Title: Their UK hits from 1987 to 1994
Review: Deacon Blue comprises six musicians, with Ricky Ross as the main singer and songwriter. Lorraine McIntosh (Ricky's wife) sings Cover from the sky, while also providing excellent vocal support to Ricky as required on the other tracks. James Prime, Dougie Vipond, Ewen Vernal and Graeme Kelling completed the original line-up.Ricky Ross wrote all the songs, except for their EP of Burt Bacharach covers. This EP was more successful in the UK than any of their original singles, of which only Real gone kid made the top 10. Deacon Blue did much better in the album charts, so the public clearly loved their music anyway. I also enjoy listening to their music. This collection contains all the essentials, although I'd like to hear their other covers of Bacharach / David songs someday.

Title: Great start for the non- Deacon Blue listener
Review: I remember buying this CD when i first saw it as an import years ago. And as far as best ofs go this one of Deacon Blue is one of thee best. From 'Dignity' all the way through till 'Still in the Mood' there's no filler whatsoever. Ricky Ross and company have yet to put out a sub-par cd. Have all their CDs from Raintown up to A New House but this is still a great intro to this great Scottish Band. Just wish they would tour the U.S. once in a while!?

Title: The Other Prefab Sprout
Review: Terrific Scottish Pop that draws similarites to The Big Dish and Prefab Sprout, especially with backup singer Lorraine McIntosh in the mix."Queen of the New Year" could be the best Prefab Sprout song that band never recorded. "Chocolate Girl" is another winner as is "Twist and Shout" (my personal favorite) and the lively "Real Gone Kid" and "Fergus Sings the Blues".Really, one of the better greatest hits releases that deserves to be heard from start to finish.

Title: great!
Review: Love this album! I'd almost forgotten how many great songs Deacon Blue had released. Would have got 5 stars if it had shipped a teeny bit quicker.

Title: It's a crime that these guys are unknown in the USA
Review: But you can find out for yourself how good they are thanks to this CD.Deacon Blue is a blend of influences and sounds from the late 80s. Their songs are original, but you'll be asking yourself, "why is this familiar?" The reason is this: you'll hear traces of Van Morrison, John Waite, Bill Medley, Bruce Springsteen, even U2. Much of it has a pinch of R&B to it as well. Ricky Ross, the lead singer, has a powerful, expressive voice - add to that the powerful, almost etheral harmonizing of Lorraine MacIntosh (sp), and you have yourself quite a package.

Title: If you can only have one Deacon Blue album, make it this one
Review: Whenever I'm in the UK (or have a friend going over), the order of the day is always to search every music store for Deacon Blue. The latest effort turned up _Our Town_ and it's been in my CD player, computer, and Discman practically ever since. I sing "Loaded" in the shower. I hum "Chocolate Girl" on the bus. Lorriane MacIntosh's vocals on "Cover From the Sky" are hauntingly beautiful and Ricky Ross' lyrics throughout the compilation evoke both emotion and image like no other.Unlike many bands, Deacon Blue doesn't seem to have fallen into the trap of Subject; repeating topic from song to song. _Our Town_, as a sampling of their work from _Raintown_ onwards, speaks to all the traditional things: Love, Regret, and Hope; then takes it down a notch to address life on a more personal level with old favorites such as "Dignity" and "Twist and Shout" (not a Beatles cover)--both glimpses into one man's world. It's rare, I think, to find music that truly suits every mood. I have always found this to be the case with Deacon Blue. This collection of their work is the epitome of what "greatest hits" anthologies should be about: spanning the career, demonstrating diversity, telling stories.

Title: A great discovery!
Review: I heard the song "Dignity"while listening to Manx Radio on-line and asked a friend in the UK if he knew who the band was. He gave me a list of CDs to check out, a bit of history on the band and I decided to buy "Our Town". If it were vinyl I would have worn it out by now!

Review: I was never their greatest fan when they were around, I was more into AC/DC and rock at the time but I have mellowed with age. I bought this on a whim over Christmas and downloaded it to Amazon player for the car which is a nice featue. I received the CD a day or two later and will rip that to a higher quality lossless format for my archive but the download format is good enough for casual listening when out and about.I recognised some of the songs from their name when buying but when playing I found I know more of them than I thought I did. Years spent in a garage with the radio on in the background must have ingrained more of their melodies on me than I thought but it's no bad thing. Deacon blue are a good band, a nice change from todays mostly screaming (sing it loud - sing it proud) vocalists they are able to sing softly and still convince me they are singing from the heart. The lyrics are understandable and just as relevant today as they were back in the day, even my 20 odd year old daughter asked who they where so they have appeal across the generations. The girl that sings with them (I had to look her name up - Lorraine Mcintosh) is superb. Ricky Ross's voice is quite distinctive and you can listen to him for a while without getting tired of hearing him, but Lorraine's voice is very good as both in harmony and on it's own. I would love to have heard more of her on her own. I don't like the way many of the female singers today seem to believe that 110% is the way to sing, singers should be comfortable singing the song because it is within their vocal range, not because vain popping shows ultra commitment and taking it to the next level or making it their own or doing Liverpool proud is what makes them a celeb.Sorry got carried away there.....Back to the album, it is a great collection of Deacon Blues hits and some tracks that are quite good that were not hits. It is a good slice of nostalgia for anyone who was around when they were in the charts but also a good experience to broaden musical taste for anyone who wasn't. I would recommend the album to those who are not die hard fans and want everything they ever done (like myself), they just want a good album that is melodic and easy to listen to.
