An apocalyptic event. A simple gift box from a military father. A stunning connection between and possibly the last hope for humanity.

After America’s controversial presidential election in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, several decades of escalating civil crises have ensued. The governments of many countries have conspired to develop the ultimate solution for controlling the lives of their citizens. The new society, forged in the secret Utopia Project, provides for all of your needs without cost, promotes recreational group sex, raises offspring without parents and offers a life without stress.

When the project’s true purpose is revealed, a nightmare weapon turns the rest of the world into a mass grave of melted corpses. Inexplicably, not everyone died as planned. On the east coast of America, Sara Hyland and boyfriend Kid Carlson somehow survive. Hunted by the merciless forces of the Utopia Project, a single thread of hope is discovered in a gift box, given to Sara by her military father the night of the destruction. But is it too late to save humanity from extinction?

Title: Great serial potential
Review: This is a fast-paced character-driven novel that does not slow down until the end. It is well-written and the editing is tight. These are the high points, and they are deserved. Two minor negatives for me are characterization of the villains and the abrupt ending. Many are of the villains are either automatons or socio/psychopaths, with only one operating in the gray - and that character barely speaks for themself. To me the ending was unexpected. I knew the author was winding down, but it just seemed like the characters were in the process of acting when the story just stopped.Don’t let these negatives prevent you from reading this gripping high-concept novel - find out for yourself to see if you agree.

Title: End of world story with twists and turns.
Review: I actually enjoyed the story, even though the plot lines were easily anticipated. A few surprises, but not many. Some hot under the sheets action that seemed to me to be gratuitous. An easy ready, almost at the teen level. I read the three book series. A good book to take on a vacation trip in case of bad weather.

Title: Great Read for Rainy Days!
Review: This book is almost too realistic. It uses events we have all witnessed in today's society. The commotion and torment of COVID and the unrest about the presidency was all too familiar. The novel really takes a turn with the discovery of the Utopia Project and all of its' villainous, malicious intent. A world destroyed by the very thing that was promoted by the lie that it would create a stressless and carefree life Following the main characters journey to save the world is an experience in itself. There are some twists and turns that keep you reading. I read most of this in one sit down and cannot wait to read the next one in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a save the world kind of novel. It doesn't disappoint.

Title: Good plot but has sone issues
Review: The plot of this story is interesting and almost too real considering the current unrest worldwide, and there are some good bits of suspense sprinkled in. There’s also some action and a villainous group trying to remake the world. All of these are good things. Now for the things that bugged me and/or needed fixed. First, one of my pet peeves is stilted dialogue that has no contractions. People whose native language is English do not speak this way. The author switched from this to realistic dialogue then back again. A good editor could fix this. It happened in descriptions too, but was glaring in dialogue. The lengthy flashbacks didn’t quite work either. I kept feeling like they could have been shortened and worked into the various characters’ thoughts instead of being full blown flashbacks. These sections tended to slow the ace of the book.Last, I really wanted the characters to be more fleshed out. They were a bit too 2-dimensional.This was an interesting plot and I did read to the end. The ending could have been done a bit better. Yes, I know it’s a series, but even with a series there needs to be a sense of conclusion of one part and a teaser for the next book. The ending fell a bit flat. There’s a lot of potential here, let’s hope the author finds his stride with book two.

The characters are complex and PHENOMENAL and the plot is chilling!!!! Super realistic and yet on the verge of being so surreal it makes you hold your breath throughout!!!! Title: Enjoyable, edge of your seat novel
Review: Dering made an enjoyable, edge of your seat novel that I could barely put down. While reading you’ll find yourself anxious yet excited to see how the story unfolds. You got sucked into the action, and the world the characters were living in. I sincerely hope that this book is more recognized in the future. That being said, the book did have negative aspects as well. While the characters were well written, information about their past came out at the most inconvenient and awkward times. Besides all this, the rest of the book was fantastic. Out of five I would rate this a four. It was a wonderful book which I thoroughly enjoyed, and think others would too. The best audience would be sixteen and up age group. The sexual content is pretty mildly explained, so the only reason I would say sixteen and up is because of the gore that is explained in detail. All in all, The Utopia Project is a wonderful book, that I’m glad to have read.

Title: Just what a science fiction thriller should be...
Review: New author, Billy Dering takes us on an ambitious and fun science fiction action romp that actually belies the book's dark dystopian undertones previously found in the writings of Orwell and Huxley. But where books like 1984 and Brave New World start by immersing us in worlds where the populations have already been socially engineered, Dering starts us off on the eve of a terrible event that will change everything. We meet a group of young adults who inexplicably survive the hellish night only to discover what the powers-that-be have planned for our future. As the survivors fight for their lives, we're treated to action, suspense, intrigue, a bit of romance, and a lot of satisfying sci-fi storytelling. I found it to be an easy read, and enjoyed the amount of detail with which the author describes everything. He clearly poured a lot of work into his research. Looking forward to the next installment.

Review: What if a relative handful of people decided to rewire humankind into a more malleable and obedient whole and believed that to do so, they needed to erase the existence of the current inhabitants in order to start over. This was a story I couldn’t put down as I followed Kid, Jess, Heidi, Maria and Sara as the only survivors in their race to survive.
