In the fall of 1994, Erich Baumeister (13), was playing in a wooded area of his family’s estate, when he stumbled across a partially buried human skeleton. He presented the disturbing finding to his mother, Julie, who inquired about the skull to her husband, Herb. He told her that the skeleton belonged to his late father, an anaesthesiologist, who used it for his research. He said he didn’t know what to do with it, so he buried it in the back garden. Julie believed him.
Over the course of eighteen-months, Julie became increasingly concerned and frightened by her husband's mood swings and erratic behaviour. In June 1996, whilst Herb was on vacation, she granted police full access to her family’s eighteen-acre home. Within ten days of the search, investigators uncovered the remains of eleven bodies. Once news of the findings at Fox Hollow Farm was broadcast, Herb disappeared.
Herb Baumeister would later be alleged to have killed at least nine more men along the Interstate 70 between Indiana and Ohio, and coined the “I-70 Strangler”. It is entirely possible that he was one of the most prolific serial killers in history.
You Think You Know Me is a chilling account of Herb Baumeister and one of the most mysterious true crime stories in American history. Ryan Green’s riveting narrative draws the reader into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller.
CAUTION: This book contains descriptive accounts of torture, abuse and violence. If you are especially sensitive to this material, it might be advisable not to read any further.

Title: Another disturbing train wreck
Review: As with any Ryan Green novel, the disturbing details read like a train wreck. I can't stop looking, or in this case reading, no matter how much I want to just walk away. I was completely unfamiliar with Herb Baumeister before reading this book. His depravity made my skin crawl, and that was just from the details that the author DID include. I can only imagine the horror that was left out when a scene cut off. If you like true crime books and can stomach the graphic details, I highly recommend Ryan Green's books. The details are graphic, but they are not gruesome just for the shock value. Victims are treated respectfully which I appreciate. This one, as do many such crimes, ends a bit unsatisfying. Whether justice was served or not is debatable. It fascinates me to no end how many serial killers there are in this world.

Title: Good Crime Story
Review: This book was very well written and was a compelling read. The story is well represented and the writing is good. However the story truly lacks the details available to be a great, stand alone, nonfiction book. While the writing and work that went into the story were great, the story itself does not make for more than a mediocre book. However I would recommend this book and read more by Ryan Green.

Title: Well told story
Review: Ryan has a way of telling the story which I thought engaging and quite gripping. The way he described Herb and the bird. I think I understand more of what the serial killer enjoys about killing besides the fact he is a psychopath. The only thing I was distracted by in reading, was the use of the word "that." I kept mentally taking the word out to tighten it up for my own reading.

Title: Decent.
Review: Decently written. I have two issues with it: 1. The book heavily relies on speculative dialogue and descriptions of events that the author had to make up as no one else was there or ever recounted to anyone else what happened, and 2. It portrayed Indianapolis as being a city full of disdain for gays. I grew up there, during the era these killings took place, and the city was nowhere near as prejudiced or uncaring towards gays as the author portrays it. To hear the author tell it, youâd think Indianapolis used to have lynch mobs routinely rounding up gays and hanging them.

Title: too close to home
Review: Ex-husband grew up in neighborhood behind the house. He told me Baumeister had lived there and killed men around the pool. There is so much more to the story than I had heard. Well written and a quick, easy read. Interestingly enough, cadaver dogs were out looking for bones again in 2023.
