Title: The Legend Grows
Review: It's all about the voice.Eva Cassidy has the most compelling voice in "popular" music even though, tragically, she has been dead for almost 4 years. This is an obvious "must buy" for those of us who know her music. You will not be disappointed at all in these 12 new offerings, pulled from her archives, some reworked and filled out to show off her awesome talent at its finest. If you have never heard her this is a good introduction because of the inclusion of several "pop/rock" titles that are more easily recognized than much of Eva's music. Regardless, her music cannot be recommended highly enough. With each release of posthumous material, Eva Cassidy's legend as one of the greatest singers of all time continues to grow.Eva's music once again defies categorization into a neat, tidy, marketable "style" that makes it easy to sell millions of CDs to the general public. Pop standards, ballads, blues, folk, rock and gospel are all include in this release. The common thread, or style, in her music has been and always will be her incredible ability to communicate volumes of emotion and feeling in the simplest and briefest of songs with her amazingly expressive, beautifully haunting voice. Eva could have sung the Yellow Pages with just her guitar accompanying her and made it an unforgettable experience. Every tune sounds like she is singing to only one person, opening her soul and letting you look inside at her deepest feelings. The title cut, a Cyndi Lauper hit from the 80's, much like her version of "Fields of Gold", has been masterfully transformed into Eva's song, totally reworked from the original, and much more powerful and soul searching. The same can be said for "Kathy's Song" by Paul Simon, "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers and "Woodstock" by Joni Mitchell(most notably performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young). All were powerful, beautiful songs when they were on the pop charts, but Eva took them to a new level, pouring her heart and soul into a most personal version of each tune."At Last", an old standard, shows us a sultry, smokey Eva, effortlessly singing in a bluesy, soulful style about finally getting her man, but tinged with a bittersweet melancholy that often is found in her ballads, as if she knows that one little victory in life doesn't necessarily erase the pain of past lost loves."Penny To My Name" has a country-tinged flavor, the sweet and poignant story of a young girl forced to grow up way too early and wondering "what if...?". "I Wish I Was A Single Girl Again" has a similar theme, but is done in a delta blues style, just Eva and her guitar."Easy Street Dream" carries the blues theme along, Eva really opening up and exercising her voice, wailing, shouting, screaming, like only she can."Anniversary Song" is another "production number", beautifully utilizing a string quintet , that is going to be played at many, many weddings and anniversary celebrations. This is Eva at her balladic best, "just you and me", making you smile and cry in the same phrase, her warm, tender voice wrapping itself around every note.My only complaint is that most of the songs are too short! Each song ends with you wishing there were two or three more verses for her to sing. An outstanding CD by an incredible artist.

Title: Ladies and Gentlemen--the extraordinary Eva Cassidy
Review: Everyone who loves her has a story of how they discovered Eva Cassidy. I happened to be reading the news on an Internet web site one day a couple of weeks ago and was intrigued to read the headline, "Dead Singer's Records Selling Like Crazy." After reading the story, I did some research on Cassidy and decided to take the plunge and order three of her CDs. "Time After Time," the most professionally-done in sound and in look, includes Eva's covers of some immortal tunes: Paul Simon's "Kathy's Song," Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," and Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock," to name just a few.How to describe this extraordinary singer? I can't think of any singer who sounds like HER, although Eva's voice occasionally shows flashes of other singers' styles. On the gorgeous, yearning "At Last," Cassidy's vibrato mirrors the butterfly shimmer of Phoebe Snow--on Harlan Howard's brief and bittersweet "I Wish I Was A Single Girl Again," Cassidy has the throaty growl of Teri Thornton. No song seems beyond her capabilities. Her voice goes from heartbreakingly fragile to taunting to saucy to brimming with pain in a heartbeat. There isn't a dud on this album, nor on the other three I bought. My four-year old daughter has already proclaimed Eva her favorite singer. I have to say that I have nearly arrived at that opinion myself.

Title: Songs We Remember, But Not This Way
Review: Originally, I purchased the album because it had a version of "Time after Time" on it. At the moment I am collecting different versions. Then I put the album on, and when I heard her sing "Kathy's Song" originally by Simon and Garfunkle, I literally started to cry.And the next song was "Ain't No Sunshine" which I have done by Boney James, Jose Feliciano, DMX, Ray Charles and several others. The album is so well crafted, it is like drinking 500 year old cognac. The smoothness, the feeling of serenity that it gives, especially with songs that are mostly familiar is just too much to pass up.I recommend it to anyone who likes emotional music done in a purely humanistic manner. Eva has created a true masterpiece with this album.

Title: CASSIDY'S MUSIC DOES MORE THAN "LINGER ON"; IT IS GIVEN NEW LIFE
Review: Eva Cassidy had an astonishing ability to re-create the music sung -- making old songs fresh, while retaining as much, or even more meaning than they had before. No one who loves popular music should own less than three or four of her albums/CDs. It is sad that she passed away so young; but her legacy will continue to inspire other artists, and make this man very, very happy that it was recorded.

Title: NOT TO BE MISSED
Review: I will review CDs by Eva all day and all night. The angelic lady who had the uncanny gift and ability to get your adrenalin pumping by belting out a powerful version of Aretha's Chain of Fools and subsequently turn a grown man into a sobbing and totally vulnerable version of his former self with a slow and heartfelt number like Autumn Leaves. (Note: the two mentioned songs are not on this CD, am merely making a point.)The other & main point is: makes no difference what she sings. It's all good.
