Includes the story "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" now an ACADEMY AWARD®-winning short film from Wes Anderson on Netflix

A collection of the best short stories from a writer with "an ingenious imagination, a fascination with odd and ordinary detail, and a lust for its thorough exploitation" (The New York Times Book Review).

If Stephen King could write with murderous concision, he might have come up with "The Landlady," the story of a boarding house with an oddly talented proprietress and a small but permanent clientele. If Clive Barker had a sense of humor, he might have written "Pig," a brutally funny look at cooks and vegetarianism. And a more bloodthirsty Jorge Luis Borges might have imagined the fanatical little gambler in "Man From the South," who does his betting with a hammer, nails, and a butcher knife.

But all these stories in this volume were written by Roald Dahl, whose genius for the horrific and grotesque is unparalleled and entirely his own.

Title: There is always a twist
Review: Dahl's sense of humor is twisted and delicious! A must read, imho.

Title: love this
Review: I've had three copies of this book. I buy it, I loan it out, I don't get it back. There seems to be a pattern there which I am missing. Of all the Dahl short story collections I think this one is the best. Going to go buy my 4th copy and not show anyone.

Title: Favorite collection of short stories, perfect for travel, intelligent and perfect
Review: This is the one book that I take with me when I travel because every story feels new each time I read it. My copy is tattered with love, and I give out a new copy with careful consideration. His stories are not for everyone...they're dark but without the lighter patina of his children's novels (e.g. BFG, The Witches). Every story has a twist...rarely do I know what is going to happen in the first few pages. Highly recommend!

Title: Will keep this book for years.
Review: Excellent collection from a master writer of the creepy and funny. I liked his "Champion of the World" when I was young, and it's in this collection. "Pig" convinced me to be a vegetarian at the age of sixteen. He wasn't just good at kids' stories, he was great at adult writing also.

Title: The wonderful world of a storey teller.
Review: Mr Dahl is one of the best story tellers to come along. Just when you think you know the outcome he never fails to surprise you.

Title: Great surprise
Review: I had only read Mr. Dahl's children's books, and was pleasantly surprised at the depth of his adult works. This collection was first recommended to me by my best friend, and I had to buy my own copy after reading hers!

Title: For adults or kids, Roald Dahl rocks!
Review: Have loved his kids' books ever since I was a child and am now reading them with my daughter. This one is for grownups only, though! I described this collection to friends by saying "Roald Dahl is the British Flannery O'Connor." If you like dark, funny (sometimes truly twisted) short stories where, in surprise endings, those who scheme and plot always get theirs, you will truly enjoy this book.

Review: Absolutely thrilling! I'm getting the urge to read more and more Dahl's unconventional stories, throughly packed with quirky human habits, though it's sometimes causing a bit of a nervous heart, a tickling in the brain and a rather shallow breathing....Only unpleasant little fact of this book in particular is the very soft cover, which feels like it won't last long. (schlabberig...)

Review: Roald Dahl is a wonderful, wonderful writer. And he is one of the rare authors that can actually make me laugh out loud by just reading his stories. If you want to just enjoy reading and feel good remembering what you have read, then I highly recommend Roald Dahl.
