Title: Very clear and well written - opens the mind for AI opportunities
Review: The book is excellent if you have some experience, but you would not call yourself an AI expert. The book describes understandably what today's AI is all about and where the opportunities are. You will not lay the book down without a list of action items you will address in your personal and professional life.

Title: Well done!
Review: As an editor I recognize how the prominent emergence of AI over the past year has altered the world of writing. It’s fascinating to consider how AI impacts academia — and with two daughters in private New England universities it’s been interesting to watch the professors adapt and implement strategies and policies to limit the use of AI for students. This book explains the evolution while also shining a spotlight on the numerous realms AI influences that I hadn’t previously considered. It’s quite ubiquitous and it’s important to carefully consider all aspects, and enact policies while simultaneously acknowledging the previously unheard of opportunities AI presents. Hence the reason I read this book. It’s academic for sure, but not only is it a worthwhile read, I feel it’s imperative for us to learn as much as we can about AI to better understand what’s happening now and what's coming.

Title: AI: the good, the bad, and the scary
Review: Welcome to AI by David Shrier provides a past, present, and future perspective on artificial intelligence: the good, the bad, and the scary.Everyone is talking about AI. For decades I’ve paid attention to how artificial intelligence could impact my work, first as a software engineer and then as a business strategist. And yet, AI is changing so rapidly that even I at times struggle to get my arms around what it is and how it will change our work and our lives. Welcome to AI seeks to step into this gap.The book is divided into three parts, roughly chronological with the first part more backwards looking, the second focused on decisions we can make today, and the third part focused on different potential futures. Not surprisingly, given the challenges of predicting the future in a rapidly changing discipline, the first part is the strongest and most helpful.Overall the book is very readable. And yet at times it was very hard to read. The odd combination of the author’s hard criticisms of institutions he doesn’t like, over-confidence in institutions he does, alarmist warnings of coming doom, and rose-colored confidence in humanity and technology to perfectly do what is right challenges his credibility, at least in this reviewer’s eyes. There were several times I just wanted to put the book down without finishing it.Despite those challenges, the book still has its merits. For those with limited understanding of the technology, Welcome to AI, provides a decent introduction. Perhaps more importantly, the strong positions that the author takes on important topics force readers to think about what each of us believe on those topics. The more the book rests on the author’s shaky future predictions (the AI future at this point in time is just too unpredictable), the harder it is to trust the author’s conclusions, but even his flawed perspectives help us realize how important it is to have a perspective. If you are worried that your lack of informed perspective on artificial intelligence has kept you on the periphery of important discussions and decisions, Welcome to AI may be a great place to start to change that.

Title: Great Introduction to AI Today
Review: Welcome to AI: A Human Guide to Artificial Intelligence by David L. Shrier is a quick introduction to the world of artificial intelligence and its place in the modern organization. As a social scientist in organizational communication and artificial intelligence, I was really excited to read this book. The book itself is a really good introduction for people who are looking to understand the current role that generative AI plays in the modern workplace and what role AI in general may play in the business of tomorrow.I think Shrier takes a balanced approach to the topic, but I’m sure some of the AI doomers will see his depiction of the positive and negative aspects of AI as being a bit rosy.If you are looking for a book on how to really use AI in the nitty gritty of machine learning and training AI models as a computer scientist, this book is not for you.I want to thank the publisher for the opportunity to review this book prior to publication. Although I am thankful for the opportunity, the review is completely mine. I also ended up buying the audio book, which I found enjoyable.

Title: Stevo's Business Book of the Week
Review: As Stevo’s Novel Ideas, I am a long-time book reviewer, member of the media, an Influencer, and a content provider. I received this book as a review copy from either the author, the publisher or a publicist. I have not been compensated for this recommendation. I have selected it as Stevo's Business Book of the Week for the week of 3/10, as it stands heads above other recently published books on this topic.

Title: The Book Title is misleading.
Review: The book leans too heavily on the author's personal experiences and perspectives. Despite the title suggesting "A Human Guide to AI," the content focuses more on speculative predictions than providing a practical guide. While the author's credibility in the field is unquestionable, the book often reads like an extended résumé filled with personal opinions rather than informative content. The inclusion of political commentary feels out of place and unnecessary. The title is misleading, as the book isn't a proper guide. I was hoping for an accessible breakdown of the inner workings of various AI technologies, but instead, I found the book lacking in substance and practical insights.
