Why is the available storage capacity displayed on the computer always lower than the actual capacity?

It is due to a unit capacity conversion issue. Manufacturers of Flash (memory) drive devices generally calculate in 1000 as the binary, i.e. 1KB=1000Bytes, 1GB=1000M, and operating systems calculate capacity in 1024 as the binary, i.e. 1KB=1024Bytes, 1GB=1024M, and the reported capacity after formatting will be less than the nominal capacity. System files also take up a small amount of space under different operating systems.

Review: I've been in IT for 21 years now and use flash drives on a daily basis. I have 10 on my desk at work with various applications, drives, tools, and such. I bought these as I have a project I am working on and need multiple flash drives to test out various software applications. I found that 3 of the flash drives did not work and the others are not 64GB, they read as 21GB and no way to fix them and increase the volume. I would give it a lower score then 1 star but there were a couple cool colors and lanyards. DO NOT waste your money on these flash drives.

Review: I wanted to rate it 4 star, but can't really fault it with its price. They are cheaply made, but what do you expect for $3-4 for a 64G thumb drive? I bought $3 32G thumb drives a few years back, now tech has increased so $3 can get you double the capacity which is about right. This one is however a bit faster than the 32G I bought years back.when buying cheaper usbs like these, the chance of copying a corrupted file is real, but it Very, very low. I used the 32G ones for years and never had one problem, and the chances are, these 64Gs will not have any problems down the road, either. You can always get a few bad ones in a patch or a bad patch, winning a small lotte, but stick with higher review ones, you should be fine.In store you can spend this much money for just one thumb drive. Yes, getting a bad one in store is virtually none and its speed is always going to be fast with its high price, but I just have to say I can get 9 more with that price. So with this price, I really can't fault it for being slow or even one or two of them breaks down soon, and the fact that with 99% chance that I will be able to use these sticks for years without problem, I can only give it 5 star ( since no 4.7).

Review: I had a number of digital files (family videos) I wanted to share with my family and needed an inexpensive but dependable way to transfer them. Since many computers now don't have an optical drive, DVDs aren't as useful as they used to be, but all computers have USB ports.So I bought these. The last time I bought a batch of inexpensive flashdrives, several of them wouldn't work (luckily the seller was happy to replace the malfunctioning ones), but that didn't happen with these - I checked them all out upon arrival and they were all 100% good to go.They were perfect for what I needed them for, and I have no reservations recommending these to others.

Review: Had these a few days, as needed to separate different projects I am working on. I've always used USB's in this way and when my projects are complete, I save to external hard drives. I opened the pack, all nice and bonny. I downloaded to various USBs' and labelled with matching coloured labels. Feeling very pleased with my organisation, I proceeded to work and ensured everything was saved before I then left to make a drink. However, on my return, I was unable to see anything. I contacted my son, a forensic computer guy who took over my laptop, did a few tests and told me that there was no partitioning on the pens and everything was gone. My partner, also a technician, opened the extremely hot USB stick to see that it had indeed overheated.By both technicians, I was told to immediately remove everything I'd downloaded to the other sticks because they are cheaply made and of very poor quality. You get what you pay for and in my case: "Pay for what you get". Believe me, I'm not paying the price!! I have lost 11 months of work and organisation, some precious photographs, reports and documents that I've been working on, that I'll never get back. I'm absolutely furious and upset. I should receive compensation for what these sticks have cost me in real terms.I would strongly advise to use good quality USBs from a reputable company. The 2 computer engineers in my life have told me I shouldn't store anything on a pen anyway and that I should be paying extra for cloud storage, which I now am. I also have several external hard drives, as a back up.
