These words of Cicely Berry, the voice director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, speak to anyone who needs to speak his or her piece – in any arena, at sales meetings or religious revivals. Berry's book will insure that the speaker and the text gets heard – accurately and with true emotional range. Never again will one be accused of simply “reading a prepared statement.” Berry's exercises to develop relaxation, breathing and muscular control will literally help everyone breathe easier when confronting the printed page.

Title: Essential reading for the acting of Shakespeare
Review: Cicely Berry, Voice Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, has written an exemplary book for actors, particularly those performing works by Shakespeare. She somehow finds the words that express the elusive feel for Shakespeare's language that any good Shakespearean actor must develop. Her descriptions, examples and exercises provide a comprehensive training program for actors that recreates the work she has done with some of the world's great Shakespearean actors of our day: an essential book.

Title: I LOVE Cicely Berry - with good reason
Review: I LOVE Cicely Berry - with good reason. I know Cis personally and she taught me to use my voice back in 1962. She is the empress of voice and Shakespeare coaching and is still very active with the RSC in Stratford. We met up a couple of weeks ago to discuss her training over the years and she shared a few nuggets from her wonderful books in conversation. Her books are all awesome. Buy and learn - whether as an actor, a business person or even in your personal relationships. Buy and learn from the best. And yes, I am a voice coach!

Review: This book teaches you to pay attention to every aspect of the text without making it didactic, monotonous and boring. After you read "The Actor and the Text" every text you work on becomes richer, deeper, and actually starts being 100% essential in this very play, on this very stage, this very moment. And anyway â it's a very enjoyable reading.

Review: Useful for any actor. Talks a lot about the language and the sound and vowels when looking at a text. Focuses a lot on Shakespeare, quite lengthy but a good read
