SADDLE WITH HIS OWN EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE A LAWYER GOES ON A TERRIFYING QUEST TO CATCH THE GILGO BEACH/LONG ISLAND SERIAL KILLER
#1 BESTSELLER IN CRIME FICTION
INSPIRED BY TRUE CRIMES
FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE #1 BESTSELLER THE GOOD LAWYER
A NEW NOVEL IN THE GOOD LAWYER SERIES
-A serial killer is littering the south shore beach of Long Island with the bones of his female victims stuffed into burlap bags. Nick Mannino, The Good Lawyer and former South Bronx Legal Aid Attorney born into a mobster dominated family, is a complex and compelling character--his constant court battles nothing more than a futile effort to hide and deny a haunting truth about himself and worse--a sinewy bloodline marred by unspeakable crimes. Then this brutal serial killer turns on him, and worse, his family.
As much a thriller as it is a mystery, with an ending as riveting as that in Silence of the Lambs, The Criminal Lawyer is also a love story, a novel of family secrets, and crimes beyond forgiveness.

Title: Great read.
Review: Having grown up in up on LI, I loved this mystery. So many twists places I’ve known and seen, the twists and turns never stop. Love it.

Title: Decent read, but no criminal law content as the title would suggest.
Review: I had read "The Good Lawyer" back in 2012 and thought I had reviewed it. But, I could not locate the review for purposes of comparing it with this book. This book was a good read, except I thought the ending was a bit maudlin. Also, having finished it I can't figure why the writer titled the book as he did. It really had nothing to do with the the practice of law. There was no courtroom drama. There was no reason why the chief protagonist had to be a criminal defense lawyer. He could have easily come from any other profession/occupation in order to carry the story. I read a lot of this genre, but there was nothing in it which drew me to the book.I don't re tell story lines in my reviews. What I will say is the following: The plot was decent. The story line carried me from page one to page last. The rising action was very good, in fact got thrilling toward anti climax. The falling action, however, was only adequate (due largely to the ending mentioned above). Resolution, therefore, was, again, adequate to the story line and could have been largely abbreviated, if not, down right skipped. My point being, it seemed to me that the writer didn't know when, or how to finish the story and so kept on writing, I suppose, hoping it would end itself.Benigno is a good story teller and I will read his next book. But unlike his first book, this one was devoid of any legal inter- action among the players in my view.

Title: Couldn't put it down
Review: I loved The Good Lawyer (first book in the series) so much that I followed the author on Facebook, in hopes to find out what he was working on and be able to get it when it comes out. When the pre-order link was posted, I bought the book. At first I was disappointed that this book was set so many years in the future from the original, but I quickly got into the story and quit comparing the two. The story is well written, compelling, disturbing, and a good read. Poetic at times, but still hard boiled. Thoughtful, but moves at a good pace. I only found two or three typos. I gave it a four because I'm not find of some of the clunky foreshadowing (what I would find out later....etc) and the way the after story seemed tacked on. None of this takes away from the actual story, though. I would still read more books by this author. It's my hope that he will fill in the missing years, especially the teaser case referred to in the beginning of the book. I'd also like to know more about Eleanor. What is in her head?

Title: Hasty effort by talented writer
Review: I looked forward to the second installment of the Good Lawyer series after such an outstanding start. The writer continues to engage the reader with empathetic characters. Nevertheless, I was disappointed in this effort.-There are numerous grammatical errors and sentences that don't make sense. A writer this talented owes it to himself to do a better job.-The plot rambles on a bit in the middle and end trying the reader's patience waiting for loose ends to come together. The pace and momentum are compromised.-The title and first installment lead the reader to expect a lawyer practicing his craft in courtroom drama. I get that readers need to trust an author to take us in unexpected directions, but changing our protagonist into an amateur detective feels misleading.I hope we can have a more finished product next time around.

Title: Great story!
Review: Thomas Begnino does it again with book #2 which I couldn’t put down. It is so refreshing to read a book where the story and prose are polished and first rate. I read his first book, The Good Lawyer, and now I’m looking forward to reading the next in this series. The Criminal Lawyer is a real honest to God thriller!
