This collection of hugely popular and critically acclaimed photos celebrates New York City’s unique history and culture—from long-disappeared icons to still-thriving favorite haunts.
For decades, husband-and-wife photography duo James and Karla Murray have been on a mission to document and preserve on film the various small shops of New York City—many of which are quickly disappearing—and a culture of authenticity that is hanging by just a thread. Featuring glorious new reproductions of images from their past books as well as never-before published photos, this elegiac volume will delight the Murrays’ multitude of fans, as well as anyone interested in the charm and history of small urban retail.
Large in format and filled with color and affectionate detail, the book includes an introduction by the Murrays explaining the genesis of their lifelong project and why they love to photograph store fronts. Chapters are organized by each of the city’s five boroughs and include descriptions and maps. Most of the store fronts are featured in generous single-page images with captions listing location, neighborhood, and year the photo was taken.
Filled with diversity and character, these images honor destinations lost to rising rents and changing demographics. Together they comprise both a guidebook and a love letter to a city that never sleeps, and is always evolving.

Title: A revolutionary landmark in New York arcutectural photography.
Review: James T. & Karla L. Murray's "Store Front NYC" does what very few Arcutectural Photography books about New York accomplishes, which is to tell the human story of the NYC Neighborhoods though photography. While many Arcutectural Photography books want to show the glossy beauty of these neighborhoods against the New York skyline and backdrop, "Store Front NYC" has its photography shoot where it's needed, down in front of the local Mom and Pop Shops, where you can see the natural beauty of lives that were lived, places that were shared and cultural identities that have prospert. Each chapter of the book is about a different section of New York with each focusing on the neighborhoods that recites within its boundries and the storefronts that make up their unique identities. Many of these store fronts are no more thanks to the ever changing times but their impact on their communities and New York as a whole is eternal, which thanks to the efforts of James and Karla Murray's work, will be shared by many generation to come.New York is the heart and soul of the American Dream and with "Store Front NYC" , we learn why, which is though the hard work, dedication and love of those who wanted to make their communities better by opening up their own business to cater and take care of their own. Which is the foundations what this country is about.

Title: The coolest photography book!
Review: I love photography, mostly black & White, but I always loved store fronts⦠especially of NYC. This book is so good. The quality and the full page and full color pictures are awesome. Even if youâre not interested in photography or store fronts in particular itâs such an interesting look at New York and its history of stores that have been around for many many years and generations serving the public from electronics to hot pastrami sandwiches to candy shops and everything in between. I got this book when it was discounted but even full price, this book is worth every cent. Big hardcover book with great bright colorful photographs. I love it.

Title: The nostalgiaâ¦
Review: I absolutely adore this book. I used to go to New York every summer and stay with my aunt and uncle in Soho. So this brought back so many memories but specifically it was that cover photo that got me. We used to stop in to that little bakery every morning to grab breakfast And the memories just flooded back. The only thing, and Iâm sure others have their own thoughts on what storefronts were missing, but Prince St., Pizza, which is located in the Soho Nolita area, was definitely missing. and it should have been included because that place has been there forever and everyone knows it. Best pizza.Other than that, this book is great, and I plan on buying one for my aunt at Christmas. Iâm sure sheâll have fun paging through it and recognizing storefronts in her neighborhood.

Title: Nostalgia
Review: Wow, this book is a treasure especially if you are a native New Yorker, I really hope there are more volumes coming ? There are so many landmark store fronts in New York. The pictures in the book brought back memories. For example the Carnegie deli, I used to work there when I was a kid. It's an excellent addition to your personal library or a coffee table book.

Title: Another wonderful book from the Murrays
Review: I also own two of their other books, and this is yet another great one; the colors and the selection are terrific. Last night I attended an event where they spoke at length and showed some photos, and it was a real treat talking to them afterwards. Their photography is great, and they're passionate about photographing the many special little shops & restaurants in NYC. Many of those places are now just a distant memory, and the Murrays have helped preserve those memories.

Review: I am a Brit but have always been fascinated by New York, itâs history and culture and having seen Karla and James's You Tube channel many times this last year or so, really enjoyed their knowledge of the smaller buildings and independent businesses that occupy them, they take you to many places tourists would probably miss. This beautifully presented book features page after page of fantastic large photos taken by them of many of these places and is a joy to look at. Iâm sure many would enjoy this book and wouldnât be disappointed if they bought or received it as a present as I did. PS Hudson is in it to lol

Thank You !

Review: Great range of businesses covered across the five NY boroughs. Beautifully photographed and well laid out within this hardback volume. The text descriptions add that extra bit of context to help convey why each photograph was chosen for the book.
