Title: The go-to book for pedal steel guitar...
Review: Everyone I asked about playing pedal Steele recommended getting this book. I also saw it recommended on many popular forums for pedal steel guitar playing. I like to this book included a link with password to listen to audio examples of the songs. It also included tabulature with instructions on how to read pedal steel guitar tabs. It also had a section on setting up and tuning the pedal steel guitar as it is a complex instrument, especially if you have one with many pedals and levers!

Title: Great book
Review: Music learning books are subject to what its writer deems important to know to a new learner. Having said this, in my opinion there is a lot of pictures and info on the great steel players who have successfully played professionally. I would rather jump right into the instructions and lessons of how to actually play the instrument. It is very informative, shows you the basics, and teaches you tabulation and then difficult runs to try and figure out. All in all, itâs very good and I recommend it, but it doesnât quite give me the kind of instruction my 73 mind requires. I will keep searching for a simpler, more direct approach in lesson books.

Title: Good for beginners
Review: I bought this around 8 years before I bought a pedal steel. The accompanying CD is a recording of the floppy record that the original printing of the book had. The sound quality is not good. The sound of the cd put me off the idea of playing pedal steel. This was a mistake on my part. The quality of the cd in no way reflects the sound of a modern pedal steel. The information in the book is good for beginners. In no way is this the bible of pedal steel. There is so much more to know beyond what's covered. This and the DeWitt Scott method are the only worthwhile books in print. Beggars can't be choosers!

Title: Best E9 Pedal Steel Book, hands down
Review: If you are a complete beginner at pedal steel, this is definitely the book for you. It goes from the absolute basics and mechanics of the machine (setup, tuning, changer mechanisms), to learning some pretty simple scales and songs, to learning some pretty advanced material. Several songs are built up over the course of the book into more challenging arrangements at the end. Winnie and Bill have added a lot of neat extra material as well - technical notes on how to produce good tone and harmonics, a list of famous Nashville players' copedants (likely way out of date, but a worthwhile reference), and a big laundry list of great pedal steel records to listen to for ideas and insipiration. There are only two downsides to this book. The first is that it only assumes your guitar is set up with three pedals and one knee lever, so if you have a model with a 3-4 setup, you'll be missing some instruction on those. (This isn't a huge drawback since the other three levers tend to vary pretty widely as to their function, while the E->Eb lever is pretty standard.) The second is that it doesn't really have much (only 2-3 pages and one song) arranged for learning C6 pedal steel. (This is only really a problem if you have a double neck steel - and who can afford those these days?)I came to the pedal steel knowing how to play guitar and dobro, and having read plenty of music books before it. I'd have to say this is one of the best, if not THE best, beginner/intermediate music books I've ever found. Even with the drawbacks I've listed, I'd recommend it without reservation.

Title: A well sourced book
Review: What I like about this book is that it's historical, in that it includes pictures and stories about steel players from the 50's-60's -70's and 80's. It includes tablature which is very helpful for people who don't read music ( like myself ).I have adapted the 10-string tab to work for my steel guitar which is a 6-string ( just remove the notation for the top 2 strings, and do likewise for the bottom 2 strings). For the most part, that works. Also, the book describes the use and purpose of the pedals, the knee levers, the volume pedal, and the slide, which other books don't include. Also, some of the songs included in the text are "old standards" which most people have heard sometime in their life. This is good because when the student plays the song, they know if it is correct or not, unless they are tone deaf and therefore probably won't do well playing an instrument, which is unfortunate but true.

Title: Bought new but didn't come with audio cd
Review: Where is the CD of the audio files? Or a code to access online??? I didn't buy this used, I expected the full product.Doesn't appear to be a "message sender" option so unfortunately this is now a review. Don't get this is you are going to want to hear the audio files, its not included like the description says.

Review: This book was recommended to me by an experienced player as being a good primer and long term development tool. In other words it will take you further than just the very basics. As a complete beginner on pedal steel I agree with this ( so far). There is a wealth of clearly presented information on tap here that you can really use. I just wish there was a DVD to go with this as I like to see things being done to help me learn. So I would say buy it but you might want a DVD as well.
