Title: SO DISAPPOINTED COUNTERWEIGHT DOESN'T WORK, NEEDLE SKATES ACROSS THE RECORD, WON'T PLAY
Review: I looked for a long time for a good record player. Based on good reviews I ordered and received today. I can't get it to play, the needle just skates across the record, also damaging it, as soon as I put the needle on it to play. It just glides all the way across the record. I have tried everything. It appears the counterweight isn't working, either. There is no tension change if I turn it. I'm so unhappy. I thought I had found a good player based on reviews. It does not work at all and has damaged a record. I've been trying to get this to work for over an hour and now I have a sacrificial record that will have problems from the repeated skating across the entire record instead of playing. Someone else here gave a one star review also saying the counterweight doesn't work.

Title: Works surprisingly well
Review: My dad passed in 2018 and left me a 1970s vintage record player but its huge and several states away. I have been reluctant to ship it but i wanted to be able to play records for my little ones over the holidays. This is my first time trying one of these compact desktop style players but it did not disappoint. Surprisingly loud and clear. Only thing is i put a 45 on with he clamp and it sounded like a chipmunk singing, so i removed the clamp and changed it to 33 setting. Now it sounds perfect. Could be a fluke.
