Title: Yep, Indiana once had three NBA teams!!!!
Review: Yes, I am a fan of pro basketball. I grew up in Indiana playing the sport. I was intrigued when the NBA started up because few people know that early on that league had three teams in Indiana. They were the Ft. Wayne Pistons, the Anderson Packers and the Indianapolis Olympians. I saw several games in these cities and have enjoyed watching the NBA grow over the years. The Packers played in a high school gym I played in and I also played in Butler/Hinkle fieldhouse where the Olympians played. In fact, I now remember I played three high school games at the Ft. Wayne Memorial Coliseum where the Pistons played before moving to Detroit. Exciting times in the basketball state. My favorite player in the NBA was Paul Arizin. He led the league in scoring. While traveling from my home town of Marion, IN to Ft. Wayne to play in a high school game there was a bad accident. Some tall guys got out of a bus and we began talking to them. I asked if they played basketball and one stuck out his hand and said to me. "Hi, I'm Paul Arizin of the Philadelphia Warriors." He gave me some tips on how to shoot a jump shot. I later wrote a book titled Growing UP in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited and sent a copy to Paul. He sent me a signed basketball card and a nice note and told me he remembered the accident. He died in his sleep a few years ago at age 77. I firmly believe the NBA planted a good base for pro basketball to take hold in Indiana and it was fun watching it begin in 1949-50. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the early years of the NBA. It is done almost in its entirety through interviews with famous players. Well worth your time.Norman Jones, Ed. D. author of Growing UP in Indiana:The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited.

Title: Greatest quotes ever in a basketball book!
Review: Maybe the greatest basketball book of all-time. And what’s amazing is that it was written mainly on using just quotes from NBA players of the past. This type of book has tremendous insight on the game throughout the history of the league beginning in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and through the 1990s. 🏀 Also checkout the book NBA’s 50 Greatest Basketball Players of All-time. This book is among the best statistical and factual references available.

Title: Another Good Terry Pluto Book
Review: I have to agree with Michael Erisman's review of this book - well written and informative but it just doesn't have the "ooomph" of Pluto's other basketball book, "Loose Balls." About halfway through the book, it feels like it starts to follow more of a season to season format, instead of continuing to concentrate on the personalities and the players in the league, and the league itself - most everyone knows the Celtics dominated the league during this period and it gets just a lil tedious to be reading about them all the time - a more comprehensive review of the league would have been nice.

Title: Every bit as good as Loose Balls
Review: As with Loose Balls, Pluto's brilliant look at the ABA, Pluto serves up fascinating interviews with NBA players, coaches and owners. Sometimes they're discussing aspects of their careers and at others they're offering insights into others' careers, but it's always mesmerizing. Pluto does a great job of culling interesting information and editing it into chunks that serve up lots of fun without the fat. Some insights are outright startling, others humorous. An easy page-turner: this is the kind of book you can read nonstop on a plane flight or pick up and put down whenever you're in the mood for fast, fun reading.

Title:
Review: One of the most enthralling books about the history of the NBA. I love how the author, Terry Pluto, brilliantly uses the voices of players, coaches, journalists, referees, etc. to build the stories. Or "Tales", if you will. It really makes the book feel alive. Along with Loose Balls (on the ABA), I feel like this book is a must-read for everyone with the slightest interest in the NBA.
