Title: Essential for you Library
Review: I love this book. Since it is not a method book, the goal is not to teach you how to play. (Mair covers that in her "Complete Mandolinist"). But if you can play this book will show you how to play better. It is organizes in a fashion that will keep you focused on what the author is saying. The broad range of topics provide plenty of useful bits for any mandolinist, novice to advanced. It explores the connections between technique and artistic expression, mechanics and musicianship, and listening and literacy. The simple ideas addressed have profound implications for our musical development.Online recordings provide additional illustrations of these concepts. There is a appendix of valuable pieces for out practice routine or performance repertoire. This volume is an essential addition to be included in the library of every mandolinist.

Title: Take your playing to the next level
Review: No matter how long you have been playing mandolin, there is always room to improve your technique and musicality. Eminently readable and insightful, Marilynn Mair's new technique book- The 100- can help you do just that. Even though I have been playing for decades, Mair's book invites me to view familiar techniques with a fresh eye. The exercises she offers are a wonderful warm up to my regular practice sessions, and her very specific notes on technique are easily incorporated into my playing. Like many mandolinists, I have struggled with very particular technical trouble spots over the years and this book hones in on exactly those types of issues. I think players at many different skill levels will benefit from this book. If you are also in the market for a method book, check out Mair's Complete Mandolinist.

Review: As a mandolin teacher, I've been looking for a book without tab for teaching students. I was hoping this would be the exception. It's not.

Title: Polish your playing...
Review: I bought a copy of this at Marilynn's summer camp AMGuSS. It is as advertised in the description. Full of techniques and exercises for dealing with music trouble spots...physically and mentally. As good music is so much more than playing notes. I'm 1/3 of the way through and can hear and feel my playing becoming more...musical!The two star review, if still here, is as ridiculous as it sounds. Not a review of the material. More of a comment on an ill informed purchase (easily remedied by customer service).

Title: great collection of info
Review: i've been working my way thru this book thru the summer and each page has clear guidance and a new eye-opening challenge. I continue to add new ideas to my practice plan and to how I can develop “my sound.” A better book for a beginning student would be Ms. Mair's mandolin method book, The Complete Mandolinist, which is also a great resource for advancing players. Using these two books together is a great way to improve one's playing.

Title: Print is too light...how do you say eye strain?
Review: Your eyes will be strained trying to read this book. It appears that they printed it on draft print.... very light...some letters you have to guess what the word is.
