Title: Great Book!
Review: I must have about a hundred cookbooks and most cost more than this book - but this is one of the best! I just made the coq au vin and it was fantastic!

Title: No Baking Breads or Desserts?
Review: Seems a good recipe book but no recipes for baked breads or desserts or even quiche? I use my dutch oven mostly for roasting meats, and find a rack an indispensable tool!

Title: This Diverse Cookbook Recognizes The Value Of A Dutch Oven
Review: All I ask from a cookbook is that it offers a few family friendly recipes. One of my favorite ways to cook is using a Dutch oven, so I was hoping Ms. Zimmermanâs latest collection would also incorporate some kid-friendly fare. So far weâve not been disappointed. Thereâs lots in here the kids like, and I like the way the book is thoughtfully laid out. Every single recipe is mentioned under the different chapter headings in the contents section found at the beginning of the book. Instead of searching for a specific food in a back index as is typical of most cookbooks, itâs so much quicker to see whatâs available scanning various chapter topics. For instanceâif youâve got less than an hour to throw something together, itâs easy to peruse the â30-Minute Mealsâ heading, and quickly find something worth making. I highly recommend taking a peek at the âlook insideâ feature to the left of Amazonâs product description to see this cookbookâs entire content listâthe recipes are varied and extensive. I also use those same contents pages in my own cookbook to write in notations after a recipe has been triedâit helps me remember whatâs been made, if there were changes, who liked what, etc. Of course, a traditional index is also included. Some of the recipes were a little too simple for my liking, and I often thought some didnât even require a Dutch oven, particularly the side dishes. An example of that is the Italian Braised Zucchiniâitâs a tasty recipe, but can easily be made in a frying pan. My favorite chapters are One-Pot Favorites and Original Slow Cookers. Those recipes use a Dutch oven as the workhorse that it is meant to be. Our family especially enjoys the mustard-spiked beef stew and lasagna soup. I appreciate the helpful hints, substitutions and suggested side servings that accompany the recipesâtheyâve come in handy.Thereâs enough diversity in this cookbook to satisfy everyoneâs palate, and most recipes are easy to make with readily available ingredients. Best of all, Dutch Oven Dinners is very family friendlyâfive stars just for that.

Title: I Bought A Dutch Oven To Go With This Book
Review: Shortly after getting this book, I broke down and ordered myself an oversized Dutch oven to play with. With being indoors more these days and cooking more family meals instead of getting to go out to eat, I thought trying my hand at something other than chili would be a nice change. Janet A. Zimmerman, the author, gave me a colorful and inspiring cookbook for favorite meals made in your favorite pot. Note this cookbook is not image heavy. As with most cookbooks, you get an introduction and how to make the most of your Dutch oven with a short overview on boiling, simmering, steaming, frying, braising, baking, and roasting. You can do just about anything in one of these pots. Zimmerman suggests a few useful tools, the need to have in order to cook, well, anything, like tongues and potholders, and the nice to have list of the lavish extras like frying gear or fat separators. Of course, we have pantry basics to have on hand and Dutch oven care instructions.Recipes are marked with the standard dietary labels (gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian, dairy-free, etc.) when applicable. There are helpful tips and suggestions on how to go about scaling your recipes from the standard 4-servings the book is mostly tailored towards. Then weâre on to the vast variety of mouth watering meals. Prep and cook time are broken down in to âactive timeâ and âtotal timeâ which I find a hint confusing. Youâre given the usual little bio on each meal, ingredients, instructions, the aforementioned dietary labels, along with easy substitutions (if any), serving suggestions, and actual nutritional information per serving (estimated calories, carbs, fiber, protein, etc.). Iâm pleased to see the author included this as I personally chart my macros regularly. The aforementioned mouthwatering meals include things like sloppy joes, mussels in a wine sauce, easy butter chicken, Thai mixed vegetables, chicken and white bean chili, short ribs, stuffed peppers, various pasta dishes, soups, stews, roasts, sides, etc. There is something for everyone. So far, everything appears to be well-written, easy to follow. I canât wait to get further into this book and make dishes Iâve never attempted before. Inspiring cookbook.

Title: You don't need Dutch Oven to boil past..
Review: Yes, that is right - most of dinners envolving noodles start with "bring 4 cups of water to boil your pasta".. it is not kind of to expect nither from this, almost $30 book nor from the Dutch Oven..
