Title: Print version is Original Digest Size - Get Comixology/Kindle Version to Zoom in
Review: I purchased the digital, Comixology version of this book years ago and recently ordered a copy of the print version for my shelf. I discovered that the print version is presented in (the original) 5.5" x 8" digest size, not magazine size as I had wrongly assumed. This makes sense that the original PS magazines would be pocket-sized to be more convenient for troops to carry. The print version is beautifully produced on high quality paper with a canvas-like hardcover. The color and reproduction of the art is excellent and you will enjoy this version of the book. But if you'd like to study Eisner's work more closely, I recommend getting the Comixology version as you can zoom into individual panels and dive deep into the art. It's great for digging into his ink work and to get all the textures of those original printed pages.Either way it is a top-notch collection of unique comics history that you will not be disappointed in picking up!

Title: A hardbound reprint of a military publication
Review: In the early 1950s, the Army was having a problem with the troops not reading nor following directions printed in technical manuals for care and servicing of a multitude of issued materials, from hand tools to Pershing tanks, resulting to waste, loss of efficienct, damage to vital equipment, and outright loss of life. The guys would not (or could not !) read the directions. Enter some brilliant person at the Pentagon....probably an enlisted man...with the idea of putting out a reqular publication encouraging men to use the tech manuals (TMs) and developing a sense of pride and duty in doing so. These were publications along the line of comic books...easily identified by and familliar to many of the troops already! Comic and pulps artist Will Eisner and a team of artists drew these comic manuals. Eisner was also a resident artist for MAD Magazine, at that time becoming more recognized in the American culture! This idea worked. Four comic characters went through all sorts of problems taken from the actual experiences of GIs due to not following the TMs or having gear serviced by such non-readers. Everything from not using a torque wrench as a hammer to why you mix alcohol with water when you swab out the tube of the 90mm gun on a tank during the winter months in Korea. I'm sure lots of guys read this pub just to see the drawings of "Connie Rodd", the pin-up style blonde WAAC (?) babe working with the mechanics and technicians! This technique worked, and the publications were continued for the Army through the 1970s. There was even (though not included here) a comic book style publication on why it was so important to clean your AR-15 (M-16) when it was introduced in SEA in the mid-60s. Too many guys were having weapons jam at the wrong moment in combat. Connie Rodd, or her sister showed the troopers why and how this weapon had to be cleaned differently and better that M-14s, etc. The USNavy did a tangent sort of publication for naval aviation personell, "Grampaw Pettibone" cartoons...but Eisner's "P.S." was the start of them all. Just as the title tells it, here is the best of all the issues collected in a nearly 300 page all color, minimal text collection. Hard bound about 8x10 in size. My issue was in perfect shape and was worth the approximately 4 week wait due to popularity of the book. If the historical period interests you, you follow Eisner works, or you have an M-113 that needs to be lubricated, I recommend this publication...and I'm an aviation minded "airhead", not your better recognized "gearhead"!

Title: Will Eisner: A great and patriotic American...
Review: An encyclopedia entry for this author should start like this:Will Eisner: A great and patriotic American...Beyond being an extremely talented artist and creative thinker, Mr. Eisner is a true patriot. He put his new-born and blossoming business on-hold to serve his country in WWII. In this capacity he began a long, long relationship with the US Armed Forces. For many years his art instructed and (dare I say?) kept alive generations of servicemen (myself included). His 20+ years of work with the PS Magazine is something that was and still is unmatched in terms of a creative relationship with the service. There is no such thing as a "best of" PS Magazine as far as I am concerned (they all were the best of!), but this book is a great sample. From the man who helped greats like Jack Kirby get their starts; the godfather of the graphic novel format; he who turned the Sunday funnies into something special and the creator of The Spirit comes a real slice of Americana. Hats off to you, Mr. Eisner and may you forever rest in eternal peace.P.S. (no pun!) I'd recommend a strong prescription reading glass as the print is somewhat light and very small (in my copy, at least).

Title: Great read
Review: Always enjoyed the ps monthly in the army. I ordered this and it was neat to see how the story hasnât changed from the 50s to today. A lot of helpful info for soldiers who wouldnât read a TM manual which are hard to understand anyway

Title: PS
Review: My Father was a Master Sargeant in the Army Reserve between 1950-1960's. Because I enjoyed reading comic books, he would bring me issues of the PS magazine each month from his reserve camp. I kept my collection until I entered college(1966). I loved the art, stories and education of Army machinery. I sure wish I had kept my collection. This is a good collection of the best of the PS issues.
