single or multiple point-of-use applications while a higher kilowatt unit could provide hot water for a whole house depending on the inlet ground water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters save space, save energy, save money, and require no venting. The sleek, compact size, 90 percent smaller than a tank, allows you to save space and place the unit wherever you want, including under a sink. Tankless units only draw energy when hot water is flowing, while traditional tanks are constantly drawing energy to keep the water in the tank at the desired temperature.
ON/OFF Dial Control with adjustable digital temperature display
Self-modulating power control
8kW Model Flow Rate: up to 1.95 GPM
Side 1/2" NPT water connections
On demand; continous hot water

Title: I have Taken a shower with this
Review: I have a coal wood boiler, I have a indirect water heater and a domestic coil in it. 6-7 months out of the year I didn't need the tank water heater and I would just keep it on and feed the boilers hot water (makes 130-150 degree water). It no longer made sense to pay for the ridiculous cost to keep the old water heater in use. It is October and the boiler is off and I took a shower on a 1.25 gpm shower head, I could tell no difference. Water coming in is 55 degrees, however the ambience of the basement heats the 40 gallon indirect water heater and boiler at around 68. These slightly warmer temps help even if the system is off, factor that in to your equation. Some adviceinstall a 1 micron water filter before the unit, these only fail because calcium or sediment cakes and cooks the unit. This is still a problem for tank heaters as calcium deposits will burn up heating elements in the tank units also. Hard water is significantly reduced by whole house filter, I have had my water tested before and after I installed them years ag0o. I have a 80 percent reduction in calcium and almost entirely reduced sediment. My solution is 5micron washable-5 micron carbon disposable-1micron activated carbon disposable- 1/2 micron disposable. I have a strainer in front of the tankless. The filter setup is more reliable and cheaper than a water softener. If you have a water softener you still need a filter before the tankless unit.It makes no sense today not to have a lower flow shower head, It takes zero adjustment to the lower flow and the shower head saves cost on hot water. Lower flow shower head will make all the difference on saving money with this application. The unit uses a special compression fitting that is supplied with the unit and make sure its properly put together.

Title: Died after 3 months, Warranty is a joke!
Review: This is our third Rheem small electric water heater. It is for an outdoor shower and a garage sink. The first one BLEW UP just out of warranty! Amazon asked them to replace it for us and they did. The second one lasted 8 years. When it gave up we went to Amazon to replace it and they recommended this newer product. We bought it in Sept. 2023 and it stopped heating in late November 2023. When we finally were directed to the right people on the phone we were sent a15 page PDF and told to troubleshoot it ourselves and if the the Thermistors and Heating Elements were faulty they would send new parts and we would have to install them ourselves. The warranty on the heating element said 5 years but that do-it-yourself is NO Warranty at all! Three months! if they don't have people on the ground to work on them they should be refunded or replaced after such a short amount of time.

Title: My RTE 9 has been working for over 6 years but replacement quit on 12-4-2023-3 yrs 5 months 12 days
Review: I got this to replace my RTE 9 that has been working fine for over 6 years since I installed it back on 11-1-2013 when I got rid of my propane tank. So I decided to just have this new water heater on hand whenever the RTE 9 quits working. Well the RTE-9 quit working on 6-16-2020. So it lasted 6 years and 7 months. So, I installed the RTEX-08. I quit working on 12-4-2023. So, it lasted 3 years, 5 months and 12 days. I bought a replacement RTEX-08 and will got it on Wed, 12-6-2023. So I downgraded my rating to 4 stars. I also left a message with tech support. Perhaps some internal part could be replaced, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not unhappy with performance, just thought it would last longer than 3.5 years.,So I got rid of my propane water heater shown in the first photo. In the second photo the green double breaker in the upper right is a 30 amp 240 volt breaker for the electric dryer plug. I don't have an electric dryer so I removed this breaker and just tied it out of the way. I replaced it with a 240 volt 40 amp breaker in order to run the tankless hot water heater. There was a knockout in the upper right. The water closet is right behind this electric panel. There is only a sheet of drywall behind the electric panel. Only three wires to connect. Two wires to the breaker and a bare copper ground wire to the panel on the right. So the three feet of electric wire already attached to the water heater itself is all that I needed. The third photo shows the RTE 9 connected. I used SharkBite push to connect plumbing connectors. The work with both PEX and copper. I adjust the water temp all the way up in the winter when I'm taking a shower. Otherwise I have the temp dialed back a little. So I only run my hot water faucet almost all of the time without running both hot and cold at the same time. I live in a 14 foot by 52 foot singlewide by myself so this is a whole house water heater for me. I am really pleased. Consumer Reports said that tankless hot water heaters can clog but after more than 6 years I'm pleased with how this tankless water heater is working for me. Once it passed the 6 years mark I decided to just get another one and have it ready to go when the time inevitably comes and the old one quits working.

Title: Great small heater, but learn from my mistakes
Review: Great little water heater. I'm using it for a small studio apt. It's powering a shower, bathroom sink, and a kitchen sink. Word of warning: We thought there was a ghost in the wall because it would heat the water perfectly until the shower came on. Then it went to nothing. We did a ton of problem solving on this unit and were about to bust down the wall to make sure the shower was piped properly. Turned out that turning the output valve down to about half fixed all of our problems. You can either use a flow limiter OR just turn the output valve down.Note: the 8w unit is BARELY enough to keep the shower going. It works, but can not heat water for anything else at the same time as the shower. If you can go for the slightly larger unit, I would highly suggest if you're doing much more than just powering a sink. I would have in retrospect, but would have to re-do the electric.

Review: Our Small bunkie at our cottage was updated and we installed this unit to replace a old school 40 gallon tank. The old tank took up some valuable space which once removed allowed us to expand our shower. The new unit is so small. I had it installed by a electrician and I did the plumbing which was easy. We have one vanity sink and one shower in the bunkie. I was a bit concerned that it wouldnât give is the water temp we wanted but it actually works perfectly.I bought this as a reconditioned unit from Amazon and saved some $, it was basically brand new in the box.

Review: Did NOT work as presented in the description. I had this product installed as a dedicated single SHOWER water heater. It was positioned less than 24-inches from a single shower head. I chose the 240 volt version of a tankless heater thinking it would be more powerful when we had multiple guests who could shower without the delay caused by the home's 40-gallon tank heater, which needed an hour to recharge with hot water. What a waste of money, installation expenses and time for this tankless water heater.I have had several Rheem tank heaters over many years that performed wonderfully, so I assumed I would get the same sterling experience in their tankless product. Major letdown. Then, because of Covid-19 restrictions, I was unable to schedule an electrician or plumber to install this Rheem tankless water heater in Amazon's required time period to request a refund. Then Amazon promised a reply to my refund request in 48-hours and I never heard from Amazon again.I tried cranking down the "hot water outflow valve" to the shower head as one user/purchaser recommended, but it resulted in a trickle flow of water that was useless for a shower. Pathetic product, a waste of money ($400 Canadian dollars) and frustrating experience all around.

Review: 8K unit is not large enough. I would highly suggest going as big as possible. 8k unit does not heat the water enough to call it "hot"
Customers say
Customers like the ease of installation and size of the water heater. They mention it fits under the kitchen sink nicely. However, some customers have reported that the water doesn't get hot enough to warm any body. Opinions are mixed on its functionality.
