Born September 23, 1926 John Coltrane was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions and appeared on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk. Over the course of his career, Coltrane's music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension, as exemplified on his most acclaimed albums A Love Supreme (1965) and Ascension (1966). He remains one of the most influential saxophonists in music history. He received numerous posthumous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize in 2007, and was canonized by the African Orthodox Church. Title: Coltrane!
Review: I just loved every note he played. He and Dr. King died within weeks of each other. I was in basic training at the time, so I remember. A tragic loss.

Title: Eight Albums
Review: What's not to like? Eight great albums or the price of one. Classic jazz. Powerful. My only gripe is some of the engineering mixes are not mixed the way I would do it. When listening through speakers it's fine but listening through headphones the balance is way off. I know back then this effect was common but it doesn't mean I like it. I would prefer to have the instruments blended to both channels, not just one.

Title: The best music for the least money!
Review: I am not going to write an in depth review on the musical content. John Coltrane is universally regarded as a musician and innovator of the highest order. Having this much of his music available at under $12 (at the time of this review) is practically a gift. Coltrane's music can be difficult at times, but much of this collection is quite attractive, and there is a nice "flow" to the program. I probably already own all of these recordings, but I love the convenience of having this compilation. As far as the sound quality, I was concerned that it would be inferior. This doesn't seem to be the case. I haven't yet compared it to my other copies on my main system, but listening to it on my stereo at work (mostly Cambridge audio) it does sound fine. I liked it so much I immediately ordered two more copies for relatives. I highly recommend this CD collection.
