Title: A Nearly Definitive Anthology of this Duo's Record Breaking Career
Review: 2005's "The Essential Daryl Hall and John Oates" is a reissue of 2004's "Ultimate" collection.Daryl Hall and John Oates met during their clubbing days in the late 1960's when they played in different rival club bands. When those bands ended, Daryl and John decided to start working together and found that there was an overwhelming musical chemistry between them. They recorded demos (collected in 1976 on the Chelsea Records released "Past Times Behind") and a few years later, signed to Atlantic Records, where they released three albums (Whole Oats, Abandonned Luncheonette and War Babies, with the former two produced by Arif Mardin, and the latter produced by Todd Rundgren) before signing to RCA Records, for which they achieved their worldwide fame and established their record breaking career starting in 1975 and closing in 1985, where Daryl's first solo album was released in 1980, when they decided to take a two year hiatus to pursue solo options, in which Daryl would release his second solo album, before signing to Arista in 1987 and ending in 1990, while they took another hiatus from recording until 1997, in which Daryl would release his third solo album.This reissue is a great sounding compilation. This compilation compiles almost everything from their record breaking years together. In 1983, they broke the record previously held by the Everly Brothers when Say it Isn't So broke into the Top 10 for the most Top 10 hits by a duo in the rock and roll era. They also have six number one singles to their credit. This reissue is a wonderful improvement over its 2004 original as far as sound quality goes. The music featured here sounds as clean, fresh and new as they did when originally released during their successful record breaking career. They eventually became the all time top selling duo in 1983 when they broke the aforementioned Everly Brothers record.For all of their accomplishments, the duo was finally inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" in 2014 after being eligible for induction since 1997. Two years later, they received a star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame." In between these two, they were inducted into the "Songwriters Hall of Fame" in 2003.I became an avid fan after hearing Kiss on My List in 1980 on the radio and also buying the single when released. Since then, I haave managed to accumulate all of their albums on vinyl and also, on 8-Track, which I bought at a local close out store so I could have some of their music in my music library.This compilation should be in every fans library. No fan should be without this CD in their music libraries.

Review: I had a previous compilation of Hall & Oates recordings and the quality was terrible. This Essential Daryl Hall and John Oates collection was remastered in 2003 and the sound quality is great. You won't get a better recording quality than this 2 CD set.
