Title: Great book for the beginner and cook
Review: I'm a mother of four and I've been cooking since my early 20s. I bought this book to learn about more healthier meals to cook for my family, I'm not a creative cook. This book is very informative, I love it! The book goes into detail about the kitchen, the utilities you use to cook...her advice on what she thinks is the best and what you really don't need. She goes as simple as to how to cook a boiled egg and I love how she gives variety on all her recipes so you can use what you have instead of going out to buy this or that ingredient. Love it!

Title: The perfect follow up to Naturally Thin
Review: I read this immediately following my second read of Naturally Thin and LOVED it. It has some really great tips to apply to cooking while sticking to the ten rules. Even if you are not following the Naturally Thin rules, there are some great basics in the book that include what types of cooking utensils/pots you should use, what utensils are unnecessary, and what pantry basics to keep on hand at all times. It is not exactly a cookbook, its more of a book with a few recipes inside. Probably not the best read for those who are very serious about cooking and using extremely fancy tools. There are some delicious recipes in this book and also some timeless tips that will help any cook.

Title: No nutritional information...focuses on teaching cooking skills
Review: Kudos to her for her effort in this project. You can tell from reading this that she's very passionate about her eating healthy goals and the book is written in a warm and no-nonsense style.I regret to say, however, that this is not what I expected from the book. I expected more of a tutorial about recipe conversions to healthier recipes based on her premise that you have to look at eating as a "bank account" and judge your meals accordingly. I expected her to give some education about how to evaluate your meal choices to "balance your bank account". Instead she spends the first 80 pages teaching you how to cook. Ok, but that wasn't my goal...and not what I expected.I was very surprised to see that there is NO nutritional information in any of the recipes. ???? If you are trying to stick to a certain calorie goal per day to "balance your bank account" I'm not sure it is helpful to not even know the caloric impact of any of these recipes. It would have only taken minutes to put that information in there versus me making the calculation. I do realize that all of her recipes are healthy, but sadly, I needed more specifics. She did a great job of showing the readers how to take the existing recipes and change them up based on what you have on hand, etc.

Title: Simple Ingredients, Healthy Food
Review: Positives:I am an experienced cook who loves cookbooks, and my style of cooking has evolved to be much like Bethenny's. I love her approach to cooking, and even this experienced cook learned a few (very useful) things! I loved the desserts especially, and do wish there had been a few more.I think it would be a great book for anyone who is afraid of cooking. She does a fantastic job, in an entertaining way, of taking the fear out of all of it, and explaining, in everyday simple ways, some techniques and tools to give confidence to anyone who hates to cook, or is just learning. She also doesn't use a bunch of hard to find ingredients, which frankly, was very nice. It's just not that kind of book. It's very practical and sensible, and I have enough cookbooks with exotic ingredients. This is more everyday cooking, simple but good (or great.)The price is outstanding!I read it cover-to-cover in two evenings, and really loved it. The end includes a couple of complicated recipes from chef-friends of hers, and frankly, that was a good way to end this book. It showed, quite clearly, why some people are too intimidated to cook. The complicated ingredients, available in some big cities, but not in the boondocks, the many, many steps involved in each. Now, for someone like me, those recipes might sound like fun. For MANY, they illustrate the joy of simplicity Bethenny gave you in the previous 250 + pages. They really make you appreciate her previous recipes.Negatives:The paper and especially the light print of the recipes. Horrible! No photos. No calorie or nutritional information. I know it fits with her philosophy, but to me, it's a problem. Diabetics, or people who would like to combine Bethenny's ideas with their regular diet plans will be frustrated.-----Don't buy it if all you are looking for is complicated recipes.Do buy it if you like the idea of making most recipes healthier, and like the idea of "substitute this for that" suggestions which increases the number of recipes in the book. Also, a quick tip, you can make your own oat flour by processing Quaker Oats in your food processor or blender, save money and time searching for a healthier alternative to white flour that way.DO buy it for your college bound kid who only knows how to make popcorn and hamburger helper. It's a really nice book, and I am glad I bought it. I will be giving a copy to a God Daughter who is on her way to med school. She will LOVE it, and it's perfect for a busy person who wants to eat well. She loses a star for the negatives above, but it would have been a 5 star review.

Review: I recently purchase the skinny girl dish by Bethenny Frankel and found the low calories recipes very flavourful and the substitute options are extremely helpful to learn how to make every day cooking into low calorie options.

Review: In this book, Bethenny recaps the rules introduced in her book, Naturally Thin, and provides some more recipes that are healthy and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the cookies section (cookies in a diet book, amazing!) and the soups as I'd never made soups before and never realised how easy it was. I never even knew I'd like a chickpea and lentil soup. There is a wide range of recipes from posh dinners to snacks for in front of the telly. She also suggests how to adjust the recipes, to include what's in your cupboard or to vary a favourite dish, which is very handy and makes the recipes much more versatile than you would find in your average cookbook. I would recommend this to everyone particularly if you are trying to eat more healthy but find most "diet" food bland and boring.
