The daughter of a diplomat disappears on a school field trip—lured into the Santa Monica Mountains and killed in cold blood. Her father denies the possibility of a political motive. There are no signs of struggle and no evidence of sexual assault, leaving psychologist Alex Delaware and his friend LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis to pose the essential question: Why?
“Feverish in pace and rich in characters . . . a chilling and irresistible thriller.”—People
Working with Daniel Sharavi, a brilliant Israeli police inspector, Delaware and Sturgis soon find themselves ensnared in one of the darkest, most menacing cases of their careers. And when death strikes again, it is Alex who must go undercover, alone, to expose an unthinkable conspiracy of self-righteous brutality and total contempt for human life.

Title: Great to listen to!
Review: Great story for a long road trip with my husband! Downloaded to my Kindle and connected to a Bluetooth speaker so we could both listen. This was an earlier story from the Alex Delaware series.

Title: Another good book Buy a good writer
Review: Reading a book About Milo and Alex is like visiting with old friends. Their relationship is fascinating because they are polar opposites and yet somehow it works. I always enjoy a visit with them.

Title: complicated and fascinating
Review: Such great characters! Lots of intrigue, with guys who appear to be straight arrows - but are they? This was one of the most convoluted plots of any Jonathan Kellerman book Iâve read, and kept my brain firing to the very end.

Title: survival of the fittest
Review: One of his best for suspense and difficulty guessing the ending. I am usually pretty good at that but he gave nothing away until he wanted to.

Title: Diverting thriller, involving eugenics, that fails to deliver a knockout punch.
Review: I haven't read a Jonathan Kellerman book in quite a while. Not out of any dislike, but I've been reading other things. Ran across this old Alex Delaware book for a good price on Kindle and picked it up. It's been so long that I don't really remember Kellerman's style. I found it rather long-winded with much extraneous description. Nevertheless, I simply skimmed those sections and tried to stay with the plot. Even there I found he threw in so many characters that I began to lose track. The trail somehow leads Alex and Milo (and their Israeli partner) to investigate and infiltrate a eugenics group. Hence the title, Survival of the Fittest. I found myself saying to myself, at one point, how did they settle upon this as the solution to the killings. I had forgotten what the connection was and it seemed that there was no real evidence and a lot of conclusions were being made on pure suppositions. From there on in, there were no real surprises. The ending threw a slight curve at you but was, for me, disappointing. Yet, lengthy descriptions aside, I found the writing to be okay and the reading to be diverting enough to give this book a so-so rating of three. Until the somewhat disappointing ending, the book had me going just enough to keep on reading.

Title: Death by Motive
Review: Kellerman tells a great story again of a case closer detective and a psychologist who assists in tracking down villains, in this case murderers. Characters are complicated but believable. The plot takes numerous turns but ends with a resolution. The bad characters are not unveiled until well into the plot, often appear as good people until their dark side is revealed. An enjoyable read.

Title: as always these two are dynamite.
Review: The friendships really glue all the pieces of the caper together. Alex throws in the psych solve and together they follow the clues - physical and psychological. Fun to read.

Title:
Review: Survival of the FittestDr Alex Delaware returns in his twelfth adventure and again Kellerman provides evidence as to how he is developing both the characters whilst taking the story into new areas and different scenarios.A young child with disabilities has been murdered and there are no indications as to who did it. It is further complicated by the fact that the childâs father is a diplomat based in Los Angeles. Delawareâs detective side-kick Milo Sturgis is given the poisoned chalice to deal with and immediately asks Delaware for his assistance.Slowly but surely they start to uncover a series of murders across different parts of Los Angeles with the common denominator being that all victims have a disability. Further enquiries lead them into the field of eugenics and a secret group who may be behind the murders. Delaware has to go under cover to infiltrate the group. The plot is further complicated when you throw in the security services from the nation of the bereaved diplomat and the suicide of a young policeman who appeared to have everything to live for.Delaware moves in this story from being an investigative consultant assisting the police to being an undercover operative whose life is on the line. The impact thus has on him both physically and emotionally is quite profound. In addition the consequences it has on both Sturgis and his partner Robyn Castagna are not something he has fully considered. In the case of the latter it establishes fault lines in their relationship that Kellerman chooses not to explore fully in this adventure but leaves the reader with the view that this is something that will be raised and taken forward in the future.Well worth a look.
